Wandering. The past few days, Everena had done nothing else than wandering. Even when her feet turned sore and her whole body ached, she kept on wandering.
She had to find her, after all. Her beloved sister who had left for Eorzea so many years ago. Now that the Raen was here herself, there had to be any clue of Shaliel. It couldn’t be that her sister just vanished from the face of Hydaelyn like that.
Even all the leads that Everena had, the letters, the names of her sister’s friends in the free company. None of them lined up. No one knew about them, no matter how far the girl went, no matter who she asked.
Should she return home? Back to her peaceful island on the furtherst part of the Ruby Sea? But how could she without her sister? With the person who had cared about her the most? Surely Everena’s parents were to make a scene once she came back without Shaliel. Everena snuck out to Eorzea just like her sister so many years ago, after all. Although it was against the rules of the island’s chief.
No, there was no way for Everena to return. But where else should she go?
Before she knew it, her feet had brought her to the Quicksand. The place, where she had met wonderful people and friends. All of them were also gone now.
Why was she always left alone in the end?
Even though there was no one anymore who she could turn to, the careless chatter and scent of the Quicksand was still something, she felt like home here in Eorzea.
Yet, today, something was different. There was a scent she did not recognize. Something sweet that made her stomach turn. It somehow smelled familiar. As if it had been haunting her the past few days.
But that surely was her imagination.
The Quicksand was so lovely today. People were so happy. Some were even decorated with beautiful flowers. Yet, Everena didn’t even manage to stay for something to eat.
As quickly as possible, she retired to her inn room. But the scent followed and stayed with her, even when she carelessly threw her bow and quiver into a corner and fell down on the bed.
It was such a stifling scent. Still, somehow it reminded her of her island of her origin. And with that smell in her nose, it felt like it asked her over and over, why she was all alone, carrying those thoughts into her dreams.
