Genre: Fantasy. Faerie!Bangtan x Reader
Summary: MC is a reverse changeling with plastic memories. When the Seelie king is on his deathbed, and a blight begins to taint the court, the next in line sends his favorite sirens to fetch her, the princess of Summer, to cure their land.
Pairing: TBD, probably either Jungkook x Reader x Jimin or Yoongi x Reader, as much as I would personally like her to end up with Tae
Do you believe? In Magic? In Faeries?
Do you dream? Of plush clouds? Of secret gardens?
...To the Land Under the Hill…
(Y/N) shot up from her bed in a cold sweat, her downy white coverlet strewn haphazardly across her thin frame and crumpled bed sheets, her pillows askew. It was not the first nightmare she had had this week. As a matter of fact, she had been plagued with dreams of blight, corrupt lullabies, and shattered crowns for months; the nightmares increasing in frequency the past week. In an attempt to soothe her pounding heart, she glanced out her bedroom window to the backyard of the small cottage she had lived in solitude within since she was twelve―nearly six years ago. The way the sun’s rays, scattered through the billowing clouds, painted the lush emerald grass of the hills had always cast her in serenity.
But there was something wrong with the sight in front of her. The thick wood at the end of her hills had always been eerily still, the small stream that ran into them, with water like diamonds, providing the only movement. Now, however, the brush seemed to dance in the breeze. A small shadow caught her attention, causing her eyes to dart toward the movement, her heart still racing. But it was just a rabbit, its plush brown ears pooled in the grass on either side, its pink nose twitching. There was something odd about the way the sunlight seemed to surround it in a golden glow, and she cocked her head in confusion. It seemed to return her curious stare before hopping away, disappearing into the brush, which was now still. Must have been my imagination, she thought, sighing and kicking her legs over the edge of the old bed.
(Y/N) spent the rest of the morning in her usual routine, a quick shower before a breakfast of eggs from the town market a few miles out and marmalade toast, before leaving the small stone cottage and settling herself on the hill with an old book, her worn white dress growing damp from the remaining dew. It wasn’t long before she’d dozed off, warmed by the sun’s golden caress.
The soft, angelic singing roused her. She looked around, trying to find where it came from. The sun was high in the sky, having passed its apex, indicating the evening was drawing near. She was about to chalk it up to being half asleep, when the melody hit her ears once more.
(Y/N) rose carefully, the gentle breeze disturbing a lock of long, fawn-colored hair. She found herself staring at the eerily still wood, the angelic voice seeming to beckon her.
Before she could think better of it, as if her bare feet were moving of their own accord, (Y/N) found herself walking towards the source of the singing, enthralled.
She stepped carefully through the brush, making her way into a small clearing filled with wildflowers. She glanced around, awed by the beauty of the sunlight streaming through the clouds and casting the meadow in golden streams. She spotted a weeping willow on the other side, its vines dancing in the breeze, and began moving towards it.
“Butterfly, like a Butterfly
마치 Butterfly, bu butterfly 처럼…”
(Y/N) moved the vines aside with her hand, a warm feeling coursing through her veins as she stepped behind them. But she found no tree at all. “W-What…?” She asked herself, speaking aloud in her shock. The sight that awaited her took her breath away. It was another field of wildflowers, but she had never seen these kind before. A small stream cut through the clearing, its water a translucent periwinkle, its gleam an iridescent lilac. The coloring of the entire world seemed off, as if it was cast in moonlight instead of the sun that shone overhead. When she looked up, she was surprised to see that, instead of the bright gold she was used to, this sun was a cool blue as it sat at its apex.
“Butterfly, like a Butterfly
마치 Butterfly, bu butterfly 처럼”
The young woman’s head shot in the direction of the voice. It was clearer now, despite retaining its dream-like quality, and louder. The voice’s owner was lounging against a large tree (Y/N) had not noticed before, a smile gracing his features when their eyes met. She no longer cared that the tree’s leaves were a peculiar shade of cerulean, nor that its trunk was silver. All she cared about was the gorgeous man in front of her. His brown hair sat perfectly atop his head, his flesh a smooth, fair caramel. While his cute, bunny-like smile disarmed her, his deep, umber eyes captivated her. She hadn’t even realized he’d approached her until she was gazing into them, his tall frame casting a shadow over her. Up close, she could see the dewy shine on his cheekbones, the sharp curve of his jaw despite his full cheeks, the subtle curves of his throat. She couldn’t remember having seen someone so beautiful in all her lifetime.
“Who are you?” She breathed, enthralled by his beauty.
“I am called Jungkook,” He spoke, his voice like a dream, ensnaring her further. “And you, (Y/N), must come with me to see the next King.”
“K-King?” (Y/N) stuttered, Jungkook’s hold on her slipping as her confusion settled in. “How… How do you know my name?”
“Come with me,” He smiled, answering none of her questions. His eyes betrayed a note of panic, nearly breaking the spell entirely.
A new voice sung, somewhere in the distance. Jungkook relaxed, watching as (Y/N) looked toward the source, her eyes glazed over once more. “Let us go,” He said, now, resting his hand on (Y/N)’s back and leading her easily to the sound of the voice that beckoned her.
(Y/N) would have forgotten Jungkook as she neared the new voice, like divine wind chimes, if it hadn’t been for his hand nestled in the small of her back as he gently lead her towards the singing.
