Hang in there, Valentine. (1983, via ebay.com)
The End of an Era
Well, everyone, that’s it for Ewoksnotdiscourse.
It’s been a good run. Sometimes it didn’t look like we’d make it to a whole year (you may have noticed a few repeated images and even some repeat captions) but we pulled it off!
I hope this blog has been a force for good in some small way, and with nearly 200 followers I believe it has. Moreover I know that running this blog has made me a more complete person. I now know things about ewoks I never would have guessed beforehand.
So, going forward: This blog will not be deleted, and I’m holding on to the URL, but it will no longer update. If you’re interested, though, you can follow my main blog (where further posts pertaining to asexuality or the discourse will likely be made) or my Star Wars blog (where any further posts involving ewoks are likely to go).
More than that, however, I want you to remember:
Be good to yourself.
Be good to each other.
You are loved.
You belong.
And allay loo ta nuv.

Let it be known on this day, December 25th of 2017, Christmas Day, that all people on the Ace or Aro Spectrum have a place open to them in the LGBT+ Community.
Be they Asexual, Aromantic, Demisexual, Demiromantic, Grey Asexual, Grey Aromantic, or any other A-spec identity.
The community recognizes the shared struggle that exists between A-specs and all other constituent groups. It recognizes the shared history, as well as the contributions, historical and ongoing, made by A-specs to the community. Henceforth, in perpetuity, all a-specs are welcome in community spaces, welcome to take part in communal resources, and welcome to the support of community members in their individual struggles with oppression under Heterosexism.
So it is written and understood.
hey, i just wanted to remind all those aro-spec people out there that if you want? you can totally date someone, and it’s NOT abusive or manipulative or anything like that. you’re allowed to date someone without feeling romantically attracted to them. you’re also allowed to hook up or chill or have a qpp or not and be all good on your lonesome and just. all that matters is that you’re doing what makes you happy, and that you try to be a good force in the lives of those you surround yourself with, that’s it.
aphobes/terfs/regs of any kind do not interact
The solution to people being confused about their orientation, especially in circumstances where they misidentify as a-spec, is increased information about all identities, not the erasure of certain identities.
A-spec identities are just as important, and just as worthy of visibility. A-spec people are just as important, and just as worthy of information about themselves.
Straight is a position of power and as such is not equivalent to other orientations like Gay or Lesbian or Bi.
That a gay ace person is not less gay than a gay allo person does not say anything about “straight aces.”
Straightness, as a position of power, punishes deviation. Any deviation. Heteroromantic aces and heterosexual aros are not afforded the position of Straight by Straight Society.
The two are not equivalent.
New Years is coming up and I, for one, am looking forward to another great year of a-specs being in the LGBT+, Queer, and MOGAI communities.

things that aren’t “bad” or “cringey”

Ace and Aro are not null values.
Ace and Aro are not neutral states with no affect on your life.
A-spec orientations, even when split, are important parts of your identity, and you deserve to have them respected.
You don’t have to identify a “normal level of attraction” to know that you’re a-spec. If you identify with a-spec experiences, even if you’ve felt attraction before, there’s probably a reason for that, and if you find the a-spec community helpful to you, you have a right to it.
The intersection of oppression is not evidence a form of oppression does not exist.
That women, and people of color, and disabled people, etc, suffer more under aphobia does not mean aphobia does not exist.
Your experiences with oppression are not made invalid by your other experiences with oppression.
You have a right to identify, complain about, and fight your oppression, the same as any other member of the community.
You have a right to identify, complain about, and fight your oppressors, the same as any other member of the community.

There’s no need to form a new community from the ground up. Those who want a-specs out of the LGBT+ community are neither in the right, nor the majority. You belong, whether they like it or not.
The discourse isn’t about whether or not we should open the community to a-specs. It’s too late for that. You’re already here, already included, and already belong.
Some people may not like that, but that doesn’t change the practical reality we all live in.
