So as many have probably noticed (or perhaps not, considering nothing is done on tumblr, it’s the other social media that brimm with news), GDA is going through yet another grand revival… this time hopefully more permanent.

I realise that everyone had their own takes on the GDA setting. Hell, I’m aware that a lot of people did not even ever bother reading the Word Of God (if you did not - read it, there’s a compiled version too; it’s the actual GDA basis to begin with, even if it’s sometimes wonky and has a bunch of holes as well).

So I kinda figured, especially since apparently some people want to rework the lore? To grab the chance and ask about what everyone’s take on the lore is to begin with, so we can sort it with what is already there and hopefully try to make it work without anyone having to change anything (or at least minimise the impact as much as possible) while getting a setting that’s actually… well.  Consistently playable.

tl;dr If you don’t mind, please send me what your take on the lore is, as detailed as possible or as you deem necessary! Let us try to get things up to speed so we can have a compiled community lore we can all use and play without stumbling in!

A S K ABOUT IT

Geography Of Hinomoto

- Kaen-han (火炎 藩 ) - literally Flame Domain, capital: Tatemoto-shi* (palace’s origin 館本市) - Hyouga-han ( 氷河 藩 ) - literally Glacier Domain, capital: Sanmyakuto-shi* (mountains vein’s city 山脈門 市) - Fuhen-han (不偏 藩 ) - literally Impartial Domain, capital: Hitoyoshi-shi* (people’s luck city 人吉 市) - Inei-han (陰影 藩 ) - literally Shadow Domain, capital: Minegi-shi* (coast ridge city 峰岸 市) - Kouhai-han (荒廃 藩 ) - not an official name but people have started calling the devastated parts of the land that, since it kind of fell out of control of any Clan. *please note that ‘shi’ is an administrative suffix. Most people would probably refer to the city names’ as just “Minegi” instead of “Minegi-shi”, while documents will mention the city with the suffix! ————————— Hinomoto (日の本) is an island country with a temperate climate. The winters aren’t too harsh, and  the summers aren’t excessively hot, either. Due to the surrounding waters, they’re pretty humid though, and rain is a frequent occurrence. After the civil war split the country, some have started calling what used to be a single state Bukoku (分国) - “divided land”. Majority of the country is covered in hills and valleys, especially around the island’s centre. Combined with the moisture the surrounding waters provide, it makes it a perfect land for farming, with the most even terrain laying to the North, most of Kaen-han laying on flatlands. The biggest chain of mountains spreads along the West coast in the south, with the Hyouga-han’s capital at the mountain chain’s gate. Similar formations, but more rocky and of less height and span are found lining the rigged North-West coast of Kaen-han and  part of the East coast, obstructing access to Hinomoto from sea from the nearby foreign lands. Main sea trade routes used to head towards the even line of the East, but ever since the war has turned that side of Hinomoto into wastelands, they fell out of use. Most ships now go either to the ports in the North-East incline in land within Kaen-han’s territory and through ports of West Coast - through the gates of the Inei-han and smooth coastline of Hyouga-han.

   The nation of Hinomoto united a few centuries ago under the feudal system, with the most powerful Clan at the time, the Fire Clan, establishing a hierarchy under the - now royal - family’s government. The Clan’s head ruling as the emperor (mikado 帝), with other clans holding administrative power over their respective regions, their heads serving as the daimyo (大名) of their domains. The absolute decisive power was still in the hands of the mikado, though… that is, until the civil war broke out.

   The previous mikado was hardly popular with the people, and even with the other clans. He kept gathering riches, putting higher and higher taxes on the peasants; farmers,merchants and artisans alike. The tension kept raising until it finally reached its peak when a new law enforcing even higher taxing has been announced, and the dams broke. People further from the capital especially rose against the government, since their domain did not even thrive off any benefits of the Fire Clan amassing all the money, and led by the Ice Clan of the south, started rebellion, dragging everyone in their wake into the conflict across the whole country. 

   Over 4 years since the conflict broke out, the mikado has been seized and arrested to be put to trial. Result of it was supposed to end the war and bring back peace and law to the land by formally assigning a new rule of succession and new legislation. However before his trial could even happen, he was found dead in his cell. To this day, no one knows  what happened, and people can only speculate. As per current laws, the next one in line of succession, Ringo, has taken over the position - and so nothing has been solved.

   Another two years passed under the new ruler. It has been 6 years now since the civil war started. 

   The Shadow Clan, retaining its neutrality (or rather, loyalty-to-those-who-pay mentality) all along, guards the water routes between the two warring domains, preventing sea warfare and forcing them to take longer routes going through what is now the Neutral Clan’s domain.    As a result, large parts of the land have been plundered and destroyed by the battles, especially along the trade routes on the east of the island, rendering them unfit for farming and desolated. In theory, one could say that it belongs to the domain of the Neutral Clan, but people have started calling it bitterly Kouhai-han - the Ruined domain. It’s the most dangerous region, since no clan’s actual control reaches it anymore, and bandits roam the battlefields.

