Everytown for Gun Safety

Saturday is the first day of National Gun Violence Survivors Week -- when we ask everyone to shine a spotlight on the stories of Americans who have had loved ones taken by gun violence, who have been wounded or threatened with a gun, or witnessed a shooting. We'll be sharing the stories of survivors and statistics that highlight the impact of gun violence. 

More than 400 Moms Demand Action volunteers, Students Demand Action leaders, and survivors of gun violence gathered in Tallahassee today to discuss gun violence prevention and urge legislators to act. If you're ready to get involved and make a difference, text JOIN to 644-33!

A change in federal rules could soon allow for 3D printed gun blueprints to be posted online. This would enable convicted felons, terrorists and domestic abusers to acquire untraceable guns, and that puts all of us at risk.

VICTORY! In a major breakthrough for gun safety, Congress has appropriated funding for gun violence research for the first time in more than two decades.⁠ ⁠ Thanks to Rep. Nita Lowey, Rep. Rosa DeLauro and Sen. Patty Murray for ushering through these life-saving funds. 🎉

Seven years ago today, 20 children and six educators had their lives taken by a horrific act of gun violence at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT. ⁠ ⁠ We hold the victims, survivors, and Newtown community in our hearts as we all work together to end gun violence in all its forms.⁠

Seven years ago today, Paul Kemp got word from his sister that there had been a shooting at the Clackamas Town Center Mall in Oregon. Hours later, they found out that his sister's husband, Steve, had been shot and killed. Read Paul's #MomentsThatSurvive story here.

NEW: Click here to read our new analysis of mass shootings, showing that in the decade between 2009 and 2018, there were a total of 194 mass shootings, which left 1,121 people dead and an additional 836 people wounded. The analysis also includes a new mass shooting map with downloadable data from 2009 to the present. Everytown defines a mass shooting as a shooting in which four people are fatally shot, not including the shooter. Other findings include: - 54% of mass shootings over the past decade were perpetrated by someone who displayed prior warning signs - Domestic violence is a part of over half of mass shootings - 1 in 3 shooters were legally prohibited from possessing firearms Our peer high-income nations all have video games, internet access and rates of mental illness on par with the U.S. What they don’t have is easy access to firearms. The clear trends in these statistics underscore that strengthening our gun laws can help prevent gun violence.

At least 22 trans Americans have been killed in 2019, at least 17 of whom were fatally shot. Nearly every victim was a Black woman. On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember their lives and fight to #DisarmHate so transgender people can feel safe being themselves and knowing they're free from the threat of gun violence. #TDOR

Several people were shot at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, CA; at least two people have died. This is at least the 85th incident of gunfire on school grounds this year.

Today, we remember the shooting that took place one year ago at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA.  Eleven people were killed and six others wounded in the deadliest anti-Semitic act in U.S. history.
