why do white people always try to make this non-point false equivalence when they know these are two completely different realities that don’t compare on any plane whatsoever

white people not only make black people hate their hair at an individual emotional level but literally at a systemic level in which black people are and have been for the last century unable to get jobs, attend colleges, enlist in the armed forces, etc. because of the treatment of their natural hair. there literally is nothing white people have to compare…

white people are not getting box braids because they feel pressured to, or out of fear that they won’t have access to a job or anything, but instead because they know it’s an “edgy black people thing” that they’re doing to be counter culture and subversive. there is literally no pressure on earth for anyone INCLUDING BLACK PEOPLE to worship or utilize Black hairstyles or Black hair in its natural state and you fucking know it. It’s literally the complete opposite for white hair. grow up

white people are not gelling down baby hairs for social mobility or financial security or comfort or assimilation.

This practically made me cry. How could this ever be okay?

I’m going to tell you a story that my tenth grade biology teacher told me. 

So, my teacher had a friend. She was happily married, a Christian, and pregnant. She and her husband were extremely excited about the pregnancy and they couldn’t wait to be parents. She was pretty far along - probably about 7 month in. She went to get a check-up, and her doctor checked out the fetus. Well, it turns out her fetus had hydrochephalus. In this particular case, the fetus’s head had not and would not form enough to even hold the brain inside the skull. If the woman continued the pregnancy, she would give birth to a dead baby, and that’s if it didn’t die in utero and possibly cause sepsis before she had the opportunity to give birth.

So, and this was before the “partial birth abortion ban” was enacted (not when the story was told, but when it took place), the woman opted to get an intact dilation and extraction procedure (since that’s the proper medical term, “partial birth abortion” is a made up term and has no medical relevance). 

Do you know what that allowed her to do? What that allows a lot of uterus-bearers in the same predicament to do? 

She was able to hold her dead, intact fetus and mourn for it.

Now, she would have to get a procedure that literally rips the fetus apart, since apparently anti-choicers looking for a means to chip away at Roe v Wade think that this is a better alternative to the described procedure above. As the law currently stands, it is now impossible for people like the woman I described to have their fetuses aborted intact so that they can hold them like they wanted to. It is impossible for women like the one I described to have a body to mourn over. 

So good job. Because you’re too ignorant to actually know why uterus-bearers get late-term abortion, specifically intact D & X procedures, you’ve essentially made it much harder for those that are experiencing the difficult choice to end a wanted pregnancy to mourn and move on. 

I spent New Year’s Eve at the red-blooded, all-American epicenter of college football: at the Chick-fil-A Bowl, next to Dan Cathy, as his personal guest. It was among the most unexpected moments of my life.

In which the leader of a LGBT advocacy group comes to respect the CEO of Chick-fil-a by,  well, talking to him, sharing issues and concerns, and basically acting like adults rather than treating each other as symbols and such.

America way of life under attack from within.

Maybe you’ve confused toner with cocaine? Or a giant vat of chocolate? Or single malt scotch? Or anything not boring? It’s an office supply. You buy it.

The same thing goes with pretty much everything else on the list. Wall art to make VA hospitals less depressing. Cubicle furniture. As in the furniture that you put in the cubicles you’re using instead of offices … because you’re not living particularly high.

Yes, it’s true that some strange spending habits emerge at the end of a fiscal year. Maybe you make a big supply purchase at the end of the year—because you’re going to need the supplies next year anyway. Why ever would a weird pattern like that emerge?