   The people are tired of the fighting. Most do not wage battles anymore. It’s not peace; rather, an awkward, tense armistice. But at least for now, people don’t have to die. Unless, of course, they trespass into an enemy’s domain.

Here’s a few pointers to creating new Clans for the AU!

Always ask the admins for permission first when creating a new Clan!

 As the creator, you will have to create an emblem of the Clan you make.

Clans have exclusive powers. People not related by blood to the clan can obtain them by pledge of loyalty (see: Powers), but members of a clan inherit them naturally. This means you should come up with your own power for the clan.

Of course, all powers have to abide by the group rules, so make sure the power you give to your clan is not too overpowered!

And just for Clarity, the power of a Clan is exclusive to only that Clan. Hence it’s not possible for there to be a Clan with water powers within the Neutral domain, because water power belongs to the Ice clan!

If your Clan is a smaller clan within one of the main domains, you will still count as a member of the Neutral or Fire or Ice domain etc. However, you will not be able to have powers of the leading Clan of the given domain! Please keep that in mind!

For example, people affiliated with the Fire Clan can have a power related to either fire or lightning. But if your character is a member of, let’s say, a Clan that has the power of Light, then they will not be able to use fire or lightning, only light. Powers are Clan-based, not domain-based!

If you want to claim your own piece of territory instead of belonging to an existing leading Clan’s domain, YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR PERMISSION!!

A Clan like that will have to have a minimum of 3 (tentative) members to be approved of. It would make no sense to have only a single character claiming an independent  territory, after all!

In this instance, you will also be responsible for establishing their attitude towards the other Clans and the conflict as a whole, so please make sure you’re well-familiar with the setting and consult with us to make sure everything fits the AU and its story!

Fire clan: Fire or Lightning

Ice clan: Ice or Water

Neutral clan: Earth or Air

Shadow clan: Dark

Rules:

The power can only be obtained by if you are born in the Clan’s main family (remember to ask for permission if you want to be related to the ruling families!), or by swearing loyalty to your chosen clan.

If you are not bound by blood and you don’t  pledge your loyalty to any Clan, then you have no powers.

If one betrays their own clan and went to the another clan then they can gain the specified element in that clan but will lose the element obtained from former clan. One cannot have two types of powers

The strength of your powers are related to your social status, if you are a noble, your power will be stronger than that of a commoner but weaker than a member of a ruling family

If someone born from the ruling family betrays their clan to join another, the strength of the newly acquired power will me the same as that of a commoner

Your power is limited. If you want to extend its range or area of effect, then its strength will be weaker. Similarly, the more concentrated your power is, the more powerful.

Please think of it as only ever having a limited amount of power you can use. The greater the area or distance you want to cover, the more thinly spread/concentrated your power will be. For example, if your limit is creating a 1m big ball of ice, then if you want to cover the floor with it instead, it will be a lot more thin - but reach further thanks to that.

This means that if you specialise in long-ranged attacks, they will be weaker, than if you were to specialise in close-range use of your power.

Elements can either be used by fist, by weapon or by simple magic.

No powers too strong that can result to instant death to enemy. This is considered overpowered.

Limit the range of attacks for less than 3m if short or long range does not apply.

Be creative with the powers but keep in mind the balance for the damage taken vs the distance of attack. As we have stated before, we don’t want anyone godmodding.

Weapons can be anything as long as it fits the setting (in Feudal era)

Also, it should be obvious if you’re is spying for on opposing clan’s territory then he/she must hide his/her powers.

Setting:

Conflict has arose between the government and it’s people. The former ruler of the government has been increasing tax and brings up outrageous laws that the people are against with. He won’t even hand a single land to the mass and keeps all the riches with himself. With life getting harder for the people, uprising often occurs in the continent and has stirred up war destroying most of the land. The despotic ruler was thrown out of his position, died and was replaced. Now a new leader replaced him and gained power over the land. However, the people are still not satisfied after what happened and can no longer trust the government. And so the war continues…

The government consists of the fire clan while the rebels are from the ice clan. Samurais and assassins have stood up in the front lines in order to win the war and gain full control over the land. Which of the clans will succeed?

Clans:

Fire clan - The Government. A powerful clan that administers the laws and justice over the land.

Ice clan - The rebels. A defiant group that started war against the government in order to gain full control over the land.

Neutral clan - The people. They prefer peace and quiet and do not mingle with the conflict between the government and rebels.

Shadow clan - The Assassins. A group of mercenaries that work to kill for which clan hires them.

Rules:

You can create as many characters as you like!

Clothes must have a slight hint based from Japanese Feudal Era. Otherwise, then be creative as much as you want!

Include jobs or status in your character profile (ex. swordsman, assassin, peasant, noble)

Characters may have abilities and powers but should be related to what clan they’re in (ex. Chara A is in fire clan and must have fire related powers)

Interact with others thru askblogs or by hc. Your choice~

You can make your own clan and embelm however they must fit the setting.

Contact the respective leaders of the clan you want to join to.
