Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā iĀ justĀ fuckingĀ saidĀ iĀ wasĀ sorry,Ā whatĀ moreĀ doĀ youĀ want?!āĀ iĀ canātĀ takeĀ backĀ whatĀ happened,Ā leon.Ā iĀ CANāT.Ā &Ā iāmĀ sorryĀ thatĀ iĀ canāt.Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā heāsĀ gettingĀ upsetĀ /Ā butĀ heĀ canātĀ reallyĀ helpĀ thatĀ atĀ thisĀ point.Ā thereāsĀ aĀ whiteĀ hotĀ PANICĀ racingĀ throughĀ himāĀ afraidĀ thatĀ ifĀ leonĀ leavesĀ NOW,Ā heāllĀ trulyĀ neverĀ seeĀ himĀ again.Ā heĀ canātĀ letĀ thatĀ happen.Ā becauseĀ ifĀ heĀ does,Ā itāllĀ beĀ anotherĀ thingĀ toĀ addĀ toĀ hisĀ everĀ growingĀ LISTĀ ofĀ regrets.Ā
Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā iĀ wasnātāāĀ iĀ justĀ thoughtĀ thatāĀ Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā heĀ cutsĀ himselfĀ off,Ā tryingĀ toĀ thinkĀ ofĀ theĀ rightĀ thingĀ toĀ say.Ā jackĀ neverĀ reallyĀ wasĀ anyĀ goodĀ withĀ wordsĀ /Ā thatāsĀ whatĀ LEONĀ wasĀ for.Ā &,Ā heĀ supposes,Ā thatĀ wasĀ whyĀ theyĀ madeĀ suchĀ aĀ goodĀ team.Ā theĀ boyĀ scoutĀ alwaysĀ keptĀ himĀ inĀ check,Ā madeĀ upĀ forĀ jackāsĀ WEAKNESSESĀ withĀ hisĀ ownĀ strengths.Ā nowāĀ everythingĀ justĀ seemsĀ soĀ fuckedĀ up.Ā &Ā itāsĀ noĀ oneāsĀ faultĀ butĀ hisĀ own.
Ā Ā Ā krauserĀ standsĀ up,Ā theĀ fingersĀ onĀ hisĀ leftĀ handĀ TWITCHINGĀ asĀ theĀ parasiteĀ squirmsĀ beneathĀ hisĀ skin.Ā itāsĀ upset.Ā becauseĀ HEāSĀ upset.Ā butĀ itāsĀ somethingĀ heĀ canātĀ avoidĀ forever.Ā heĀ shouldĀ haveĀ known,Ā soonerĀ orĀ later,Ā hisĀ pastĀ wouldĀ catchĀ upĀ toĀ him.Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā donātĀ go,Ā okay?Ā iāmĀ tryingāĀ justāĀ Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā
Ā Ā Ā Donāt go. The tone of his voice, so different than the rest, less angry now and more desperate. How could Leon listen to that and actually turn his back? When was he ever one to give up just because it hurt? No matter how much he wanted to snap back he bit his tongue, knew better than to keep pushing and prodding until Krauser bit back. If he wanted him to stay, then Leon would stay. At least for a little while longer.
Ā Ā Ā āIām not asking you to take anything back. But I donāt think Iām sorryĀ really cuts it here, Jack.ā He wasnāt picking a fight; he really wasnāt. There was less anger in his voice and more exhaustion, a tired sort of pain that rooted itself in his very soul. Did Krauser deserve another chance? After everything? Leon still had nightmaresĀ about that mission, and he was willing to bet that Ashley did, too. But he just didnāt have it in him to condemn Krauser, not when he had known the man beneath it all. A good man he had looked up to and trusted with his life.
Ā Ā Ā ā--Iāll stay. I believe you. Iām not here to yell at you--you realize that, right? Iām here because I wanted to see you. Because I care. No matter what happened between us, thatās never going to change.ā He just wouldnāt mention that he couldnāt exactly fully trustĀ him. But hey; he was trying too.
1998: Whatever it takes to save this cityā¦count me in.Ā
2017: This again, huh? Itās like Iām stuck in a goddamn loop.

