My country, like other countries affected by the pandemic, is currently at a loss in the hands of our government. What the people of the Philippines need right now are the following: mass testing (which has yet to be approved by our own Department of Health for reasons they cannot seem to specify); Personal Protective Equipment for our front liners (they’re dying away, and more are getting infected by the day because they don’t have proper equipment); support for our local government units (many of our local leaders are threatened by our own national government for doing exactly what they’re supposed to do to help their constituents), cash assistance, food subsidy (especially for the urban poor and marginalized sector of our country which comprises the vast majority. MOST OF THESE PEOPLE, IF THEY CANNOT GO TO WORK, THEY DON’T EAT.)
BUT GET THIS, INSTEAD OF PASSING PROVISIONS FOR THOSE, OUR GOVERNMENT GRANTED EMERGENCY POWERS TO OUR PRESIDENT INSTEAD. THE SAME PRESIDENT WHO STARTED HIS WAR ON DRUGS THAT KILLED THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WITHOUT DUE TRIAL.
With this, I’d like to call for your help, especially to my fellow Filipinos here who are blessed enough, like I am, to be able to stay at home without facing the problems dealt with everyday by our frontliners and urban poor.
