cecilia tallis
ânot our fault theyâre all so very ignorant,â she replied, amusement seeping into her voice. god rest his cheating soul, but her late husband had run with that same crowd. had he been alive, cecilia wouldnât have been surprised to see him suddenly sucking up to adam, completely enamoured by the frenchmanâs new title. after all, asking for favours was much, much easier if youâd done your due diligence and kissed someoneâs ass a little.
âplease tell me you bought something incredible,â cecilia said, her grin wide. after all, how on earth could one go to a silent auction and not buy anything? there was going to be one at her place in just two weeks, and finding the weirdest items was her favourite thing to do. âsecrets?â she began, all mock hurt and sad eyes. âfrom me? â but then her lips quirked into a wicked smile. âyouâve got me there: the drama is half the fun.â it truly was, but that didnât stop cecilia from being absolutely blown over. âso is it someone from work?â she paused. âwait, is it someone you met in a coffee shop? darling, thatâs adorable in the movies, but itâs just not practical.â not knowing something drove her crazy. absolutely mental. but oddly enough, adam lookedâŚhappy. âand most importantly: when am i going to meet her?!âÂ
âNo, no, it is theirs.â And it was something that Adam certainly wouldnât forget as his career progressed. He didnât forget, and he was definitely hard-pressed to forgive. âSadly not this time. It was all far too tacky and there werenât enough antiques to sway me. âYou should have seen this glass fish that was on offer - simply hideous! It was just,â he grimaced. âtoo many colours. Like does it really need to be half the colours of the rainbow?â
âYes, even from you. I have to bide my time, after all.â Drawing out the reveal was far too much fun, and he hoped he could keep it going a little while longer. Of course, Cecilia was more than welcome to guess who it was, and Adam certainly wouldnât deny it if she guessed correctly, but he wasnât exactly going to be forthcoming with her name. âNo, it wasnât someone I met in a coffee shop - who do you think I am? A fling, perhaps, but I donât think anything serious would come of that kind of meet cute.â He shrugged, deliberately ignoring the first question about his mystery woman. âThereâs no need for you to be introduced if you already are acquainted with her.â