Ā Ā Ā leonĀ looksĀ goodāāĀ heĀ doesnātĀ knowĀ WHYĀ itāsĀ oneĀ ofĀ theĀ firstĀ thingsĀ heĀ notices,Ā butĀ itĀ is.Ā theĀ otherĀ hasĀ GROWNĀ inĀ theirĀ timeĀ apartĀ /Ā heĀ supposesĀ heĀ hasĀ asĀ well.Ā thereāsĀ beenĀ longĀ yearsĀ spentĀ alone,Ā outsideĀ ofĀ eachĀ otherāsĀ company,Ā &Ā forĀ aĀ momentĀ itĀ makesĀ himĀ sad.Ā maybeĀ inĀ aĀ differentĀ lifeĀ thingsĀ couldĀ haveĀ beenĀ different.Ā butĀ thereāsĀ noĀ pointĀ LONGINGĀ forĀ thingsĀ thatĀ cannotĀ be.Ā Ā
Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā iĀ donātĀ knowĀ whatĀ youĀ wantĀ meĀ toĀ say.Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā heĀ says,Ā finallyĀ lookingĀ backĀ upĀ atĀ theĀ other.Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā āāĀ iāmĀ sorry?Ā Ā Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā Whatever he had been expecting, it wasnāt an apology. Unsure as it was, Leon could feel the thought behind it, could practically seeĀ the wheels turning just beneath the surface. There was, however, something genuine there, something that told Leon his efforts werenāt (completely) in vain. Still, there was a lot of anger brewing between them, as dangerous and volatile as an electrical storm, and the guiltĀ he felt hardly made matters any easier. Sometimes he really wished he was the type to just get blindly angry.
Ā Ā Ā āThatās not fair.āĀ
Ā Ā Ā There was a pained note in his voice, a clear sign that he was not taking it all in stride. He had changed since last they met--and even then he hadnāt been the same man that Krauser had once befriended. The world had beaten Leon down, the idealistic rookie cop from Raccoon City a complete stranger. And yet there was still that fire burning inside of him, that need to save people, to help those he could still reach. Krauser might have kept slipping through his fingers, but he wasnāt going to let go just yet.
Ā Ā Ā āBut I guess itās what I get, right? I was stupid to think Iād get anything else after youāve gone through great lengths to avoid me. Again.ā
Ā Ā Ā Maybe it was hisĀ turn to be a little unfair, but he was past caring. He had, at least, accomplished his primary goal of seeing for himself that Krauser was still alive. Even if nothing else came from it he at least knew that much. That was something he could live with.
Ā Ā Ā ā--Sorry. You know what? Just forget it. You donāt want me here, I barged in, and Iāll leave. You wonāt have to see me again if thatās what you want. But I will say one last thing: Iām glad youāre alive.ā

"And a happy mothers day to one Doctor Birkin, to whom my heart grows fonder every day." Card, flowers- it's the whole deal. He absolutely isnt over compensating because he ALMOST forgot. No not at all
Ā Ā Ā For nearly a weekĀ Annette had been wondering whether or not William would remember Motherās day was coming up--and not because he could scarcely remember to feed himself. When the days of the week blurred together it was often difficult to remember special days: birthdays, anniversaries, that sort of thing. Of course AnnetteĀ was always on top of things, and she even went to the painstaking lengths of writing such events down, in red marker, on their shared calendar. But for Motherās day, well--she had just left it blank. If he couldnāt read the small, printed note and remember to give thanks to the mother of his actual child, then it wasnāt her fault, was it?
Ā Ā Ā Ah, but he hadĀ remembered! There was a lovely card from the drug store, cut flowers from the little bins at the end of each aisle. The perfect combination for the man with only minutes to spare. Of course she was happy just to see that he had remembered at all, and she absolutely adored the way he played it all off as carefully planned, but as she ran her fingers over a slightly wilting daisy she wondered how panicked he must have felt. Watching him race to the store in terror would have honestly been the better gift, but the thought still counted.
Ā Ā Ā Lips curved into something of a forced smile, just a little too cheerful.Ā āI wasnāt sure if youād remember--and now I feel so guiltyĀ for thinking you would ever forget.ā Lies. All lies. This is a test, William Birkin--be wary.
Ā Ā Ā āTheyāre beautiful.ā Still smiling, she leaned closer, placing a gentle kiss at the corner of her husbandās lips.Ā āJust let me put them in some water; some of them seem to be drooping already.

@80scool wants to lose a knife fight
Ā Ā Ā Years have passed since Leon had last seen this manās face, an entire lifetime. Gone was the naive rookie cop, a man who had barely been able to handle the knife he had been handed, who barely clawed his way from the depths of a nightmare. In his stead stood an agent of the government, a soldier fighting a war that would never end, not even with his death. A man who stared the impossible in the eye time and time again, who had survived more incidents than any person had any right to. It was a safe bet that his skills had improved.
Ā Ā Ā The knife felt comfortable in his hand, almost an extension of himself by this point. While a blade was little use against most BOWs, there were plenty of peopleĀ who he found it worked better against. The monsters werenāt always the biggest threat; sometimes he found that it was the living that twisted his stomach into knots instead.
