Rei found Shinjiâs help in the store very helpful, because she had never stepped foot in a clothing store in her whole âlifeâ. Commader Ikari has always seen to it that she had a couple of school uniforms, and one casual outfit. Rei has never much cared for fashion, but now that they were in this store, she seemed to finding a newfound liking to the articles of clothing. Shinji helped guide her to what clothes to buy, but Rei picked out most of the clothes herself, surprising herself.
Rei picked out a few outfits she found cute, and Shinji guided her to the dressing rooms. Rei looked over at Shinji in confusion, and he explained, with a light blush on his face, that you used the rooms when you wanted to try on clothes. Rei nodded her head, and Shinji left her in one of the rooms, telling her he would be in the menâs section of clothing.
Rei tried on the dress she had picked out first. She put it on, and then turned around to look at herself in the mirror. She smiled to herself, and twirled around in it a bit, enjoying how it swayed when she turned. Rei took this off and tried on the other two outfits she had picked out, a simple jean and t-shirt attire, and a skirt and blouse. Rei decided she would get all of them. Rei slipped the dress on again, tearing off the tag so she could wear the dress out.
She stepped out of the room with a smile on her face, holding all the clothes close to her. She looked around for Shinji when she spotted him coming out of a room opposite hers.
âShinji, I have decided to get these clothes,â Rei said, motioning to the clothes in her arms, âHave you decided on what you are getting?â
Shinji jumped a bit at Rei's voice due to the fact that he was lost in his own thoughts. He turned towards her and simply answered,"No I haven't really seen anything that I'd like just by looking." He wasn't really in the mood to shop for himself actually. He'd rather have Rei look nice and pretty instead of himself. Besides, he didn't have the best fashion sense either.
Shinji stood up from where he was sitting and offered Rei a hand with the clothing that she had picked out and she handed him a few. They both walked up to the cash registrar and Rei asked Shinji one more time if he was sure he wasn't going to buy anything. He reassured her that he  didn't see anything that he could see himself wearing. They grabbed the bags and the cashier waved goodbye, said thank you and to come by again.
They were out of the store and the sun has set a bit, so it was a pink-ish orange outside. Shinji sighed and out his hands into his pockets.
"Today was a good day, don't you think so Ayanami?"
