Martín is the only Heir to the Argentinean Crown. He takes his role as prince quite seriously; he wants to make his father and his country proud. His people love him unconditionally, but it is more a star-struck sense of deep admiration. They see him high up on this unreachable golden pedestal like some sort of knight in a shiny armour with a choir of angels behind him.

Luciano is the Heir to the Brazilian Crown, but unlike Martín he is not an only child. He is the oldest male son, but he has siblings – I only have Angola as his far-more-competent older sister in mind at the moment, but I’m particularly interested in giving him younger siblings (lusofam stans hit askbox pls). Luciano is far more relaxed about his prince role, which makes him far more approachable than Martín. As expected, this makes him very popular among his people, who have a very dear fondness over their young kind handsome prince.

Sebastián is the son of the Duke of Uruguay, so no, he’s not Martín’s brother by blood but actually his cousin. They were raised together and have a very close bond, which is why they think of each other in terms of brothers. Sebas had a bit of rocky life; he spent most of his childhood with Martín, until Brazil occupied Uruguay and he and his family were taken as prisoners by the Empire. Since they were royalty, it was a privileged captivity, it’s not like they threw them into dungeons, they just weren’t allowed to leave the palace or contact Argentina. During those years, Sebastián met Luciano and they became close friends. Eventually Argentina reclaimed Uruguay and Sebastián and his family returned to Buenos Aires.

Daniel is there too, somewhere somehow. I’m not sure what his role would be, but he is Martín and Sebas’ cousin too. He is younger than Tincho and older than Sebas, but since his mother was the late King’s youngest sister, Sebas goes first in line of succession.

Francis is part of French aristocracy, so he’s just there hanging around, assisting parties and charming people, just living the life. He likes to mingle with Royalty of all sort, so he frequents both Argentina’s and Brazil’s courts and has known both Luciano and Martín since they were children. He likes to consider himself some sort of cool uncle to the Crown Princes.

Argentina is a monarchy I very dramatically called the United Provinces of the Kingdom of Argentina because a fancy mouthful of a name really suits us. However, they still have many elements of the structure of a democracy, so it’s less like the old days monarchies and more like a modern era one. Argentina is also a fairly new country, so their monarchy is only a couple of generations long, which makes them a little green to other royalty’s eyes. When Luciano calls them “a shitshow”, he is not entirely wrong, as Argentina is a very young nation with a court filled with people who can’t seem to agree on anything and like to scream at each other. Any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental :)

Brazil is a monarchy too, but it is waaaaaaay older than Argentina. It remounts many generations back, Luciano’s family has been in the throne for centuries. This allows Brazil’s royal family to have a sense of superiority over Argentina’s (as in “we already were kings while you all were a bunch of mongrels fighting each other trying to unify a country”), but it also makes them far more traditional and rigid. It is the old school take on monarchy in contrast with “progressive innovative” Argentina’s.

Slavery is legal in Brazil, and that includes sex slaves. In contrast, Argentina finds the concept of slaves abhorrent and instead prefers the “most civilized” approach of pets (courtesans of either sex who have contracts with wealthy masters/mistresses).

Brazil considers Argentina a pit of treacherous back-stabbing snakes, and Argentina considers Brazil an Empire of backward savages (a la Akielos vs Vere).

The Cisplatine War (Southern/Eastern Bank War in the fic) is also a little different. Argentina and Brazil have been disputing the dukedom of Uruguay for decades. As I already explained with Sebas, the war happened when Argentina marched in and reclaimed Uruguay from Brazil’s rule, which of course led to an armed conflict between the two kingdoms.

During this war, Martín and Luciano had barely turned 18, and Sebastián was 14. Both Martín and Luciano were allowed to participate in the war, both in meetings and in battle, but it was a tightly supervised participation. Both the King and the Emperor wanted to have their Heirs taste war without actually risking them, so they were sent out sporadically and heavily guarded, usually to smaller easier battles or just kept on the tamest combat zones.

The Sebastián incident was something that shook both countries to the core at a national scale, and that is because Argentina and Brazil have very different version of what occurred.

To the Argentinean public, Luciano was a dishonourable sadist who saw a defenceless child caught in the middle of a battle and stroked them down – and not just any child, but one of their princes nevertheless. Martín had to watch his brother fight death and struggle to recover. Luciano irrevocably ruined Sebas’ life, crippled an otherwise healthy boy.

