Camren timeline - pt 1 - 2012
As you may well know, Camila and Lauren met at The X Factor US 2012. They ran into each other during the blind auditions. Camila was first impressed by Laurenâs voice and then by her beauty and was really intimidated by her. Lauren thought Camila was cute, but not much of a competition until she heard her sing. For reference, Camilaâs first impression of Lauren also matches her lyrics in SeĂąorita:
Sweat drippinâ off me
Before I even knew her name
Camren became friends on the first day of bootcamp, according to Lauren. In an interview to Terrell, Dinah talked about how she met the other girls and mentioned that Camila and Laurenâs ârelationshipâ was pretty close because they were both from Miami. This makes a lot of sense because, living in the same city, Lauren and Camila shared a lot of similar experiences. This goes deeper as they both have Cuban backgrounds. Not only are they from the same city, intelectually compatible, but they also share a cultural baggage. Therefore, itâs possible that they were like a piece of home to one another.
Lauren comes up with the nickname Camzi after they went home after filming bootcamp. Itâs their first pic together. Then 5H is born as the Lylas. Hereâs their first interview, with lots of admiring from Camzâs side. They make it through the Judges House with Impossible and had to change their name to 1432 due to legal reasons for the first week of competition. In their performance of WANEGBT, Camila was picked by Demi was the one âwho did it for herâ. They make it through to next with a cover of Skyscraper. In these performances, Camren donât interact much on stage.
In the second week, 1432 finally became 5H. While singing A Thousand Years, we catch Camila admiring Lauren singing for the first time (1:18). While the judges were giving them feebdack, Lauren leans in to whisper something to Camila, but Baby C thought she was going to kiss her cheek (3:21).
Camren are glued to each other in the TTT-Top12. Lauren even pretends to bite Camilaâs arm. Itâs a huge step up from before. Maybe they just grew closer naturally, but something might have happened during the Top 12 Finalists Party. You guys know how party works. They also stayed next to each other during their performance of Hero.
On the fourth week, we had the infamous âMine is Laurenâ on their TTT-Top 10. In spite of reacting to everyoneâs celebrity crush, Camila hadnât revealed hers until prompted by Ally. When she does, their reaction is super positive, with Lauren hugging her and DNA cooing their support. I donât think any of them saw anything beyond friendship at this point, but Camila was very obviously crushing on Lauren because L wasnât a celebrity per say. Camila gave the same answer in a Twitter Q&A.Â
In their performance of Iâll Stand By You, Camila keeps her hand on Laurenâs waist all the time while the judges are giving their feedback. It gets to the point where itâs weird because Lauren wants to celebrate with Normally and Camila wants to do the same with Dinah, but Camila doesnât let go and Lauren doesnât pull away. Instead she squeezes Camilaâs hand on her waist at one point.
The TTT-T8 is the only one in which Camren are not wrapped in their bubble - but because Lauren is focused on comforting Ally, who had lost her grandfather on that week. Keaton also comes up in a tweet question. In 2013, he said he had dated Lauren during the show. However, Keaton and his group were also mentored by Simon Cowell, so it wouldnât surprise me if he had set up a small PR here to promote both of his acts. Especially since this report is so PR-y. Iâm inclined to think itâs PR here, but it wouldnât be a surprise if they were actually legit.Â
On their performance of Stronger, they were focused on Ally. However, in a later interview, Lauren doesnât like it when Mani mentions Camilaâs butt (1:34). Yet, she warns Camila not to say sheâs her girl crush during their interview with Chelsea.
In TTT-Top 6, Camren were still focused on Ally but managed to have a few subtle exchanges even so. On 0:44, Lauren starts to rub Allyâs arm thinking it was Camilaâs, which makes her get an  WTF look from Ally. On 0:50, Lo begins to play with Camilaâs hand. On 1:34, we have the iconic exchange:
C: I just wanna do this for the rest of my life
L: With me
C: No
L: Yes
C: No
L: Admit it
C: Yes
That makes Lauren giggle and has Norminah laughing as if they knew something. Only Ally seems to be oblivious that this wasnât just some playful flirting. They didnât interact on their performances of Set Fire to the Rain and Give Your Heart a Break. No interaction on Anytime You Need a Friend as well, but Lauren looked nervous and Camila had to shoot her a calming glance a couple of times.
In the TTT-Top 4 before the semifinals, Camren just hugged each other a couple of times⌠and Camila slapped Laurenâs butt at 0:24. No interaction in Anything Could Happen and the Spanglish version of Impossible. When the results came through, Camren only hugged towards the end, with Camila lingering a little longer. In an interview after the semi-finals, we have Camren all wrapped up in one another. Camilaâs hold is even possessive if you squint (watch the interview and youâll see). And Lauren seems to be comfortable with it. In another interview, theyâre still hugging and glued to each other.
In the TTT-Finals, we had the infamous âThey call her Mila, I call her Camzâ, lots of hugging, and Lauren holding hands with Camila and rubbing her hand with her thumb. No interaction on their replay of Anything Could Happen, their cover of Give Your Heart a Break featuring Demi, Let It Be, and the Christmas song. Nothing really major happened until we saw Lauren go jealous live when the show presented the flashback of 5Hâs season (2:42). Talking to Chelsea, Lauren did say that she couldnât be happier and then winked at Camila.
In an interview after the finals, Camila and Lauren were sitting next to one another and Camila even played with Lâs hair. In a Christmas interview, Camila pretends she was going to kiss Lauren, making her flinch back a little.
All in all, I think Camren were really good friends in the beginning until something happened in the Finalistsâ Party that made them go further. They became more affectionate towards each other, especially Camila, but it cooled down some time later for unknown reasons. This matches the on and off sentiments we have on âWho Are Youâ.