Ā Ā Ā āYou know--ā His grip on the knife is relaxed, posture almost casual, as though he didnāt honestly expect things to devolve into violence.Ā āIs this even fair? Iām not really the kinda guy that goes around picking on the elderly.ā
silverdaxā:
Ā Ā Ā jackĀ letsĀ goāāĀ beforeĀ heĀ doesĀ somethingĀ stupid.Ā TEMPER,Ā TEMPERĀ /Ā krauserĀ neverĀ wasĀ oneĀ knownĀ forĀ hisĀ diplomacy.Ā thatāsĀ whyĀ heĀ alwaysĀ hadĀ leonĀ toĀ doĀ theĀ talking.Ā butĀ thatĀ doesnātĀ particularlyĀ helpĀ himĀ inĀ situationsĀ likeĀ these.Ā soĀ heĀ takesĀ aĀ fewĀ stepsĀ back,Ā foldingĀ hisĀ armsĀ overĀ hisĀ chest.
Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā no,Ā actually.Ā justĀ theĀ friendĀ whoĀ almostĀ killedĀ me.Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā thatāsĀ notĀ fair.Ā heĀ KNOWSĀ thatāsĀ notĀ fairĀ theĀ secondĀ heĀ saysĀ it,Ā butĀ heĀ doesnātĀ care.Ā thatĀ COCKYĀ attitudeĀ heĀ usedĀ toĀ likeĀ inĀ leonĀ doesĀ nothingĀ butĀ pissĀ himĀ offĀ now.Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā āĀ donātĀ pissĀ meĀ off,Ā leon.Ā weĀ bothĀ knowĀ iādĀ ENDĀ youĀ closeĀ combat.Ā Ā Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā determined?Ā well,Ā thatĀ wasĀ ONEĀ wayĀ toĀ putĀ whatĀ leonĀ was.Ā jackĀ wouldĀ describeĀ itĀ moreĀ likeĀ relentlessĀ /Ā withĀ anĀ unrealisticĀ senseĀ ofĀ optimism.Ā heĀ rollsĀ hisĀ eyesĀ &Ā turnsĀ toĀ walkĀ deeperĀ intoĀ hisĀ apartment.Ā leonĀ willĀ follow,Ā asĀ heĀ alwaysĀ does.
Ā Ā Ā The words stung worse than any blade, cutting straight through his armor. What choice did he have but to fight back? To defend himself, to survive. It wasnāt as though he had ever wantedĀ to fight Krauser, and he had very nearly died himself more than once. How had this become hisĀ fault?
Ā Ā Ā āYou want to kill me? Then go ahead. Iām not armed; you know you have the advantage here.ā He wouldnāt, though--Leon was sure of that. How many chances had he already had? If he had wanted Leon dead he could have hunted him down and done the job at just about any time. Most nights he could be down deep in a bottle; it wouldnāt have been difficult.
Ā Ā Ā He followed, of course--still the loyal puppy following others, no matter how independent he became. Trust wasnāt easy for him to build, not these days, and Leon preferred to hold onto old friends rather than make new, but how many oldĀ friends did he have left? They kept falling away, drifting, dying. And, it seemed, at least one had come back to life. Again.
Ā Ā Ā āSo you wanna tell me what I did? Why this all rests on my shoulders, when youāre the one who tried to kill me? I mourned you, Jack. I had to deal with your death twice--I had to copeĀ with being the one to kill you. At least thatās what I thought...shouldāve known it wouldnāt be that simple.ā

Ā Ā ā Ā Ā what Ā the Ā hell Ā is Ā wrong Ā with Ā you?!ā Ā how Ā did Ā you Ā find Ā me? Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā
Ā Ā There was a moment of real concern, something akin to fearĀ as he found himself slammed against the door, one hand coming up to grab Krauser by the arm as though to stave off whatever attack might be coming. An automatic reaction, one he would regret, but after nearly being killed by the man (and a life of near death experiences) he had a right to be worried. But for what it was worth he had come unarmed, his gun left in the car and only even thereĀ because leaving the house without it was impossible. If Krauser had kept up with him over the years he would realize just how incredibleĀ it was that Leon had managed to leave it anywhere.Ā
Ā Ā Ā ā--Is that how you treat allĀ your old friends?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ever the joker, masking the truth behind terrible jokes and sarcasm. This time, however, the attempt didnāt reach his face, disbelief painted across hardened features. His mind buzzed with countless questions, with all the things he wanted to say over the years, the things he shouldĀ have said, should have asked. And now that he found himself staring back at Krauser the words were curiously absent. Just what did you say in a situation like this? Good to see you again?
