Hey there!

“I’ve got you and you’ve got me. Always.”

I managed to finish this before s8 dropped! It took a lot of time and energy, but I’m happy with it. 

It’s been a bumpy road, and I’ve fallen off time and time again but gotten back on. These boys have been a comfort, a dream, and no matter what tomorrow yields, their energy, and connection is stronger than anything. If not in this universe, in many others they are destined for each other. No matter what form they take, or what they face. 

I have a more general vld pic planned but it’ll probably wait til after s8 because I’m so drained from working on this one. 

Lance over the coms: Who am I aiming for?

Keith: The guy with the cauliflower face.

Hunk and Pidge: ?????

Lance, immediately: Got it.

Lance, during a meeting: And then she attacked us with that- *makes some hand gestures*

Keith: Crossbow.

Lance: Right and the flaming thingy-

Keith: Magma launcher.

Lance, nodding: -came at us from the Lego Tower-

Keith, nodding as well: It did kinda look like that!

Everyone else: …

Keith, gossiping idly while on break: Did you see that dude at the convention?

Lance, not looking up from his phone: The one who looked like a smooshed turtle but was kinda happy about it?

Keith, nodding: Yeah frick. He kept staring at me.

Allura, glancing over at Hunk and Pidge as the other two continue to gossip: ??

Hunk and Pidge: No idea.

Lance, giving out instructions: So we’re gonna circle around by the Lion King lookin rock and jump down on the Squidward guys holding the Nerf guns and take out any remaining sentient pie-dudes while we’re at it. Got it?

Keith: Sounds good.

Lance: Have you seen my-

Keith: By the table in the kitchen.

Hunk, watching Lance run off: He didn’t even finish. How do you know-

Lance, from the kitchens: Found it!

Keith, at dinner: Hey Lance can you pass the-

Lance, handing over the salt without a word:

Keith: Thanks. And also-

Lance, passing him a napkin:

Keith: and-

Lance, smiling now as he gives Keith an extra fork:

Keith, smiling back: Thanks.

Shiro as he watches the entire exchange: Bruh…

Hunk: Yeah. Scary right?

Pidge, standing next to Lance: What..?

Lance, grinning: He wants a hug.

Pidge: How do you-

Pidge, watching Keith fall forward into Lance’s now open arms: Oh nevermind.

Keith, making another small noise:

Pidge: …and that?

Lance, red faced but beaming: That one means you might wanna leave unless you’re down to see some PDA.

notes: i started writing for a different prompt and then it turned into…this. idk what this is but there is kissing in it, and that’s really all that matters, isn’t it?

This wasn’t how Keith wanted it to be.

He had this idea, for a long time, that he wouldn’t ever confess to Lance and he was fine with that. Content, even. A crush didn’t have to change things. He just wanted to bask in the light that came off Lance, because it shone so warm and good, and that was enough. As long as they could be friends, Keith was fine with that.

He was.

Until he wasn’t.

Until the feeling in his chest became so dense and heavy with want he could feel it draped over him like a cloak in every one of his waking moments. (Even in some of his sleeping ones.)

Until the word crush became less sufficient and love crawled it’s way inside of his mouth and made it’s home there. (It tasted sweet and warmed him like coffee and Keith didn’t know what it was like to be cold anymore.)

Until Lance’s light became scorching, setting fire to his blood so easily - too easily - with casual, friendly touches. (He’d never wanted to stay before. Lance made him want to stay, even when he couldn’t.)

It’s nearly sunset, and the whole group is gathered around a campfire on the beach. It’s so terribly mundane after everything they’ve been through that it almost doesn’t seem real.

Keith isn’t paying much attention to anyone in particular; he and Pidge are cross-legged in the sand with a bag of snacks shared between them. Her focus is down at the tablet in her lap, but he has his arms wrapped around his middle, staving off the cold, as he admires the way the waning sunlight smolders on the water. Lance was right; in all the galaxies they’ve seen, there’s nothing out there quite like Earth’s ocean.

Lance approaches in bare feet and crouches down in front of Keith with one of his sparkling smiles, his hair tousled from the salt spray and the wind. “Hey, will you walk back to the car to get my jacket with me?” he asks, his expression brimming with boyish charm.

Keith just looks at him for a moment, admires the way that Lance has come alive since they’ve been here and then nods. Lance’s grin grows wider, and there’s something mischievous about the expression, but Keith stands regardless, brushing the sand from the back of his pants. “Yeah. I’m getting a little cold, too.” He glances down at Pidge. “We’ll be right back.”

Lance scoffs as he grabs Keith’s hand. “Aww, Keith, don’t make any promises you can’t keep.”

In retrospect, even Lance will have to admit that he’d been incredibly dense about his relationship with Keith.

“Keith and I aren’t dating,” he says into the phone, curled up on his couch with his knees tucked to his chest and socked feet hidden beneath the throw blanket. It’s snowing pretty heavily outside, the window a blur of white, and he’s been worried for the past hour whether or not Keith’s making it through the storm all right.

“Very funny Lance,” Allura drawls from the other side. Lance could practically see the way she inspects her nails with the most exasperated roll of her eyes. He flaps his arms emphatically in response.  

“We’re not!”

“Lance, you were just telling me how you went to the movies with him yesterday.”

“Yeah, but that’s what we always do!”

“You kissed him goodnight?” 

“On the cheek!!”
