Also if you really want to learn most deaf people are so happy that you are interested in learning and will be super patient and work with you.Â
And itâs a really great thing to be able to do for any job because imagine having to go everywhere with someone that can translate for you or with paper to write or trying to read lips and just going to grab a cup of coffee and Hey, the barista knows sign language. They arenât great but you get to speak with them and order your coffee in the way thatâs natural to you like that would just make your day. Or a teacher that can talk and sign so classes donât have to divide?? Or a therapist that can sign?? Hearing people signing 2k15 honestly.
Iâve been learning to help my HoH/deaf customers, so have some links!

Quick Tips on Creating A Scene
Creating a scene in fiction is like crafting a scene in a movie or TV show. Iâm going to talk briefly on how to craft one:Â
First think of the action. Itâs something a lot of new writers tend to forget. When writing a scene, think first of the charactersâ actions. Where are they moving? What are they doing physically? Have the action lead the scene. There doesnât need to be a lot going on, but action will create interest and urgency. It isnât needed for every scene, but it will make the story feel dynamic and lively.Â
Now where is this scene? Describe. Describe still with the action in mind. Think of the mood, the tone, the atmosphere. Think about setting and create the world around the character. Not just the room and the furniture, but the weather, the sounds, the smells. Mention particularly striking details more than once. It makes readers remember.Â
Last, what does this scene do for your story? All scenes should advance the plot or at least all chapters should. This is something to think about. Does it help the plot? Does it do anything to the story?Â

Things I love about the âvillain turns goodâ trope:
Ex-villains graduating to âweird uncleâ status.
Ex-villains and hero(es) turning the events of previous battles into bizarre inside jokes.
Ex-villains embracing the power of friendship and love.
Ex-villains putting up walls and keeping to themselves until the heroes teach them what it means to trust someone.
Ex-villains messing up and being forgiven because redemption is a process, not an endgame.
Ex-villains being shy and uncertain about their new place as a hero.
Bonus: Ex-villains hiding behind their hero friends during moments of shyness and uncertainty.
Ex-villains being tempted back to the dark side only to realize how much their newfound friendships mean to them.
Ex-villains pretending to return to the dark side, and using their villain cred to be a mole/saboteur on the heroesâ behalf.
Ex-villains taking the same skills and character traits that made them effective villains and using them for good.
Ex-villains defeating current villains by being better at those skills and traits than they are.
Ex-villains being rejected by almost everyone except the very few willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Ex-villains being ferociously protective of those few.
Ex-villains convincing old allies and friends to follow them to the light side.
Ex-villains helping their hero friends through guilt and self-doubt by reminding them that your mistakes donât make you and itâs never too late to turn things around.
Ex-villains receiving unconditional trust and affection from someone small and innocent, and having no idea what theyâre supposed to do with that.
Ex-villains reuniting with heroic loved ones that they donât have to fight against anymore.
Ex-villains looking around at their new friends and their new home and having to sit down and ride out a sudden wave of powerful emotion because they canât remember the last time they felt content.
Things to bring back in books:
Chapter titles
Actually having a synopsis on the back instead of reviews no one will read
Some excellent additions from the notes:
Maps
Indexes of characters and places with pronunciations
Numbering books in a series on the spine
Tables of contents
PEACH FROSĂ
Follow for recipes
Is this how you roll?
To Be Human is probably the most important song on this record for me, because thematically it sums up the headspace that Iâve come from in the past 3 years. I think the subject matter is really important, it talks about unity. I namecheck a lot of places around the world SĂŁo Paulo, Verona, Angola, Chicago, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Greece. When I was writing that I wanted to create this picture of humanity, because in our political climate we are constantly being made to see other people as âotherâ. If youâre from a different culture, youâre seen as different and potentially dangerous and I really hate that. I really think thatâs a sad way to see humanity. So I wrote this song really thinking about that, and for that reason it really forms a core part of the record. Marina - To Be Human (2019)
Some TED talks that will change your life.
How to make stress your friend by Katie McGonial (14.5 minutes)Â
âStress. It makes your heart pound, your breathing quicken and your forehead sweat. But while stress has been made into a public health enemy, new research suggests that stress may only be bad for you if you believe that to be the case. Psychologist Kelly McGonigal urges us to see stress as a positive, and introduces us to an unsung mechanism for stress reduction: reaching out to others.â
8 secrets of success by Richard St.John (3.5 minutes)
Why do people succeed? Is it because theyâre smart? Or are they just lucky? Neither. Analyst Richard St. John condenses years of interviews into an unmissable 3-minute slideshow on the real secrets of success.
A simple way to break a bad habit by Judson Brewer (9.5 minutes)
Can we break bad habits by being more curious about them? Psychiatrist Judson Brewer studies the relationship between mindfulness and addiction â from smoking to overeating to all those other things we do even though we know theyâre bad for us. Learn more about the mechanism of habit development and discover a simple but profound tactic that might help you beat your next urge to smoke, snack or check a text while driving.
Donât regret regret by Kathryn Schulz (17 minutes)
Weâre taught to try to live life without regret. But why? Using her own tattoo as an example, Kathryn Schulz makes a powerful and moving case for embracing our regrets.
How to make hard choices by Ruth Chang (14.5 minutes)
Hereâs a talk that could literally change your life. Which career should I pursue? Should I break up â or get married?! Where should I live? Big decisions like these can be agonizingly difficult. But thatâs because we think about them the wrong way, says philosopher Ruth Chang. She offers a powerful new framework for shaping who we truly are.
The danger of silence by Clint Smith (4 minutes)Â
We spend so much time listening to the things people are saying that we rarely pay attention to the things they donât,â says poet and teacher Clint Smith. A short, powerful piece from the heart, about finding the courage to speak up against ignorance and injustice.
How to speak so that people want to listen by Julian Treasure (10 minutes)
Have you ever felt like youâre talking, but nobody is listening? Hereâs Julian Treasure to help. In this useful talk, the sound expert demonstrates the how-toâs of powerful speaking â from some handy vocal exercises to tips on how to speak with empathy. A talk that might help the world sound more beautiful.
Your body language shapes who you are by Amy Cuddy (21 minutes)
Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how âpower posingâ â standing in a posture of confidence, even when we donât feel confident â can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.
The happy secret to better work by Shawn Anchor (12 minutes)Â
We believe we should work hard in order to be happy, but could we be thinking about things backwards? In this fast-moving and very funny talk, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that, actually, happiness inspires us to be more productive.
A call to men by Tony Porter (11 minutes) [TW: graphic desc. of rape]Â
At TEDWomen, Tony Porter makes a call to men everywhere: Donât âact like a man.â Telling powerful stories from his own life, he shows how this mentality, drummed into so many men and boys, can lead men to disrespect, mistreat and abuse women and each other. His solution: Break free of the âman box.â
