What, what, what? An orphan had wandered into her bar, then? Meiko frowned, eyeing him up and down. Was he lying? Outside of the usual child grubbiness, he was awfully well-dressed and clean for an orphan.
"'Cause we serve alcohol." Did he even know what that was? She shook her head. "Adult drinks. Not meant fer kids."
Damn. What was she going to do with this kid? She'd feel bad if she turned him out.
"...But ye can stay, if ye promise tae behave."
"Al-go-hawl?"
He looked up at Navi, who was now inspecting the bottles behind the counter, her little fairy wings silently beating. She turned to meet his gaze, giving him an 'I told you so' look.
"I didn't come here to drink that," Link said as if to prove that he wasn't about to misbehave. Anyway, it was the truth. He'd just been curious, and his question was... sort of answered.
"But do you have any drinks for kids then?" A man delivering milk in a wagon had given him a ride into town, but that had been ages ago when the sun was still up. He hadn't drank anything since, not even when he ate at the food stall.
"It'll cost rupees, remember?" Navi's high-pitched voice cut through as she floated back to perch on his shoulder. Oh. Right. He needed to pay for things. Link looked back at the tall lady (why was she so tall?) and shook his head.
"Never mind, it's okay. I don't have a way to pay for drinks anyway." The only things he had were a few Deku Nuts, his sword and shield (which he needed), and the Kokiri Emerald that could only be given to Princess Zelda.
