I've heard he doesn't want to write it anymore but wants it to continue so hopefully he'll just let someone else take over and we get a next generation.
I would love a next generation of Fairy Tail, however, I don't want it. I love the original story of Fairy Tail and most aspects of it. While it isn't perfect, nothing is. However, 100 year quest has caused some detachement and I think Mashima feels it too. I am ready for something new like Edens Zero with the same amount of whimsy that gets me excited to read the next chapter. That makes my heart ache the same way Fairy Tail and Edens Zero did. But there will never be *another* Fairy Tail. And I feel thats what Next Generation would try and become. I don't see it trying to be its own thing. Sure it would be amazing to see their children grow and learn magic and go on jobs. But it wont be the same feeling as the original. It wont have the same feeling as being introduced to a new world. I'm not against Next Generation entirely. I feel there are so many different routes to explore especially in the parenthood department, but I don't think it would be done justice. I would love to see the kids learn their parents magic and train. To go back to the small jobs we used to have at the start of the series. I would love a new big bad. But at the same time, I'm okay with imagining that for myself.
