They disappear briefly and come back with an empty bowl and a spoon

The ship is an old antique replica of an actual pirate ship and was a “gift” from someone he’d used his quirk on. Originally he was trying to con money or food from the man, but he wasn’t going to turn down a PIRATE SHIP

It likely would never see the water anyway as it’s just unceremoniously dumped in the middle of an open field on the very outskirts of Deika city

His “crew” also isn’t seaworthy. They’ve likely never had experience as an actual ship crew. He doesn’t even know if any of them can swim. They’re just random people he adopted into the group

The crew as a whole doesn’t accept anyone as an authority other than James, not even Redestro. While there may be a few exceptions where one person may follow another’s orders, for the most part, the crew believes Jameson is the only one that’s actually cared for them so his word is the only thing that matters

Related to the previous point, his crew technically isn’t part of the MLA. They followed James but again, only accept orders from him. While they may agree with or fight for the MLA’s goals that’s not where their loyalty lies
