eve. it's like a name and a title in one.

Kelsie’s eyes were immediately drawn to Jamie.  She smiled at the little boy, wiggling her fingers out of pure instinct.  It made her happy to see him but it also hurt.  “You are an enabler,” Kelsie teased Evie.  She smiled at her before glancing back at the cookies.  Maybe one wouldn’t hurt.  “You think?  I guess I’ll give in.  What’s the worst that could happen if I have one cookie?  Unless you can recommend something equally as tempting.”

“Sex with a redhead but I’m still going to say the cookie right now.” She insisted, because even if her baby daddy were to walk in just then, while her body would be like yes please, the rest of her still wanted that cookie. “I am but a mere god enabling, yes. You acn have what would have been his cookie.”

“Dude, right? How sick would that be?” He agreed. The dog shifted from licking her fingers to sniffing them, tail wagging excitedly. He shrugged softly as Evelyn ignored his question about the university, but figured it was fine because the succubus stuff was far more interesting than the school his dropped out of. “Wait, it just happens? Isn’t that kind of creepy though, like weird dudes following you around as like, a kid? Or wait, it’s preteens, right?” He asked for clarification. His mind flashed to that book from high school Lolita. “Or please tell me it’s like, sixteen. Or something. Something less pedo-y?”

“Erm, perhaps, I don’t think there an age minimum.  It just happens. It’s not a long period of time, only a day, but still. I do have people follow me home sometimes so I had to start taking other ways there but I’ve never thought about it that way, ‘spose it is a wee bit pedo-y..” She frowned, giving it a real good thinking over. Eamonn had never explained it like that, they were just supposed to harness their power and use it over others, that was the entire point of it. Their power came from taking it from others and exploiting the enthral but Evelyn was still very much about consent when it came down to it and as well as they were age of consent then well.. sort of fair game then?

       “I can imagine, I should probably stop complaining huh?” Lincoln flashed a grin, playful but not impolite by any stretch of the imagination. He gave a greeting nod thereafter to Evelyn and put his paperwork down. “Oh, yeah I can see how those can get like that. Sometimes in a sleep deprived state, I think the word ‘and’ is pretty strange. Just three letters yet really crucial to use.” he laughed before gesturing to the seat in front of him. “If you don’t have any papers to read, feel free to join me. I could do with the distraction.”

“Not at all. Complain away. It’s how we make the most of our ays, hmm?” Nodding along as she thought about it, he was right actually. And was a very strange word and especially when the mind was tired, it just didn’t look right. “I’ve got nothing on the desk today, I may have pawned it off on some peope, the life of a Dean.”

“Yeah, they pick up on stuff. Like, some animals even know when a storm is coming, how wild!” Tae replied, nodding. “It’s funny, because I was like, ‘oh, maybe he won’t like her’ but then I was like ‘well, wait, maybe her powers will like, seduce him like he’s a person’ and then I thought how gross that’d be, I don’t know,” he said with a laugh. In all honesty, animals he had seen weren’t huge fans of vampires. However, he didn’t know many incubi or succubi. Maybe the animals could be seduced, maybe they were immune? As the pup curiously licked Evelyn’s fingers, Tae decided it wasn’t trying to hump anyone’s leg anytime soon. Thank god. “How are things going at the ol’ uni these days?”

“They’re very smart and their level of empathy for others is off the charts and I wish I could tell when a storm was coming..” She joked, though honestly she did wish that. So, so many parts of her garden might not end up getting hit by hail that way. “I’m not sure it would work like that, to be honest, then again I have no control over the enthral. It just happens and in any direction. Could hit one person could hit dozens.” Reaching up with her other hand, Evelyn scratchd the animal gently behin th ear as he kept licking her fingers. “He’s a lovely start though,  maybe Jamie will do well with animals once he’s introduced, although he might slobber on them more than they will on him. He’s a bit of a messy kisser.”

The dog leaned partially out of Tae’s arms to inquisitively sniff Eve’s hand. The wagging tail slowed with curiosity and Tae recognized the black irises Eve had. “Yeah. I used to have the animal communication thing, so these little dudes used to love me. Looks like I still got it,” he chuckled softly, missing his coven ability. It felt good to be connected to something not as destructive as fire. The dog’s tongue flicked out across Evelyn’s fingers quickly and Tae chuckled. “Hey, looks like you do too. Don’t want to sound like, an asshole, but I wasn’t sure how he’d be. You know?”