Ā Ā Ā āWhat the hell is wrong with me?ā Anger crept into his voice now, soft, quiet--dangerous.Ā āDo you know how long Iāve grieved over your death? Deaths? What did I do to deserve getting left out of the reunion this time?ā
Ā Ā Ā He should stop--he knew it, could feel something ugly twisting inside of him, fighting to pour out of him. And maybe he would let it, depending on how things went, but until thenĀ he knew it was better to keep a cool head. There was a lot he needed to know, and probably a lot he needed to explain as well.
Ā Ā Ā āFinding you wasnāt easy, Iāll tell you that. But you know how determined I can be--donāt you?ā

Ā Ā Ā heĀ rollsĀ outĀ ofĀ bed,Ā wipingĀ aĀ handĀ overĀ hisĀ faceĀ beforeĀ tossingĀ aĀ glareĀ overĀ toĀ theĀ door.Ā heĀ swearsāĀ ifĀ itāsĀ albertĀ again,Ā heāsā¦Ā goingĀ toĀ doĀ nothing.Ā butĀ heĀ willĀ beĀ pissedĀ aboutĀ it.Ā &Ā Ā perhapsĀ itĀ wasĀ foolishĀ toĀ openĀ theĀ doorĀ withoutĀ lookingĀ whoĀ itĀ wasĀ first,Ā butĀ hey!Ā krauserĀ diedĀ backĀ inĀ spain,Ā heĀ hadĀ noĀ reasonĀ toĀ believeĀ itĀ couldĀ beĀ aĀ GHOSTĀ ofĀ hisĀ past.
Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā āāĀ noāĀ no!Ā whatĀ theĀ fuckā-Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā jackĀ quicklyĀ slamsĀ theĀ doorĀ backĀ SHUT,Ā bracingĀ itĀ withĀ hisĀ goodĀ shoulder.Ā leonĀ wasĀ theĀ lastĀ personĀ heĀ wasĀ expectingĀ /Ā orĀ atĀ least,Ā ONEĀ ofĀ theĀ last.Ā thereāsĀ noĀ wayĀ leonĀ couldĀ haveĀ knownĀ heĀ wasĀ stillĀ alive,Ā soĀ SOMEONEĀ mustĀ haveĀ letĀ itĀ slip.Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā howĀ theĀ fuckĀ didĀ youĀ findĀ me?!Ā Ā Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā Time stalled in that moment, that brief secondĀ in which Leon heard hisĀ name once again. Killed in a helicopter crash--killed in Spain--the cycle, the loss, the betrayalĀ still fresh, running through his veins like both fire and ice. How many times had he mourned him now, poured out a drink in his name, one after the other until the colors of his dingy apartment blurred together like shadows? To find out, after all of that, that the man was still alive, that he was being hiddenĀ away from him as though LeonĀ was the problem?
Ā Ā Ā WasĀ he the problem?
Ā Ā Ā Weight struck squarely in the chest, knocking the wind out of him, sending him dangerously close to the edge. Unable to speak, or even actually think, Leon had thrown his phone across the room in favor of splashing water over his face from the kitchen sink, hands trembling. Not today. There would be time to drink himself into numbness later, but not today. He needed a clear head, needed to see for himself that Jack Krauser, of all people, was still alive.
Ā Ā Ā The mission gave him something to think about, something to focus on rather than spiral for about a hundred different reasons. But the moment he found himself staring at Krauserās door his heart began to race, desperation filtering over him like cool rain. A fist came to pound against the door, the time for niceties long since past. He needed to know, needed to see--
Ā Ā Ā āJack--!ā More familiar than he had been in Spain, the first name tumbling from his lips before he could stop it. His arm shot out to stop the door from slamming in his face, a moment too late. Shit.Ā āYou want answers? Well, Iām not gonna talk to you through a door. Youāre gonna have to open up,Ā ācause thereās a fewĀ answers I want for myself.ā
Drinking
Ā Ā Ā During his teenage years Leon had mostly avoided alcohol, only ever drinking at his friendsā collective insistenceāand even then it was one or two at the most. The first night he actually got good and properly drunk was his twenty-first birthday, and when he woke up, late for work and hung over, he promised himself he would never let it happen again. But then Raccoon City happened, and everything Leon had promised himself in the past seemed small, and insignificant. What was a drink here or there when the living dead could walk the earth?
