He grinned, exhaling sharply out of his nose. âWell, bath salts sound like a hell of a lot more fun than bath-matties.â he grinned, deliberately mispronouncing it now just to get a rise. âI donât cook, I have people for that. Well, my parents do, I just take what comes my way.â he shrugged, âand itâs never rice.â he paused for a moment, trying to map out where exactly he was in relation to his home. âDo you live nearby? Iâll buy you a pizza or something. Iâd hate to leave you thinking rice was a good food.â
âIâll take your word for it,â she retorted, playfully rolling her eyes. âYou could always have your people cook you something healthy, you know,â she suggested, dropping both rices into her basket with an audible shake. His offer was backhanded, but it was getting late, and she couldnât deny that pizza sounded like a better carb in the moment. âI do,â she confirmed, lifting an eyebrow, âand while you wonât change my mind on the rice front, I also like pizza. So I suppose we can compromise.â
miss-miagrayâ:
Though a teacher of English, Mia had never thought of poets reading their work as sensual. She stood and considered it for a moment, and tilted her head; she supposed some work may be considered so, but not most. It truly depended on context. Trying to invoke a different conversation, Mia shook herself back to the present moment. ââ.. do you have any Valentineâs plans?â
Not exactly privy to the debate commencing in the otherâs head, Esme rounded the display the two were poised at, shoveling a few other novelties into her basket out of boredom more than necessity. She shrugged at the question; she didnât have anything set in stone, but the possibilities sheâd offered the girl were on her table, too. âIâll figure something out, thereâs still more than a week and plenty of wine,â she chuckled.
eloise-evertonâ:
Eloise tilted her head in silence, observing the other. And Esme not looking backâ lose in her thoughtsâ gave her a perfect opportunity to do so. It was clear the young redhead worried too much. Eloise, on the other hand, never did. Whenever a problem presented itself, she went straight to solving it, finding a way to do so. Waiting around had never been an option. âWhat email?â She heaved a sigh. âStaring at that screen wonât surely solve it. So yesâ a drink. Whatâs your poison, my dear?â
She didnât put much thought into the generosity of her new bartop mate, accepting the distraction from the blank screen in front of her face. A few words to tear her away and liquor to sooth her woes sounded like a promising combination in her book. âWhatever is strong,â she responded in a slight scoff, locking her screen and sliding it aside to keep her fingers idle.
jvkekingsâ:
âWell, I mean both,â Jake shrugged, but he was grinning anyway. The conversation had taken a somewhat ridiculous turn, though that was how most of his conversations went these days anyway. âMmm, I donât know, your angle is all wrong,â he laughed, pretending to strike a pose. âBut if you ever need a photographer, you should hire your old buddy here.â
Jabbing an accusatory finger into Jakeâs chest, she clicked her tongue. âI knew it. Donât ask questions if I invite you to a large body of water soon.â Shifting her fingers into a new false frame, she snapped another air photo before letting her hands fall around her cup. âIâll keep you in mind, I suppose. At least as an assistant, you got my order right on the first try,â she noted, raising her cup.

nicotamburelloâ:
Nico just grinned at the look she gave him, holding his hands up as though defending himself. âJust telling the truth.â At her dramatics, he laughed, rolling his eyes playfully. âApparently not enough fucking,â he replied. âMaybe I should get on Tinder, really try this beard out.â
âApparently!â She chirped, leaning back in her seat. The difference in urgency in both of their respective sex lives was flabbergasting to Esme, quite honestly. âMaybe weâll make a pact,â she joked, âyou get your jollies worked out with a night of daddy issue Tinder passion, and Iâll pretend that I bought a shiny new rectal accessory. Deal?â
talaxstclaireâ:
Valentineâs Day wasnât her favorite holiday, but she didnât dislike it either. Sure, her romantic life was a black hole of hookups and bad dates, but that didnât mean she couldnât root for other people. âYeah, a Valentineâs Bash. That could work. With a little extra wine for Tala on the side.â
âWe could dress up like Cupid, shoot people with plastic arrows...â she rattled off, the idea coming to life before her eyes. âOh, of course the wine,â she scoffed, âitâs us, how could there not be wine? And vodka... and tequila if weâre feeling adventurous.â
âOhâŚwowâ He laughed softly and gently took the box from her hands. âIâm a real winner arenât I?â He shook his head and tossed the box into his basket. âCanât believe I missed all of those and almost took you out in the process.â he smiled and repositioned his basket. âIâm really sorry about thatâŚitâs been a long nightâŚâ
Grinning slyly, she relinquished the box to the bashful other, holding back the chuckle at his expense. âItâs late, donât be too hard on yourself. At least about missing the brownies,â she added, slowing offering him a smirk, ârunning into me, however, was inexcusable and better not happen again.âÂ
miss-miagrayâ:
âWhat? No, Iâ.. I never said that..â Mia trailed off, feeling slighlty foolish for having her stutter over her words. âYouâre right, I havenât, and.. I doubt Iâd be a natural at something like that. I read. Thatâs a one person thing.â
A guilty smirk tugged at Esmeâs lips, having successfully flustered the poor girl. She knew it wasnât exactly fair to taunt her, but in her defense, sheâs invited Esmeâs opinion into things. âFind a writer then,â she shrugged, offering sincere advice this time. âOr a poet, someone to read their work to you. Even better, and very sensual.â
arlobowenâ:
âYou sound like my mum.â he rolled his eyes, a small smile playing about his face. âI mean, donât get me wrong, rice is okay if youâre, like, starving in the woods, Iâm sure. I just prefer my food to actually taste of something. Or at least something I know. Not, what was it you said? Bath mats or something?â
Involuntarily mirroring the mannerisms, Esme rolled her eyes, softly shaking her head at his exaggeration. âYou must not know how to cook rice, then. And itâs basmaaati,â she enunciated, extending each syllable to overcome her accent. âIf you eat bath mats, youâll turn into a zombie and start tearing off peopleâs faces. Oh, wait, no, thatâs bath salts, never mind that.â