To the Brazilian public, Sebastián’s presence in the battlefield was no mistake but a despicable Argentinean rouse. Why else was he wearing the Crown Prince’s armour? The Argentineans disguised a child like their Prince and sent him into battle in his sake hoping no one would notice, that’s the only conclusion. Sebas was Luciano’s dear friend, so you can imaginae Lu’s pure horror the moment he realised he stabbed his friend. In Luciano’s eyes, Martín was too much of a coward to fight his own battles and sent a child double instead.

At the end of the day, the truth everyone is too angry to hear from Sebas’ very lips is he just wanted to talk to Luciano, see if Lu could convince the Emperor to stop this senseless war. Sebas had tried convincing Martín to talk to his father for months, but Tincho wouldn’t listen, so Sebas slipped into Martin’s armour and rode out. He was caught in the middle of a Brazilian attack by accident, and found the end of Luciano’s sword.

Sebastián almost didn’t survive Luciano’s attack. The injury was really bad, rehabilitation was hard, and it took a heavy toll on his health; one of his legs is mostly useless (he has a slight limp he is very good at hiding and most people don’t know about), and never seemed to recover his physical strength and stamina, so his muscles are rather weak. He holds no grudges over Luciano, and wishes Martín didn’t either.

Hopefully that is enough world building and now I can finally start talking about the fic’s current events :’D

At the moment, Uruguay is part of Argentina, but Brazil has the perfect opportunity to attack and take it back now that the King and Prince of Argentina are gone.

Martín’s father died shortly after Tincho was taken captive. Sebas’ father would be the next in line, but since he died somewhere along the years between the War and current events, this would make Sebastián the new King if it wasn’t because he’s underage - still one year from 21.

The Emperor of Brazil is alive, but very sick. And by sick I mean he is being poisoned. Probably. I’m not sure yet. The Empress consort is alive though, and knows something is up; the Argentinean King’s sudden death, his Heir’s “disappearance” and her husband mysterious illness are extremely suspicious.

UK is the only behind the Argentinean coup. So far I don’t really have much motivation other than “Argentina and UK had a very bad relationship and it would be in the UK’s best interest if Argentina had a new King who hasn’t a prideful hot-headed member of the House of Hernández”. Still a wip as you see.

Remember I said Francis mingles with royalty of all sorts? Well, he has more info on everyone than he knows what to do with, so much dirt on everyone. He heard of the coup while he was back at the Brisith court, and tried to help Martín how he could. The original plan was to murder the Crown Prince as well, but Francis managed to slip in and orchestrate everything behind everyone’s back so Martín would end up as some nameless slave in Rio de Janeiro. Francis has no side really, he just wants the best for his two favourite “nephews”.

Luciano recognised Martín the moment he saw him. Not only did he recognised his face, but also his physical similarity with Sebastián confirmed his identity. The Empress noticed too, and forbid Lu from killing Tincho much to his chagrin. They will follow Francis plan and hide their enemy from the people trying to kill him until they figure what is going on and whom they can trust.

That doesn’t mean Luciano will play fair with his new “toy”. His mother said “no killing”, but she never said “make sure he is comfortable and happy and well cared for”.

Martín doesn’t get Damen’s flogging scars, but he does get something arguably worse (in the long run at least). The first order Luciano gives out concerning his new slave is that as Royal property, he needs to be branded. As painful as it is, it is quick and requires little recovering, but Martín now carries the Imperial Coat of arms seared into his skin and that humiliation burns deeper than flesh.

As the new Crown Prince, Sebastián eventually pays Luciano a visit with the pretext of peace talks to avoid a new war, but mostly because he has his own suspicions. He knows Martín and doesn’t buy that rumour that he run away, something must have happened to him. Luciano listens and doesn’t mention he currently has Martín collared and cuffed as his slave in his very palace. After all, his mother said not to tell anyone and maybe he likes Sebastián better in the throne.

Martín does try to reach Sebastián when he hears Argentina’s new heir is in Rio, but he doesn’t get as much as watch from afar, unable to reach him and let him know he is alive and right here.

Danielito tiene cara de bebote ♥ La gente suele darle menos edad de la que tiene, y en general cuando ven a los 3 primos juntos enseguida asumen que él es más joven, lo que lo desquicia. Como buena familia, Martín y Sebastián lo cargan a muerte siempre que sale el tema.

A la inversa, Martín y Daniel también suelen complotar juntos y joder a Sebas por ser el “bebé” de la familia.

Martín a veces tiene esos ataques que les agarran a los padres que se ponen en víctima, particularmente cuando quiere salirse con la suya. “Yo que te di todo, te críe, el culo te limpié, y así me respondes”, así bien dramático. Daniel y Sebastián suelen acceder no porque realmente les de culpa, sino para que Martín se calle la boca y deje de hacer el ridículo, tengo dignidad, señor.

