had to share this
In every way this is set up to be a joke like any other short video, it even uses the trope of main character in a wig to represent their mom, but it isn't funny at all. It's just sweet and nice
(i attempt the trick where the peasant leans down and kisses the ring off the nobleman's finger) (my mouth is a distinct square shape when i stand back up) yore majethty
genuinely I'm so sick of people wanting all fiction to be ethical. can we all just get a little gross with it. the point of fiction is that it's not real. we can be unethical in fiction; same goes with being perverted with fiction, being unrealistic with fiction, and being grotesque with fiction. not all fiction has to be ethical, not every character has to be ethical, and that's okay. can we stop with the puritanism. be gross. be unrealistic. be whatever. if I don't like it it's not my business as long as we're all clear that its fictional.
via ered.bsky.social, the only kinds of unethical fiction:
people in the replies are going "what about books glorifying unethical things" and "what if it's propaganda" and you, my friends, are who this comic was made for

op disabled reblogs but I think the point still stands
reminder that the books themselves also suck ass actually. there's an entire plotline endorsing slavery. the one character who advocates to end slavery is bullied and made fun of. the one slave who doesnt like being enslaved is bullied and treated as an outcast. the bankers are the picture of racist stereotypes of jewish people. the one asian character is named fckn Cho Chang. the worldbuilding SUCKS. fuck harry potter and fuck rowling. stop giving her your money.
the poor must eat. if the government picks our pockets to please the rich and we can no longer buy food, then we must eat the rich.

I wish there were a better way to talk about some hot button issues without pushing the hot button.
"The bus stops on my route are usually full of people freebasing, so if the weather's bad, people waiting for the bus end up standing in the rain."
Oh, so you think they should just go to jail? That addicts deserve to suffer?
"No, but now we don't have functional shelters for people using transit, which discourages use. It's two problems."
Or someone in a local subreddit was asking what resources were available because someone in their apartment building was having a mental health crisis. This involved screaming racial slurs into the poster's door at all hours, vandalizing their car, and leaving them letters about how they knew the poster had bugs/spies in their apartment and various threats if they didn't "stop".
Most of the responses were "The police would probably just shoot them" and "Actually mentally ill people more likely to be *victims* of violence than to cause it", which is all well and good. But I also don't think that the person asking should have to live with someone screaming racial slurs into their door at 2AM or vandalizing their car? Again, we have 2 problems here.
This:
This.
I got this from a former therapist, no less. I had been working from a coffee shop and a man came in, yelling about *bitches* and swearing at the girls behind the counter. He had a walking stick that he was pounding on the floor and at one point started hitting the counter with it.
He was between me and the door, it was stressful, and when he moved, I got myself out of there.
And I was talking to my therapist about it (I was seeing her for some pretty intense anxiety and PTSD (as in my doctor was like ‘your cortisol levels are at like active-combat-deployment levels, we gotta get those down’)), about how a day later I was still jittery about it.
And she gave me the “don’t be judgmental, most mentally ill people are harmless,” and I was like “lady, this one was ranting about women and BRANDISHING A WEAPON, I’m not going to stick around and wait to find out whether he’s actually harmless.”
And I think there’s a key component there that we don’t know how to talk about:
- most mentally ill people are harmless and more likely to be victims of harm
AND
- some forms of mental illness can cause people to behave in ways that seem threatening because they resemble what a person who doesn’t have that form of mental illness might do if they were in the grip of the sort of overwhelming anger that has a significant chance of becoming violence
Like, in general, if a human being starts screaming at you, you are in danger, and all the At A Population Level statistics in the world don’t make being afraid in that situation irrational, and unless you have training in handling crisis situations, you should probably get yourself away from them if possible or call someone for help if you can’t.
Mentally Ill People are often unfairly demonized and they can threaten harm to others are not contradictions.
also, we should be having the expectation that communities provide adequate resources to safely help people experiencing a mental health crisis rather than demonize untrained citizens for not feeling safe or comfortable being that resource when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis.
i don't want to vilify the person experiencing a mental health emergency, but I also don't think it's my responsibility to be the first responder by virtue of proximity regardless of my own level of experience and preparedness to play that role. we cannot pretend those are the only two choices, because just ridiculous.
i don’t “follow” my favorite bands. i just get pleasantly surprised when i find out that they released an album 2 months ago.

Quilt guild president: the summer quilt challenge. As you know it is the 250th anniversary-
Guild: -chilly silence-
President: so the challenge to you all is a quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current “democracy”
Guild: 👏👏👏
President: I know this bunch. I am sure you will come up with something spectacular, and it will probably get angrier as the summer progresses. Full quilt, mini quilt. Go wild, release some emotions.
How I spent my July 4th.
Appliqué almost done. Then onward to the background stitching
At the start I thought stitching “fuck you I won’t do what you tell me” for the last quarter would be therapeutic
I was correct.
Close to finishing the top. Now I gotta figure out how I want to quilt it.
I have one more line of embroidery and I think it needs to be bolder and messier than I started it.
Hard to tell in this light, and without ironing it, that the embroidery does get gradually bolder as it goes. Two strands at the top versus 5 at the bottom (6 for the started to be redone final line).
Not bad for first time doing appliqué.
Still need to decide how I want to quilt it.

Realizing that I am not employing enough of my free will to become a nuisance at work
Me watching this:
I’m not letting this rot in the tags
i dont think whites understand how being white makes literally everything easier.
it effects everything.
being trans is easier when youre white.
being gay is easier when youre white.
being disabled is easier when youre white.
being a woman is easier when youre white.
being autistic is easier when youre white.
oppression is eased when you are white, as you get extra privileges, and your whiteness is seen as a positive characteristic that in some ways counter-balances your other forms of being a minority. whiteness controls everything.
you are automatically way more innocent in your own oppression as a gay, trans, disabled person because of your whiteness.
never forget this.
three things:
1. it’s true
2. white people get pissed when i bring this up/wear this shirt
3. the comments to this thread melted my fucking eyeballs seriously why the fuck are y’all like this
white people you don’t need to say you’re white when you reblog this btw. you don’t even need to mention it btw
