osiris

osiris can’t help but snort out a laugh when tohil says he should let his team know he’s eloping with him, shaking his head a little at his lover’s antics. “you’re incorrigible,” he says, but it’s said so fondly that there’s no doubt over how he feels about that. it is why he leans in, pressing his forehead briefly against tohil’s hair - the only part of his lover that’s currently not painted.

when the mayan god then admits to not wanting to say farewell to people, osiris hums and nods, understanding that tohil is just not really cut out for that. “tell me their names and i’ll inform everyone,” he says simply, before drawing tohil further into his chest once they’ve made it to the elevator. “tomorrow,” he stresses then, as if to signal that they’re done with the topic right now. then he breathes out a content little sigh.

“right now let’s take a shower to get all this paint off of you so that i may kiss you properly again without turning blue.” he grins lightly after those words, something sparkling in his eyes as he leans in close, but just not close enough to touch. “i’ll help you wash your back,” he says fondly, warmly, a little teasing glint in his eyes. “maybe other body parts as well.”

to tohil’s initial reply he wants to protest that it hadn’t been as simple as that for a long time, but that’s a fight he’s really not looking to have, because it is like that now and that’s all that matters anymore. so instead of fighting uselessly, he merely smiles, squeezes tohil’s hand a little tighter and leans in briefly to rest his head on his lover’s shoulder.

“not right now,” he protests tohil’s seeming enthusiasm to get out, a small chuckle falling from his lips. “right now i want to go home with you, share the bed and fall asleep to your heart beating beneath my ear. no; i have to make some arrangements, let all the right people know, and then...” he hums softly as he thinks about it, thinks about the steps he should take. he is part of the council, after all, chief of police. tohil is chief of the fire department. they should at least address their people personally before they go.

he wants to also say goodbye to the friends he’s made here or those of them that reside on the island now. like yoongi, angela, yanluo, sol, eros, amaterasu. it’s common decency, and osiris has never been anything but decent, at least to the people he cares for, the ones that matter. 

the sign is subtle, but obvious enough, and with it having been around for a while now, he thinks it’s perhaps time to finally give in to its insistent pull. still, there is one complication now, an unexpected one, but one that he does not take lightly. one that he wants to treat right.

“tohil,” he says softly after a moment, treasuring the gentle path the flames trace across his skin, almost the same way his thumb traces a path over the back of tohil’s hand, over the side of his lover’s thumb. “love. i think i need to leave this place for a while.” he turns his gaze away from the city then so that he can look at his lover’s face, let his gaze trail over those familiar features, even when they’ve been streaked with blue paint and addled to look more like his own form once upon a time. “i need to let the memories of this place become true memories before i can live here again in the future.”

he prides himself on it being the first time that he manages to completely make tohil speechless for all the right reasons, and so he pulls back a little when the mayan god’s words trail off into nothing but a loaded silence, the fire in tohil’s gaze communicating more than his words ever could anyway. still, he breathes out a soft smile, reaches up to brush his fingers tenderly through tohil’s hair, then over his forehead, down his temple, the apple of his cheek, his jaw. when they come to a stop around tohil’s lips, his smile widens with warmth and something else, something indescribable.

when he leans forward again, it’s to connect their lips only briefly. “keep me,” he repeats himself after. “keep me and i’ll keep you. i’ll find you. i’ll tell you everything. i’ll tell you all you need to know to know me, to know this thing between us, to know us. if you keep me i’ll keep you. i’ll keep you forever, darling.” his words are but whispers, breathed out against tohil’s skin, against the curve of his throat, against the line of his shoulder. he nuzzles tohil’s collarbone and then moves back up so he can look into the mayan god’s eyes again. those beautiful, shining eyes, so full of warmth and love and recognition. oh, osiris could never love another the way he loves tohil, the way he has always loved tohil. there is no one else who stirs these feelings inside of him to this extent, no one else he would give everything to. his very soul if it was asked of him, no doubt.

