I think taking time off is incredibly important. We need time to reflect, i feel creatively we go in cycles of producing work and unless you take time to reflect and think about what youāve done, itās inevitably easy to repeat your ideas, or even struggle to produce new ones. This is also why itās so important to travel and immerse yourself in new cultures and even unfamiliar circumstances to trigger new emotions and ideas.

God, make me so dependent on you that I canāt move or breathe without eating your Word every single day.
I am learning that at times there is a cost to worship. It is easy to give thanks when everything is neatly in place. It is simple to raise your hands when you have two arms that are fully functional. But when you have to crawl to the altar and you do it anyway, when your body is broken and you stand anyway, when your voice is hoarse from crying yet you sing anyway, that is when worship becomes an offering. It is called the sacrifice of praise. It is both brokenness and beauty when we hobble our beat-up hearts into the throne room of our King. There we pour out all that we have. There we receive all that He is.

2016 Election
I woke up to a text from my sister with headlines: NIGHTMARE: Donald Trump is the next President of the United States.
I was in absolute disbelief. Shocked. Confused. My heart literally dropped and all I felt was my soul grieving for this nation. I wasnāt really following the elections too closely or anything, but I was still confident that America would not really vote for Trump. I was mostly shocked at my fellow Americans. How can they vote for someone who makes racial comments, gropes women, and knows absolutely nothing about leading a country?? I am not a political expert but I am still in complete shock. This whole day felt like a dream. A chaotic one. I felt the sadness and grief of this country. As I started to get fearful and anxious, I asked God what he was up to. Although I canāt understand AT ALL why Trump is our president, it is still all part of His glorious plan. Even though I and many others feel like our country is hopeless now, I choose to believe that our God is greater and that He is in FULL control.Ā
What will be our response? In the night, I literally thought, what do we do?? Do we leave this country? Do we protest? Is someone playing a sick joke on us? What do we do? I realized that our instinct as humans, is to immediately think about ourselves. We say those āIām leaving this countryā comments so that we donāt have to deal with this mess. We donāt want to take ownership of being in a country thatās led by a crazy ______. Iāve read hateful comments on fb, people crying and grieving, some lashing out in anger, some still in shock, but mostly, confusion.Ā I donāt think Iāve ever seen our nation as a whole so confused and in a state of panic. Even though America has become pretty anti-God the past couple years, I sensed a deep cry for help. My heart just breaks when I think about this because there is no hope but in Jesus Christ. Even me, as I saw my own response, I felt anxious, fearful, confused, and hopeless. But I caught myself and thought, but I believe in God so why the heck am I freaking out. I really believe more than anything right now, this country needs prayer. And thatās what we are called to do as believers. Not āleave the countryā but stand and pray. I donāt believe in Trump, nor did I in Hilary, but I do believe in God who is above all politics and government. If I truly believe in a God, in Jesus, then I have no reason to freak out and nor do any believers. I think this really does test our faith and trust in him, when it feels absolutely hopeless. But we know the Bible always talks about hope. Not hope in this world, but hope in Jesus Christ. I donāt want to waste my time sitting here freaking out, when I know my Father has everything under control.Ā
Throughout the day, I kept getting the word response. What will our response be? As Christians? As people who believe in God, what should our reaction be? How do we handle this confusion and anger that may come when we think about Trump as president? To me, I truly want to respond with love. That even if none of this makes sense to me, I am called to love. Even Trump. So here I pray on his behalf and for this country, that God gives him wisdom and direction for the days ahead. And just hope for Americans that God is still God and he has not forsaken us. I have nothing to fear for my Father is with me. No matter how scary and uncertain things may look now, I hold onto Christ, the solid rock on which I stand.Ā
We went through a season with a lot of tension. We like to say that without tension, you canāt make music. You take the tension out of any instrument and it doesnāt sing anymore. Tension is really beautiful if you know the One who is allowing the tension. Heāll never allow the tension to get so tight that it breaks you.

Cageless Birds

I love this image of birds because they look so free and fearless. They are simply doing what they were created to do. Recently, Iāve been finding so much freedom in Godās word. It is so liberating and satisfying that something inside of me just wants to pour out to something greater and higher than I. God pours in and we pour out. Itās because of his faithfulness, his love, his grace, that we are faithful, loving, and gracious. All we are is a simple response to what Heās doing/done for us.
So many times do we act like caged birds, with no purpose and direction in life. We sit there wasting away, clipping our own wings, when God has already set us free. The only way we can free ourselves is to remind ourselves of the gospel daily. The gospel so easily becomes numb to us but if we believe in Him, we know that the gospel holds immense power. The power of God is living in those words and they are able to transform and renew hearts and minds. I am free because apart from Jesus, there is nothing I can do to inherit eternal life. Itās always been and will be about Jesus. Every moment I lean on myself, I am stripping away my own freedom and chaining myself to fleshly desires. But when I grasp the reality that we were created to worship and be in relationship with our Father, I experience true healing, forgiveness, and freedom. Many times when we canāt have it our way, we see that as God taking away our freedom, but itās exactly the opposite. The way we were created is that we will always have a deep longing, emptiness, if not filled with Christ.Ā
So everyday, I ask God to reveal to me HIS truth rather than my own wisdom or understanding. I want to experience true freedom everyday because thatās whatās available for us when we say yes to him!
