For the 100th time: Ukraine is not Palestine
By Anastasia Lebedenko - A Personal War
I wish I said this phrase to a man who was screaming at me last Sunday, comparing me, Ukrainian, to a Palestinian. It took me a week to cry this situation out, and then another few days to try and put it into words. So, here’s a story of how an apartment viewing turned into a political fight and (sort of) a harassment case.
Ukraine is in a funny spot. It’s abandoned by the people on the left because they see the West as inherently bad, and refuse to see russia for the imperial hellhole that it is, sticking to its romanticised communist-dream past. Ukraine-russia war is not viewed through an imperial lens, because people cannot fathom the idea that imperialist agenda does not have a skin colour. It’s abandoned by the right because why should anyone get involved in a war that’s not theirs? Ukraine is seen as an altogether separate entity from the so-called West — what happens there has no real bearing on life of an average American or European, so it should be none of their business.
Ukrainians are even in a funnier spot — seen as too white to be suffering the consequences of imperialism, too Christian to be suffering from a religious persecution, too similar to the neighbours who attack them to be differentiated from them. We’re all the same, the Slavs, right? A vast and empty steppe full of Russian-speaking people (oh wait, do you have your own language?) Can’t you just divide up a territory, if you’re one of the same?

this is just a rough paint and it looks pretty cartoony, you can make the water far more realistic by making the edges neater (and by using reference, of course)

I love this piece! It's on of my favorite bracelets I've ever made. I found the central stone - a rough emerald- at a local rock shop and it yelled at me (quietly) to buy it. I loved the energy of the thing at first sight. I immediately went home and tried to wrap it - and it resisted any attempt I made to wrap it for almost six months.
I was at a show in March and looking for things to do while it was slow and this stone jumped out at me again. And I finally had an idea for how to wrap it that might work.
I hadn't really done it before but I suspected that if I made a frame out of 18g wire that went around the stone and then used 22g to hold it in that it might work better than when I tried to use only 22g before.
When I sat down to work on it, I took a couple of moments to tune in to the energy of the stone, which is something I try to remember to do any time I start a piece where I'm making a setting for a specific stone. When I did it... sang to me. Quietly. It has a very heart-centered sort of energy to it but it also reminded me a little of a scene in Howl's Moving Castle (which I love - it's one of the few movies I like better than the book it's based on...) where the title character catches a falling star. It's a beautiful scene with mystical chanting and some really interesting energy to it.
I'm not sure where I was going with that- except that's where the title of the piece came from. The little accent beads are amazonite and clear crystal for some extra sparkle. LIke most of my bracelets, I finished it with a hook and loop clasp.
You can find it in my store here.

seriously one of the coolest installations ever . they travel the world materializing for a single night at various historically and culturally salient sites as badass and slightly creepy figures of observation, memory, and preservation of knowledge
Time Guardians. Time Guardians. I have chills just looking at the pictures.

Help Maddie's Dream Come True!!
Boosting the signal for a friend:
PLEASE HELP MY DREAMS COME TRUE! My name is Madeleine Robinson. I am an eighth grader from Little Rock, Arkansas. I enjoy lots of things, like acting and singing and hanging with friends. But one of my greatest loves is art. I was just named the Arkansas winner in the Doodle 4 Google contest with my piece, “Under the Sea.” Now, I get to go to New York where I have the chance to win $5,000 in scholarship money if I win in my age group! If I am lucky enough to win the national title, I can get $30, 000 in scholarship money and $45,000 to donate to a library. But, the winners are decided by online votes. The other winners were given a school assembly with a huge banner, and have their entire school – as well as their friends and family – behind them in generating votes. I am homeschooled, and do not have this large group already built in. I love being able to reach out to my family and friends, my local community, my church community. And I appreciate all of the support I have already received and will receive from all of you! I love my homeschooling community, and feel lucky in most ways that I am a homeschooled kid. But in this case, I feel a little left out. Not only do people who go to public school have their whole school in numbers rallying for votes for this contest, but they have more readily available scholarship opportunities. This scholarship money could change my life. And not only that, but it’s very important to me to support my community. If I can help donate money to a local library, it would be another dream come true for me. Please help me make this dream a reality! Share this post with as many people as possible, and please go vote - http://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html#d=d4-2
AINE. WE SHOULD DO THE THING I WAS TALKING ABOUT AND HAVE A TINY CAMERA WITH US AND SEE HOW PEOPLE REACT. I'LL GO FIND PICTURES OF DEAD BODIES IF YOU CAN SCRIBBLE OUT A FEW CREEPY-ASS DRAWINGS OF MONSTERS. WE SHOULD DO THIS.
That could be really amusing. :D
SO I SAW “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester” (4.07) LAST NIGHT
(image from nerdsraging.com)
AND I WAS LIKE “Hey yeah this sounds fun ooh cool Halloween yeah okay”
AND THERE WAS BLOOD AND GORE AND GRUESOME DEATH YOU KNOW THE USUAL HIJINKS
AND THEN
AND...
We couldn't do it. I'm Pagan. That's my religion they're mangling. It doesn't normally annoy me too badly - everybody does it. I've kind of gotten used to it. But.... That was just a little too much. We ended up skipping most of The Great Pumpkin... Of course then we regretted it a little - major plot points, yo. May go back and finish it later.

Can someone please tell me where to find season 8 of SPN? I want to watch it and I swear I’ll buy it (and the rest of the series) when it’s out on DVD and I have money to do so, but netflix doesn’t have it and my Mom deletes any recordings I can make of them because of the use of pentagrams and...

SOMEONE ELSE IS WATCHING SEASON 2 FOR THE FIRST TIME YES. I AM NOT ALONE IN MY “GUYS WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?”
I'm watching it too. I think the last episode I saw was the one with the clowns.
Made my own set if runes using dimes and a sharpie.
okay, I admit, I loled.
HERMES I NEED TO BORROW SOME PENNIES
How about Mercury dimes?
That would be awesome. But I imagine Mercury dimes are rare and thus expensive. Would be worth it, though. Either way, awesome creativity here; reminds me of the time I heard of someone using a Wiimote nunchuk for pendulum divination. :-)
Looks like a few dollars apiece, depending on the year and the condition. I suppose it might be prohibitive if you were setting out to buy an entire set from a coin collector just for this purpose, but you might also be able to find them in estate sales, in lots of other coins for cheap, etc.
(I’ve just learned tonight that the winged head is apparently Liberty and not meant to be related to Mercury or Hermes as such, but, still… they have precedent in use in magic.)
Tip: Eventually the oils in your fingers will start to wear the sharpie off - coating with clear nail polish or similar will prevent that from becoming an issue