“my darling,” he repeats, gentle yet firm. possessive. like giving tohil a place to belong. here, here, here, in his arms, pinned underneath him, held close to his chest. in his heart, in his soul, in the very core of his being. “my love.” everything about this feels overwhelming, yet at the same time it feels so right, like there is no other way for them to be but together. together like this. no worries, no insecurities, no thoughts but of each other.

tohil responds to his words in kind, with so much ease and conviction that there is no way he could think the mayan god is not being serious. and then a sheepish little smile blooms on tohil’s face, an expression he hasn’t seen often before on this vessel but that he treasures all the more because of it. and then the next words are spoken and osiris briefly just... buffers.

he’s just looking down at the man he’s still got pressed up against his counter, taking in the hopeful gaze he’s being looked at with, processing the fact that tohil asked this of him, so quickly, so suddenly, so willingly. it takes him a good few seconds to manage to move past that, but then he breathes in slowly, his fingers flexing where they rest in tohil’s sides.

“try,” he echoes the word softly, not like an accusation, but like he’s tasting it on his tongue to see whether he likes it or not. he knows tohil is bad at commitment, his last round proved that more than plenty, but the fact that this god is willing to try for him? he doesn’t know anything more beautiful and wondrous than that. he doesn’t know anything he would like more, either, not right now.

“that’s it,” he says quite decidedly then, as he makes up his mind, straightening up and letting go of tohil’s sides just so he can take hold of the mayan god’s hands and start pulling him out of the kitchen, their dinner forgotten on the turned off stove, his freshly made pasta more than fine where it’s still in the fridge. “i’m ordering us dinner and kidnapping you to the couch.” he does exactly that, pulling tohil along with him until they’ve reached his couch, where he then gently pushes the other god down upon it, head on the armrest so he can move over him, one knee on each side of tohil’s middle.

tohil seems to really struggle with the choice between dinner or cuddles, but osiris simply stands and waits for his friend to make the decision. in the end it seems dinner is a more pressing matter, though tohil seems reluctant to leave him alone either way, offering yet again to help with dinner and making the offer more attractive by speaking of his more useful qualities. it takes just that; just tohil trying to make himself useful, trying to make sure osiris won’t send him away again, for the egyptian god to lose his earlier composure again.

where he’d been keeping a respectable distance between their bodies and giving tohil the space and time to decide just before, he suddenly surges forward, hands coming up this time to take hold of tohil’s face more solidly, pulling the mayan god into another kiss. this time he’s not as gentle as he was before, not as carefully held back, not as considerate of his partner. this time he’s demanding, claiming every little bit of air from the mayan god’s lungs as he presses both their lips and their bodies together.

he doesn’t care anymore about propriety. let the flames burn down his entire apartment and both their vessels altogether if it is too much; the physical need to be as close to tohil as possible, to kiss him like this, passionate and demanding, is too great to keep it at bay any longer. time could as well become mist as he moves his hands from tohil’s face down his body so he can manoeuvre them around until the mayan god is the one pressed against the counter and osiris the one crowding him against it, standing as close as is physically possible.

tohil had always run hotter than most regular humans did, and so osiris had perhaps always had an inkling that his lover - husband at the time - was more than what he seemed to be, but it’s never been clearer than in this very moment, when their kiss seems to spark a heat that is undeniable to either of them. he’s swept away by the intensity of their kiss, not just the touch of their bodies, but the way tohil seems to lose himself in it, the way nothing else seems more important to either one of them. 

then tohil whimpers into it, the sound cutting right to the very core of his being, so that when the mayan god pulls away, osiris’ eyes open almost instantly to check on him. his heart beats like crazy, just like tohil’s does under the palm of his hand as well when it comes to a rest on tohil’s chest. then the god of fire breathes out his name before settling his forehead upon osiris’ shoulder and there’s nothing else for him to do than hold the other god close. one arm slips around tohil’s shoulders to pull him in, the other moves so his hand can settle in tohil’s hair, sighing softly as he turns his head slightly to press a kiss into the soft locks as well.

“i know,” he breathes his reply next to tohil’s ear, starting to run his fingers softly and sweetly through his friend’s locks. “i know, tohil.” the name is uttered like the gentlest thing in existence, and when his lips settle against tohil’s hair again, they stay there this time. his eyes close almost automatically and he holds tohil as close to his chest as possible, seeming to never want to let him go again. “i’m sorry,” he mutters after another moment of silence, only to squeeze the mayan god a little closer. not an apology for whatever’s going on now, but for everything that has come before up until this point.

there’s no saying how long they stand there, how long osiris cradles tohil in his arms like he is the most precious thing they’ve ever held. there’s no saying how much longer he could have kept standing there were it not for his phone chiming a reminder at him to take the pasta dough out of his fridge. he doesn’t instantly pull away and run to get it, but he does loosen his hold a little so he can look down at the mayan god with gentle eyes.