She felt as though she were half awake; half in reality and half in a dream as the two of them kept walking, descending deeper, deeper, and deeper yet into the glowing woods with strange silver and gold barked trees and vibrant pink, lavender, and blue leaves. Some of them even had leaves of bronze or rose gold. The flowers that lined the narrow path were also odd, a cross between irises, lilies, and orchids, and always in shades of yellow and pink. Just before the peculiar plant life around them once again brought (Y/N) back to her senses, Jungkook answered the mysterious singer with a song of his own.
The girl looked over at him while her body continued to carry her to the other, her eyes glassy as she made an expression of awe. Jungkook couldn’t help but smile at her as he and the other siren hummed and harmonized, sealing (Y/N)’s captivation in place long enough to get her to their Prince.
It wasn’t long before Jimin had joined their journey, using both his dazzling looks and magical voice to ensnare the girl their Prince had requested so desperately to bring into his court of Summer. She was supposedly the cure to the blight that had appeared in their land, closer to Winter territory. Over the past couple months, it had spread, and was nearing the outskirts of where the majority of the court lived their lives. The two Sirens shared a look upon exiting the woods and entrance to the Seelie Court, ending their song the second their feet hit the cool stone of the Prince’s quarters.
(Y/N) found herself slowly awakening from her daze as her bare feet hit cool golden stone. She and the two men on either side of her stood on the edge of what appeared to be a courtyard, beautiful and peculiar people lounging on rich velvet cushions and billowing silks. If you could even call them people. Some had flesh in vibrant colors, with solid eyes and webbed hands and feet, some had the torsos of men and women but the legs and ears of dear, their faces only mostly human, and some looked like gorgeous, sinewy humans; all sharp angles and almost glittering skin, with hair in odd colors like teal and snowy white.
In the center of all of them lounged the most beautiful one of all. He had a golden circlet atop his lush, elegantly styled chocolate hair made from gilded leaves, a sun-shaped, diamond crest sitting comfortably on his forehead. He wore a white silk button-up that appeared to be too big tucked expertly into pale golden breaches, and was sitting comfortably atop a gilded throne. He was speaking with the three men standing near him, in similar clothing to himself. None of them wore circlets as he did, and instead of silk, their shirts seemed to be made of a sheer gauze. One was very tall and lean, his hair a pleasant orange color. Unlike the others milling around the court, he had soft features and a round face, his cheeks dimpling when he smiled. Another looked like an angel, with lush silver curls that seemed to cast additional shadows along his chiseled face and piercing blue eyes. The last one was slim, with auburn hair and a heart-shaped smile. As she was watching the four of them converse, what appeared to be a servant boy tapped the princely one on the shoulder. He smiled at him, graciously accepting a bottle of milky pink liquid from the servant. He, too, was gorgeous, with teal hair, fair skin, and doll-like lips. Much like the orange haired one, his face was more round, but he seemed to have the characteristic glow about him like the others. She turned to Jimin, meeting his clear blue eyes. “W-where…?”
“We have brought you to the Prince, as ordered.” He said simply, his voice like a dream. “Would you like us to give you a little information before you meet him?”
(Y/N) nodded, and it was Jungkook who spoke next. “The one on the throne is, of course, Prince Jin. He is to become the next king of the Summer courts. The men around him are his closest friends, what you would call ‘Fae Gentry’.”
“F-Fae…” (Y/N) breathed, her eyes wide.
“Yes, Fae.” Jimin chuckled, continuing from where Jungkook left off. “The one with orange is called Namjoon, the silver one is Taehyung, and the one with the Auburn is Hoseok, but he also goes by Hope.”
“Don’t tell anyone outside of the four of them and the two of us this,” Jungkook began, “but the servant boy is Yoongi, he’s the Prince’s friend too. But the court can’t know that yet, since Yoongi is a changeling.”
Changeling? (Y/N) thought about the term, trying to remember what it meant. “You mean… He’s a human that’s grown up in Faerie… right?”
Jungkook nodded. “He’s been here so long he’s practically fully Fae by now… but as someone born human, he can only be a servant.” (Y/N) frowned, her eyes cloudy.
“Until Jin becomes king, that is.” She nodded now, despite still being visibly unhappy about the treatment of humans in this land. “Don’t worry though.”
“You’re special, no one could lay a hand on you,” Jimin finished as the Prince looked over here. His face contorted in awe before he smiled brightly, waving. “Shall we go meet him, now?”
Nodding once more, (Y/N) followed the two sirens over toward the throne, the heat of the entire court’s eyes burning through her dress. Before she could even stand before the Summer Prince, Taehyung and Hoseok enveloped her in a warm hug. “You’re finally back,” Taehyung breathed, smiling a boxy smile.
Back? Before (Y/N) could open her mouth, Jin’s voice rang out. “Hey! Unhand my (Y/N)! I was supposed to hug her first!” My (Y/N)? The two gentry released her, only seconds before Jin took their place, burying (Y/N)’s face in his chest and clinging to her as if he hadn’t seen her in centuries.
“I-I…” She stuttered, blushing deeply as Jin let her go and held her by her thin shoulders.
Jin’s face fell at her words. This was certainly the little girl he and the others used to play with in the hills just outside the entrance, all grown up. But there was not even a shred of recognition in her eyes, nor glee or nostalgia. Only a blank curiosity and mild confusion. He could feel his eyes misting over, and looked up at the sun to keep the tears from falling. “My, (Y/N)…”
“You don’t remember your own brother?”
Thank you for reading! Lemme know what you think, and who YOU want MC to end up with. There might be multiple endings. And talk about that ending. But... is it just me... or do the sirens seem to know about your amnesia?
