Marilyn Monroe. The portrait was taken by the outstanding British cameraman and photographer Jack Cardiff in 1956.
Filming took place in England while working on the film "The Prince and the Dancer" (1957). Cardiff was the cameraman for this film and often photographed the actress in between takes.
These portraits are often called "Renoir" portraits, as Jack Cardiff intentionally used a soft focus and warm lighting, inspired by the painting technique of Impressionist Pierre Auguste Renoir. Jack Cardiff was a master of working with color and one of the best cameramen who worked with Technicolor film. The shooting of Marilyn in the image of the "Renoir girl" was conceived precisely as a picturesque, "luminous" color portrait imitating Impressionist oil paintings.