Al contrario de la mayoría de las tans que me imagino que viven en el centro de sus capitales nacionales, a Daniel me lo imagino prefiriendo los suburbios. Prefiere la vida de barrio, si evitarse el cemento y el estrés de la ciudad le lleva tener que viajar una hora desde su casa al trabajo, que así sea. Vive en un barrio tranquilito, en una casita viejita de esas divinas que ni timbre tienen y tenes que chiflar o aplaudir, con su jardincito y sus plantas y una hamaca paraguaya en la que se tira por las tardes a tomar la siesta.

Tengo el hc que en línea general, todas las naciones tiene una facilidad en la cocina, la música y el baile, son de los pilares de la cultura. En el caso de Daniel, me lo imagino más inclinado a la música y no tanto al baile. Imagino que no está muy cómodo siendo el centro de atención, que prefiere un instrumento al canto o el baile. Los músicos suelen pasar más desaparecidos, si se pierden en su música no llaman la atención de la forma que un bailarín o cantante si lo hace. No es que Dani baile o cante mal, es tímido nomas. En compañía de confianza puede ser persuadido, pero solo con su gente se siente 100% cómodo para tomar la iniciativa él solito.

Tengo el hc que Martín es un poco el puente que une a Daniel y Sebastián, que sin él no serían capaz tan unidos. No es que Dani y Sebas se lleven mal, pero creo que tomaron distancia cuando dejó de existir el Virreinato y Dani hizo la suya y Sebastián quedo medio a rastras de Martín. Martín es ese chicle pegajoso y molesto que los une.

Danilo tiene leves tendencias pirománticas. Hace unos años le escribí un fic al Dani de la Fiesta de San Juan y me puse a hacer averiguaciones y me quede ASUSTADA por la cantidad de juegos que incluían cosas prendidas fuego :)

Daniel es super supersticioso, influenza de Keraná que me imagino que desde chico que le va con cuentos y folklore. Martín anda segundo, comparte lo supersticioso si bien finge que no, él no cree en esas cosas. A ver, no es que tengan miedo, pero si mucho respeto que con eso no se jode. Sebastián es un escéptico que los juzga en silencio.

En línea general, Daniel es un amor y un pan de dios, pero Martín le saca lo peor en 2 muy diferentes facetas; la primera, lo jodón. No confíes en Daniel si Martín anda alrededor, que se convierten en dos nenes, compañeros de crimen y compinches a muerte (en esos son los momentos en los que Sebastián se pregunta cómo es que él es el menor). La segunda, creo que Martín nació con el don de desquiciar a la gente, y Daniel no es la excepción, no tiene inmunidad cuando Martín se pone especialmente molesto o insoportable.

Comparte más en común con Martín de lo que parece. De adolescente era igual de cabezón y orgulloso. Pero la historia le dio una dura lección de humildad. Hoy por hoy igual creo que tiene mucho carácter oculto. Comparte la misma chispa explosiva de Martín, si bien tiene la mecha más larga. Pero se pone bastante gallito cuando se embronca, sacando pecho y puteando en guaraní.

Tengo el hc que Martín de chiquito los malcriaba a Dani y Sebas, y que por eso los dos eran dos nenes bastante tímidos y llorones. Ahora que son adultos, es al revés y es Daniel el que malcría a Martín a pedido del propio :D Tincho es demandante y cargoso, le gusta la atención y que lo mimen, y es un arrastrado que le llora a Daniel y Sebas para que le den bola, se les tira encima cual gato que se acuesta arriba de un libro que estas leyendo. Sebastián lo saca rajando, que se vaya a pasar vergüenza a otro lado, pero Danielito que tiene una vena un poco madrazona y no tiene problema en darle bola y cocinarle.

Creo que es medio abuela en ese aspecto Daniel. Siempre tiene la casa lista para visitar, y le gusta agasajar. Es muy anfitrión, por lo que en general Martín y Sebas prefieren visitar a él y no la inversa. De lo de Daniel salís contento con la panza llena.

Daniel es el bebé de mamá. Tiene más de 200 años, pero a mamá se la llama por lo menos dos veces a la semana y se la visita religiosamente los fines de semana, Keraná no se lo permitiría de otra forma.

I’ve already said that Antonio didn’t paid much attention to his colonies, and I hc this was especially evidently to small territories like Sebas. Unlike Martín (who desperately craved for Antonio’s attention), I think Sebas didn’t really miss him to much – how could he when Tonio was never around to begging with? Instead, I think Sebas was more dependable on young Martincito.

