Conan was grateful for his highness’ concerns— really. Perhaps the crown prince thought that he would benefit from having a confidante… or two.  But why would Hakuba send an underqualified knight to serve as his guard when he didn’t need one at the academy in the first place? A nanny— somewhat made sense. But a guard? He already had Kaito— capable, keen, and unexpectedly earnest Kaito. Things were just simpler when it had just been the two of them.
