What if Robby never left the city during his sabbatical and instead decided to be the one to take care of baby Jane Doe.
Chapter 1 ⋆˚𝜗𝜚˚⋆ I Bet on Losing Dogs
Robby ended up staying with baby Jane Doe longer than he expected he would while everyone was on the roof watching the fireworks. He rocked her looking down at her with a look of adoration, and a relieving feeling of calm washed over him while she was in his arms.
The feeling was ruined when he remembered his sabbatical, or more so what he planned to do on it. He let out a small sigh as to not wake the baby, and went to set her back down. As soon as she lost contact with him she started to let out loud and painful cries.
The sounds make his heart ache. Robby quickly picked her back up to calm her down. As soon as she was back in his arms her cries subsided, turning into small calm breaths.
He did remember Dana saying that someone was needed to watch the baby. If there were any other complications with the baby’s placement then he could watch her for just a bit longer since he was a certified foster parent.
Then he just after she was safe he could carry on with his plans and sabbatical.
He always wanted a kid which was a dream that would surprise almost everyone that he knows. He never told anyone about the dream to have one before. He was around so much lost constantly that the thought of bringing someone into the world warmed his heart.
He always put off his dream of a kid so that he could have a successful carer, and it worked for a really long time. He would rarely think about it after a while. His dream of having kids came back in full force when Collins said that she was pregnant with their baby when they were together but got rid of it.
He obviously wasn't mad nor resentful towards Collins, but sometimes he would spend time wondering what life would be like if they actually had a kid together. Obviously he knows somewhere deep down that if they did take the chance to have a kid together it wouldn't work very well. They ended their relationship due to other relationship issues. He wouldn't want a kid to be in the middle of any of that either.
He heard a soft knock on the door and heard soft footsteps coming from someone he doesn’t usually talk to, Dr. Shen.
Shen spoke softly, “Hey, I can take over watching the baby so you can go on your sabbatical now.”
The words made Robby’s hold on the baby tighten slightly as he looked as Shen. This would be his last chance to leave for a while. This is something he’s been concerned about doing form the first hour of his shift, but now he’s not so sure.
The baby gets a tight grip on Robby’s shirt and lets out an adorable sound. At that moment Robby had decided that he would just stay and watch the baby for just a little.
He spoke up, “I’ll watch her tonight.”
Shen questioned, “you sure? I mean you came here on a motorcycle man. Wouldn’t want to keep you away from your Sabbatical.”
There was a certain tone in Shen’s voice that he couldn’t quite detect what it was, but he wasn’t going to concern himself with it. All that mattered to him right now was the baby gripping on to him like her life line.
Robby said in a final tone, “I’ll just take an uber.”
Shen wasn’t even sure if Robby had any baby stuff at his house. To Shen Robby didn’t seem like the type of person to want to voluntarily be around children, but Robby seemed like he wasn’t going to budge so he was just going to mind his business.
Robby adds before Shen leaves the room, “If you can I’d like you to keep it fairly quiet.”
Shen nods and makes his leave to go grab all of the forms that Robby would need to fill in before he could take the baby to his home.
Filling the paperwork didn’t take too long since he was already a foster parent. That was another thing that might surprise some people that he knows. When he was way younger he had dated someone who was a bit older than him and was a foster parent.
They had convinced him to get certified so that they could both take care of kids together. He realized how difficult fostering kids actually is, but those times where he was taking care of kids were some of his fondest memories.
He had the baby in one hand while he was opening his house door with his other. Robby usually fostered older kids so he didn’t really have any materials for the baby besides the baby stuff given to him at the hospital.
Since he didn’t have a crib he opted for safe sleeping with the baby in his room. Robby wasn’t able to sleep a wink due to him being too scared he would hurt the baby in his sleep. He filled up the time with picking out baby names for the young one.
He murmured, “Eliana?…hm, Raaya?… Mika.”
Robby swore he saw a smile at the last name, “I can call you Mimi for short maybe?”
The baby —now unofficially named Mika— only let out soft snores in response while Robby rubbed her head gently.
He knew that he shouldn’t be naming the baby, but he couldn’t help himself. He didn’t want to keep having to call her baby Jane Doe.
She unconsciously reached to tug at his necklace in her sleep. He allowed himself to let out a slight smile in the dark of the room at Mimi.