Ā Ā Ā Alcohol, at least, didnāt become a coping methodānot yet, at any rate. During his time in training with the US government, Leon allowed himself to become a more social drinker. The nightmares of Raccoon City still plagued him, but his waking hours were something more akin to normal, at least. Follow orders when he needed to. Spend time with other recruits. Make friends. Although it wasnāt the life he had chosen for himself, it was at least something he understood. That idealistic rookie cop hadnāt died yet, and although he had grown and matured seemingly overnight, he still looked toward the future, toward living a life that made the world a little bit safer. Toward the end of Umbrella and bioterrorism as a whole.
Ā Ā But the future wasnāt nearly as bright as he had hoped. The world was at war, and bioterrorism ran rampant. Over the years Leon witnessed the deaths of people he came to know and trust explicitly, of people he had barely gotten to talk to, of people he didnāt even get to know at all. Innocent people died all around him, new nightmares came to him daily, both waking and imagined, and before long it became too much; Leon simply couldnāt cope anymore.
Ā Ā Ā By 2012 there wasnāt even an attempt to hide his alcoholism. Tremors ran through his body when he went too long without a drink, and he started bringing a flask with him on missions. Although he never let his drinking impede his work, he simply couldnāt handle going without it. Alcohol took the edge off, kept him centered, allowed him to throw himself wholly into his mission. And afterward? Well, when he had nothing to do Leon could hardly let himself be alone with his thoughts, and he threw himself into drinking completely.Ā
Ā Ā Ā At the insistence of Hunnigan and his friend Adam Benford, Leon began leaving the flask at home in mid-2013. He began drinking just a little bit less, and with therapy began feeling a little more like the man he used to be. There was slight recovery, and Leon was grateful for it. There were days he felt like he could breathe again, days where he felt the distant spirit of that hopeful cop back in Raccoon. He was well on his way to actually getting better when the Tall Oaks incident occurred, followed shortly by Lanshiang. Leon fell into a deep despair again, spiraling back into his old drinking habits.
Ā Ā Ā For years his alcoholism worsened, reaching the point where he couldnāt hardly sleep unless he was drunk. If he dared to remain sober he was beset by an onslaught of nightmares, night terrors and hallucinations brought about by lack of sleep and untreated PTSD. Try as she might, Hunnigan was unable to reach him, and although Leon knew he was hurting the one constant friend he had he couldnāt stop. Leon needed something to pour himself into, and without a mission alcohol was the only thing he felt he had to numb the pain.Ā
(80scool) "If I had to rate you from 1 to 10, I'd give you a 9, because I'm the 1 you're missing."
ā Are you the moon? Because I need you 238,000 miles away from me.ā
First Day on the Job
Ā Ā Ā For the bulk of his life Leon had been the good kidĀ in school. Good grades, minded his teachers, was never in trouble. His years in community college were just the same, no matter how his friends begged him to let loose and have a little fun. Always the designated driver, rarely a drinker. Of course, that wasnāt to say he neverĀ drankābut he only did so when he knew everyone had a safe ride home. So when he turned twenty-one it was hardly a surprise that his friends wanted to take him out drinking. And, for once, Leon didnāt argue.
Ā Ā Ā On September 28th, the day before he was set to move to a new city, a new life, Leon went out to celebrate his birthday with his friends. Since Raccoon City wasnāt thatĀ far, and his shift wasnāt until late the next night, Leon allowed himself to indulgeājust a little. At some point he lost track of the drinks his friends put in front of him, and of the hours ticking away. He lamented growing older all the while celebrating his achievement of becoming a cop. Before he knew it he would be out there in a real city, protecting the innocent people and making a differenceĀ in the world. Officer Kennedy would be reporting for dutyāin a little more than twelve hours, god willing.
Ā Ā Ā When Leon woke up the next afternoon he was already running late. In a panic, he drove home, grabbed his packed bags, and threw them into the Jeep his mother had helped him pick out after graduating high school. With no furniture of his own at home, moving was a simple task. There was a foldout couch already in the apartment, along with a few chairs, a TVāthings most people wouldnāt take with them, but they were things Leon was happy to grab. He had never lived on his own before, and had been working all through college to save for the day he left the police academyāfor the day he became a real cop.
Ā Ā Ā When the clock struck five, Leon wished his mother good bye and got into his Jeep and left without another glance at the clock. Even if he sped he felt he would end up being late, but he would at least have a good story. Overslept, hungover, barely twenty-oneāhe was clearlyĀ the crown jewel of the RPD if anyone stopped to think about it. And as night fell and he finally reached city limits, he had no idea he wouldnāt have to use any of his excuses or share any of the hilarious stories from his last, normal birthday party. He had no idea that he had just driven into a nightmare, and that his life would never be the same.
