up your face 

into your left eye 

and you blink. 

it’s gone

and i know we both

would go back and undo

when the wind carried

the scent of your home

i closed my eyes

and thought;

this is it

her eyes filled with tears

& she hadn’t been hugged

in so many years

but there was her daughter

at 6 feet apart

and being conscientious

i rest my weary limbs 

on the mossy forest floor and think; 

i am the soft earth 

i am the gentle breeze 

i am the sunlight and i am

the people bathing in it

and i will forever

i say, it holds me

it holds me in its solid arms

so let me find myself in moments past

let me love my breath

until my last

let me be narcissus

i asked my friends, they nodded

let me get it, i said

i am young

i can do anything

let me get it

like icarus, i did not know my

life was a story and

i did not know

the malice of the gods

but i should have known

that hubris always

i watered your seeds

i bathed you in sunlight

and pulled all the weeds

but winter came early

and life isn’t fair

you withered too quickly

because fake ones don’t exist
