THE STORY GOES..........
It was deep autumn with a biting cold in the air when Diane was seen small and shivering and naked next to Diane, again, fully clothed just outside of her house, when Mr and Mrs Worms screamed and more than half of the houses on the cul-de-sac emptied their homes and scuttled onto the streets to see what had happened. The other half (or being specific, just less than a half) of Golden Trout Road poured to their windows to see what the kerfuffle was and pressed up against the glass so hard that hundreds of tiny, microscopic cracks formed that day from nosiness.
Diane (small, shivering, naked) looked around gawkishly.
Mr Worms hovered exactly at the front door of the house, unsure of whether this moment was a dream or a trick of the light and couldn’t figure out whether he would be better off hovering more inside the house or outside of the house in the cold. This uncertainty is what kept him exactly at the front door of the house, helped maintain his precision.
Mrs Worms became a mess of exploding complicated movements from the second she ran out of breath like she had suffered a punch in the gut from her unexpected scream. The scream ended and the hoarseness could already be heard through the unfiltered noises trying to comprehend what she was exactly seeing in front of her. Diane (small, shivering, naked) and Diane (fully clothed); attempting to solve the never before heard of issue of two Dianes. After her long string of noises, Mrs Worms wobbled forward to grab the both of them, pulling off her jumper to reveal just a beige bra underneath it. She pulled the woolly jumper over Diane (small, shivering, naked) and screamed for her husband to come and help her get the girls inside.
MORE SPECIFICALLY..........
INFO
identical twins, diane and elizabeth worms are born 6th march 1999. within an hour of their delivery, one of them goes missing. we’ll say this was elizabeth. cctv cameras are checked but there’s no trace of the newborn. unfortunately, mr and mrs worms have go home with only one of their baby girls, diane, and start her life with a loss. years and years go on with no sign of elizabeth (lizzy, she’s called in memory) but diane loves her sister. lonely as an only child and in her room, she’s playing with her constantly. lizzy is quiet, content, and follows diane’s plans with a smile on her face because diane comes up with the best games and her and lizzy share a brain. lizzy is very much real but only in that she is a clone of diane and always was; elizabeth didn’t go missing, baby diane simply stopped replicating herself - replicating herself as a newborn is very difficult for a long period of time. hell, baby diane doesn’t even know she’s doing it. diane continues playing with her for longer periods of time as she practices her replication powers and keeps it private until she’s nine and doesn’t get rid of her clone before her parents see her and realise the long lost lizzy is back, the other twin they absolutely do not know is just diane 2.0. they scream, ask how did she get here? is it really lizzy? how did she find them again? diane is tongue tied with no answers, lizzy doesn’t say a word. she seems like a void of a person. all light leaves her eyes for a few hours and she sits on the sofa and that’s all. in the other room, all evening, they ask diane to repeat her story over and over. she’s much obliged. i was wandering on the street, i saw my face and knew it was her. that was our lizzy. i invited her home. that’s the story she sticks to. the light comes back into lizzy’s eyes but she still doesn’t speak. there’s panic for years trying to find out what happened to lizzy until mr and mrs worms decide that’s fine, their lizzy is back which is more than they ever thought. diane spends the next few years exhausted. the only time she can let up on her clone and get a breath is when they’re alone and she can be alone. all of this practice does wonders for her skill set, though, and eventually her replicas become easier for her to create, to manoeuvre. she can do more for them. more for lizzy. she gives her a personality, eventually she can have her speak, too. when the tiredness of projecting kicks in, she paints lizzy out as a rebel without a cause that picks petty arguments with their parents and storms off into the night just so she doesn’t have to exist for a few hours. the façade of a troublesome sister or a sister at all is interesting and plays nicely into diane getting peace and quiet when she wants it, or, when she needs it, a get out of jail free card when lizzy can take the blame for anything diane does.