No, the fact of the matter is that if you canât handle a cup of coffee then you sure as hell canât handle anything else, Unnamed Intern. Get your shit together before I get back to the office and donât touch any stationary. If I come back to find you stapled to something again, I swearâ [ As the call ended, Ella rolled her eyes and in turn, wound up realising she wasnât alone. Pushing her hair back behind her ear to reveal her hands-free earpiece she tried for a smile. ]
Donât worry, none of that was directed at you.
With the sheer volume of the conversation unfolding beside her, it was next to impossible not to eavesdrop. Though it would seem the recipient of the call had transgressed in their job in some way, Esme couldnât help but feel badly for them for the way things were sounding of her end. "Didnât think it was,â she smiled tightly, turning back to focus on her phoneâs screen once the woman was through.
Lookâ Whatever it is you think I did or didnât do to your skinny, non-fat, no foam latte or whatever⌠Iâm officially off the clock so take it up with someone else.
âThis has foam,â she growled, peeling back the latteâs lid. âAre you blind or just terrible?â
miss-miagrayâ:
Mia stopped to chuckle to herself for a moment; imagine Mia Gray on Tinder. She could barely take a photo of herself, let alone post them for the world to see. âIâ.. donât think Iâm.. thatâs suitable, for me.â If it was a speed-dating event sheâd either be too shy to contribute, or too drunk.
âYou donât think youâre suitable for yourself?â She taunted, biting back the guilt of putting the clearly discomforted girl on the spot. âI bet youâve never even tried it, maybe youâll be a natural. And then someone can buy your novelty wine for you instead.â
âSorry, Iâm not trying to be rude, I just havenât slept more than two hours the past two days and Iâm slowly losing my mind.â
âIt was just a simple question, but Iâll leave the chair where it is.â
talaxstclaireâ:
âSo why donât we do it?â She offered, gesturing with her hand to the room around them. âWe have a little fun for everybody. Booze, good music, food. We could play pool on this old table I found at a garage sale.â
as pleasant of a concept it was, esme didnât think tala had meant a full blown soiree with her proposal, but now that the idea was on the table, she was on board. a slow, devious grin spread over her cheeks, nodding eagerly as the image was painted for her. âyes,â she spoke, âvery yes, we could have our own insane valentineâs bash!â

arlobowenâ:
Arlo was skulking around the grocery store. He hadnât a real need to be there, he was just wasting time between being at work and being at home. He was mid-daydream when a random question caught his attention. âHmm?â he yipped for a moment before realising very suddenly what the other had said. âOh, well, I donât really eat rice but, I know what jasmine is, so Iâd probably pick that.â he paused for a moment, âor, pick neither and get something thatâs actually nice.â
Maybe the recipient of her question was poorly chosen, and with his inattentive response, sheâd have been fine moving on and choosing for herself, but he recovered nicely. âRice is nice,â she chirped defensively, not anticipating the eager rhyme. âWhatâs wrong with rice? Itâs a good grain.â
mvnaceâ:
he wasnât skilled in cooking, so there werenât many options at the supermarket which appealed to thor. most nights, heâd convince his mothers they wanted him to come over to dinner just as much as he wanted to. he stood, wondering if the different shapes of pasta were cooked differently he heard the comment and spun around. âi like the kind they give you when you order rice at a chinese place?â
boxes in hand, she stared blankly for a moment at the answer sheâd received from the fellow shopper, needing a moment to register the third option she hadnât given him. âwhite,â she corrected, âitâs just white rice, bland and... white,â she repeated, taking another glance at her choices. âthese are much nicer, you shouldnât settle for boring,â she murmured.
