Chapter 1: It’s Electric
Victor scurries to grab his briefcase and vaults through his open skylight, snapping it shut behind him midair. He flies toward the city, soaring above the surrounding towns each sealed from the next by colossal gates, custom-built systems designed to regulate and protect their respective cities.
His face is shadowed with worry.
The roar of millions of EyEs reaches him before he lands.
The Royal Vox Concourse stretches endlessly below a sea of bodies all turned toward the throne. Space King sits high above them in a massive chair, larger than the man himself, finishing his address.
Victor lands near the back of the crowd and immediately drops to one knee, snapping open his briefcase. Metal rods unfold and lock together in his hands with practiced speed.
“Hey!” a guard shouts, rushing toward him. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
“I have a presentation for the king,” he says without looking up.
“Pack that shit back up buddy. The window’s closed. We’re done for today.”
Victor pauses “oh, that’s too bad” as he starts to slowly disassemble the device.
The guard grunts and starts to walk away.
Very quickly, Victor reassembles the structure. A towering tripod snaps into place with a sharp metallic clang. The sound ripples through the crowd.
Silence follows.
The guard starts to charge in his direction
Space King leans forward, amused.
“It’s fine,” he says. “Let’s see what this is.”
