Why Promanade beach in Pondicherry is famous
The promenade beach is one of the most visited beaches in Pondicherry.
It is a famous stretch of beachfront of more than 1.5 kilometers extends from war memorial to the dupleix park on the goubert ave in Pondicherry.
This beach is surrounded by some vital landmarks that tells the story of bygone times. The statue of Joan of Arc, Dupleix statue, The old heritage hall, the mahatma Gandhi statue and the old light house welcomes the visitors at beach.
This beach is often crowded with people playing volleyball, walking, jogging, yoga, swimming especially in the evening. This beautiful beach is generally marked by ocean sprays, waterscapes and waves of chatters. One might witness rocks and boulders on this serene beach. Also the beach is surrounded by some of the most popular restaurants that serve authentic traditional food and famous Le Café makes it a heaven for sea food lovers. Hawkers selling local handicrafts and street food could also be found at this beach. The other side of this beach has the beautiful ancient building of information center for tourists.
The best time to visit this beach is considered either in early morning or in late evening as the traffic is stopped that allows the tourists and kids to visit around freely on the street. Also carry sunscreen and wear appropriate clothes while going to promenade beach.
The city of beaches is known for its serenity and scenic charm. Being located on the coromandel coast of bay of Bengal the best weather to visit here is from November to march. The clean and bright sand along with blue waters gives the much needed escape from hectic city life. If you are a lover of water sports the best time to be here is from October to may.
Tourists can find the guides here to show you around the area but guide is not needed if you are going only to beach. Promenade beach is located near the famous Sri Aurobindo Ashram and one can easily reach here by beach road near the M.G. road area.
Being the name itself is promenade beach the place is really just a paved sidewalk along the sea for the visitors to walk on it is not at all like a typical beach. This place is also called as mahatma Gandhi beach because of the popular statue of mahatma Gandhi situated opposite to it.
