This project has brought all the emotions... confusion, stress and frustration, but the final result was one of happiness. I worked really hard on this project and I think the main reason for this is because I loved working on it and I loved our group project.

I was quite nervous during the first week, what was going to be expected when the brief was so open and how was I going to work with a group for the whole semester on one project? But this all came together wonderfully and I was surprised with how much I enjoyed working on it and the course as a whole.

Our end result was something that really came about in the last month of working on this project, which I found quite stressful, not really knowing what direction it was going in. But once we got it, we were on a roll. I found our topic really interesting to work with and the best part of it all was that the brief was so open. It meant that i could use my favourite medium of design, which is primality publication design, as well as add some simplistic and very Estelle-style illustrations. But the thing I enjoyed the most was the learning process with this project. I learnt so many new skills through trial and error, mostly error, but still. I learnt how to use a Wacom tablet, how to progress with my InDesign skills in terms of designing a publication, how to bind a book by stitching it. But the biggest thing was the printing process. I always managed to have something wrong with my document every single time I went to the printers... but I feel that I wouldn’t have learnt this any other way except through making these mistakes... I now think there is a very slim chance of me making these mistakes again!

vehicle graphics (trucks, vans etc - more than one graphic for each truck - will there be multiple? - technical drawings for each)

Production process example:

meet with the client to discuss the job

research (competitors, suppliers, current)

conceptual process (various possible directions and applications of new logo/design section of i.e. packaging)

meet with client (present with possibilities)

extend design application (apply new logo/design to all pack configurations)

meet with the supplier (printer) discuss project/print/quality/finishes/budget/timing/artwork - file preparation, required samples

finalise preparation of artwork files (getting off /approval from client)

artwork files to printer (you and client to check and approve proofs/samples for go ahead to print - NEED final check, to sign!)

So finally excited that my document was looking perfect and my test prints turned out well in the end, so that I could do my final printing of my document... 

Of course there was one last problem... something so frustrating snd stupid that I didn’t even pick up on... my document had to be multiples of 4 so that it would print in booklet form with back to back pages... of course I hadn’t done this... I was missing a spread... 

So I had to go home from the printers and decide on what to design, in the end I added a little section in the middle spread of my book called “notes, thoughts & drawings”. This is so that the reader can draw and write up there own experiences or reflections on the experiences... I actually really loved this idea and felt that in the end it was actually a huge part of my final document...

So I was feeling pretty organised, having completed my final book and design a couple of weeks before it was due, for final proofs, approval and to allow time for printing and binding of course. And it was lucky that I did! Because boy did I have printing problems... I firstly went into the printing shop with my own paper and all I wanted was to get a test copy done... I had designed my book for each individual page to be A5... not considering when I would go into the printing shop that it would print on an A4 sheet, meaning that the bleed and crop marks would disappear... which would actually be a huge problem since I had designed full bleed pages and with such thick paper I was going to have to cut it down to size after I had bound it... 

So I sat there with my laptop having to resize my whole document... which luckily wasn’t a huge issue... it didn’t take too long! 

The next issue was the final printing on my paper... the top spread in my last image was the first outcome... it came out wonderfully, except the typeface was in an extra light weight so it was hard to read on the textured stock I had used... So I decided to trial just the regular light weight and printed that... only to find that it was printing very dark... 

In the end I went back to using the extra light weight and when I went back for more test copies they printed it differently.... and it was much nicer... they must of used a different printer setting because the result was perfect!