I think Martín had a very marked role as Sebastián’s elder brother. Assuming this protector role was just part of Tincho’s very nature; he likes to take the lead and pretend he is the wisest around, so you should def listen to him and do as he says ‘cause he knows what’s best he doesn’t. I think this was further cemented when Martín got promoted to Viceroyalty and took Uruguay’s and Paraguay’s territories “under his wing”. I imagine that during their childhood, this hierarchy difference was physically visible in an age difference that made Martín slightly older – so now he not only has the attitude, but also the age to support his “elder brother” role.

I have already said that I think Tinchito was very dedicated and well behaved in order to catch Antonio’s attention, but I also think that when his homework was done and there was no one around to impress, he was a cheeky clever runt who just liked to poke trouble in the nose. I know it sounds confusing, but I believe this two contrasting faces of his are not mutually exclusive, as it often happens with Tincho in general. Martín was just a very energetic restless child.

In contrast, I hc Sebas as a quiet calm kid, bordering on shy and insecure. As usually happens with young kids with older boys, he was very impressed by loud boisterous Martín’s endless confidence. He mostly trailed after Martín, joined whatever crazy idea he came up with and followed until the end because he trusted blindly on Martincito’s ability to conquer anything that got in his way. In Sebas’ eyes, Tincho was an unstoppable force of nature, and to be fair Martincito liked to feed this fantasy. He liked being this big brother Sebas looked up to - I think he did his best to live up to it. To him, Sebas was his little brother who needed to be looked after and protected. He was someone he loved dearly, someone he didn’t want to disappoint nor let down. For a young boy, I hc Tincho was a surprisingly sweet and caring older brother for both Sebas and Daniel. He was gentle and tender with them in ways he was not with anyone else. He def coddled them, which didn’t really help with Sebas’ confidence issues, no matter how well intended Tincho was.

Unlike Martín, who had a firm Spanish grip over him, Sebastián was disputed a lot between Spain and Portugal, so Sebas did spend some years away under Portuguese domain. I think his departure really hurt them both, particularly Martín. After all, this was his helpless little brother, what was Sebastián supposed to do on his own? In childish anger, I think Martín blamed it on Brazil (as if Luciano, who also was only a colony back then, had any real saying on the matter).

For Sebas, I think being away from Martín was actually a way to mature and gain confidence. It gave him a chance to experience the world from another point of view. I think it gave him a perspective about things neither the Spanish colonies nor the Portuguese ones had, and most importantly, it gave him the opportunity to stand on his own two feet and strengthen his legs.

By the time Sebas was annexed again to Spanish territory, I think he came back to Martín a little older and a little wiser. Martín was still his very dear older brother, but Sebas stopped idolizing him and running to his legs crying. He abandoned the childish wonder and started to see Martín in another light. Martín was confident, yes, but that also made him stubborn. Brave, but also reckless. Honest, but also harsh… for every trait he had looked up to before, he now also found a flaw on the other side of the coin.

I think this new confidence made them clash a little. Martín has never appreciated being contradicted or called out, and this “new” Sebas didn’t hesitate in doing so. Martín much preferred the old clingy Sebastián over this more independent Sebas, very much like a father nostalgically remembers the childhood years of their unruly teen.

Then the wars of independences came, and Martín was a little too busy to pay Sebas too much attention. I have said before that I think Martín was very hard to handle and be around during the years following the Independence, and as much as Sebas loved him, Martín was just too much intensity to handle at the time. Martín felt very possessive over Sebastián, too entitled, and I don’t think it was a feeling Sebas appreciated at all. He wasn’t a small child anymore, and Martín should stop treating him like one and start treating him like an equal.

They were separated yet again when Brazil took over the territory, which lead to the Cisplatine War. Martín was very fierce about getting Sebas back.- he had lost him before to Luciano back when Antonio was in charge, he wouldn’t lose him again now that Martín ran the show.

As much as I hc Sebas being close friends with Luciano due to his years under Portuguese domain, I don’t think he was very happy with Lu about the invasion. I don’t think he approved of the war either; both Martín and Luciano had been very important much cherished people in Sebas’ life, and I don’t think he was particularly happy with neither during that time.

The Cisplatine War eventually led to Uruguay’s independence and consolidation as a free country, which I think Martín deep down resented a little; after all, he is a sore loser, and Sebastián was supposed to stay at hi side. Tincho eventually got over it – I don’t think it was a grudge he could hold for long, considering how deeply he does care for Sebas.

They have had their problems and fights, they don’t always get along and they argue quite a lot, yes, but that is what family does.I think Martín and Sebastián have one of the closest relationship in the region personally speaking. They have this soul deep understanding of each other, they share so much culture and have so much in common it’s ridiculous.
