“Yes, you are wrong. Very wrong.”

“How?”

Odessa shook her head, “I am not acting like a mom, trust me.” She didn’t even know if she was acting like a big sister. Sometimes it felt more like a babysitting job than anything. Babysitting a 16-year-old at age 25 was not where she thought she’d ever find herself. “This is all easy for you to say ‘cause you’ve never met him. I’d have better luck getting to know a brick wall.”

“Then get to know the brick wall,” Ewan replied with a shrug. “Maybe try to have him get to know you first.”

“Thank you, that’s so nice to hear. Please, tell me how I should be trying to get him to like me, since you seem to know so much about fostering a 16-year-old.”

“Don’t act like a mom. If he’s not responding to that, try to treat him like a friend, learn about him. I don’t know about fostering a 16-year-old, but I know what it’s like to be an angsty teenage boy. It’s not like teenage girls, especially if something feels like your world is falling apart. I mean he’s still in the foster system at age sixteen, or was put in just now, there’s no way something okay had happened. Don’t learn from the papers, learn from him.”

“Uh, tell me how you really feel, I guess.”

“Am I wrong though?”

“He always bugs her. His mere presence bugs her, and no you can’t.” Juni snorted, “Andi is like three times the size of you Ewan.”

“So? I can take him,” Ewan responded. 

“Well yeah, obviously.” Juni smiled, “I wish I could, but i barely have any down time. I’m always doing this stuff. I know Moms don’t hate me but it feels like they don’t respect me.”

Ewan fiddled with the pens on the counter. “I can talk to them if you want,” Ewan replied.

“Because our parents hate me?” Juni shrugged. “I don’t know. It’s like they plan all this stuff with me in it and don’t even ask me if i’m busy. It sucks.”

“Moms don’’t hate you,” Ewan replied. “I’m sure they’d be supportive if you found something you’re really interested in and did that other than the Inn. zthey probably trust you more over anyone else at the Inn.”

“No, dumbass. I’m talking about Ainsley hiding from her ex-husband. Also, I feel like Ainsley would be pissed if you tried to bang Riley, so don’t.”

“Oh,” Ewan replied. “Is he bugging her? I can beat him up.”

Juni laughed, “I’m so glad that my siblings are delinquents like me. We’ll go once this stupid haunted house starts slow down. I hate this thing.” She gestured towards her costume. “It’s so hot.”

“Why does it have to be you who works this thing anyway?” Ewan questioned.

“Yeah, the hot one.” Juniper rolled her eyes. “Anyways, she’s probably with her or avoiding the ex-husband.” She snorted.

Ewan rolled his eyes at her eye roll. “Oh so she has an ex-husband. I like girls who have exes, it’s fun. How mad do you think Ainsley would get if I tried to bang her best friend?”