“I’ve always had a way with people but animals? Not so much. They know there’s something different, maybe they can sense my enthral.” Evelyn giggled softly as the small tongue brushed her fingers, tickling her. She wasn’t used to animals warming up so fast and it was nice. Maybe if she could find an animal that could warm to Jamie when he was young, she’d get him one. “Can’t know until you try, that’s my motto. Or at least what I tell the students anyway.” 

       Sprawled out paperwork across a coffee table, his laptop set up at an organised angle giving him enough room to take notes in his large notepad. The confines of his office only ever distracted him more than allowing him to focus, so this was a usual scene. Escaping for a window seat and usually spending most of the afternoons focusing on his work while drinking the coffee shop out of house and home. This particular case he was working on had mind numbed him beyond recognition, and was the source for most of his sleepless nights. Holding a piece of paperwork close to his face, Lincoln mumbled under his breath before speaking out loud to nobody in particular. “Do you ever read a word so often it doesn’t even look like a word?” he rambled. “Project. Project…pro…ject. Jeckt.”

“I read so many papers in a day I'm not sure how I’ve any brain left but being Dean will do that. It never stops,” Evelyn frowned, knowing it was the fate she’d chosen for herself. She did enjoy it but the paperwork... If only it would end. Even switching to the technological world hadn’t helped any, it just changed formats for some things. “The ones that get me very late at night are “unfortunately” and “advise.” She admitted. 

“Devil Done Right, correcto…” He said, his memory jogging when she relayed the now deep-fried order to him. “And your Done Right, do you want it Well-done?” He asked, pushing his brows up and down at the word play. He scribbled down her order quickly before smiling back up at her. “Coming in instead of ordering delivery. What’s the special occasion?”

“The bloodier the better please.” She and her vampire cousins could get on in that sense anyway. “Ah well it’s all Hallows Eve, wanted to get him out a bit before he gets into his costume and since this is his first introduction to solid food, so to speak, if he rejects then it’s not me cleaning it up off the curtains and just a table instead.” 

Grace laughed when she saw the woman doing that.  “Was that a hex bag?” Grace asked as her eyebrow rose.  “I didn’t pick you and your Pooh wearing baby to be a prankster duo.  Color me surprised,” Grace told her while watching, an almost approving smirk on her lips.

“Might be.” She started, continuing to pretend to look innocent though it was clear the both of them knew what was about to happen here. “Now, now. There’s pranking and there’s outright vandalism. This was vandalism,  this woman wins every year apparently and I’m not about to let that happen now that I’m here.”

Chloe jumped back a little bit, unsure of what Evelyn was even doing. She just stared at her not-so-innocent look and her little boy who, she had to admit, was the most adorable looking Winnie the Pooh she had ever seen. “What isn’t what it looks like?” she asked, clearly confused.

Perfect. She was clueless. “Nothing. The contest will be starting soon and we were simply snooping about to see what the competition was up to. Jamie was being lookout, though clearly he’s much more Winnie and less bear tonight.”

“Ugh, I’m jealous,” he scoffed, throwing his head back in jealousy. “Sometimes i wish I had lived in those days. The fashion, the food. The only problem would be all of the witch hunts. I’m too flamboyant about my magic to hide from them.”

“I miss the fashion, the food? Not so much. Spices are a wonder of the modern world after all. There might only be slight differences between my vampiric cousins and myself but I do still need to breathe so the corset was not a great thing for any woman with... assets.” Evelyn trailed off, hopefully not needed to explain. With time she did come to love the corset and did stil have many of the ones she had back then but those were for special occasions now.

It had been centuries since Amari felt sick.  She was a vampire.  She was immune to so many human ailments that she nearly forgot what it was like to be ill.  Until everything simply felt wrong.  She was nauseous, clammy, her head was spinning and she couldn’t figure out why.  She was dead.  She shouldn’t have been able to even get sick.  Suddenly feeling lightheaded, Amari grabbed onto someone’s arm to keep from falling over.  This weakness…it wasn’t something she was used to.  “Sorry,” she mumbled.

Evie had been strolling through the streets with her bow strapped to her back, curls even tighter than normal when she’d spied her. Amari looked like shit quite frankly and she wasn’t the only one from what she could tell by glancing around, a sea of people looking ashen and clammy. People who shouldn’t be capable of that. So it wasn’t a surprise to her when Amari grabbed her arm and Evelyn threw her other one around the woman’s waist to steady her. “Don’t apologize dear, you look awful.”
