Evening in Wild Cove. Today we lay my brother-in-law, Allen Guy, to rest. He died in February of 2019, just before the pandemic hit. Part of his ashes lie in B.C., close to where his parents now live. But the Guy family plot is here, in a little graveyard only a two-minute drive from the family house. And so, once we were all fully vaccinated and Newfoundland opened to travel, Katrina and I came here with his parents and older sister, and laid Allen’s last remains to rest. It was a simple graveside service on a beautiful, clear sky day. Cousins, aunts and uncles, and family friends who still live in Newfoundland — many here in Twillingate — attended and came to the house after for tea and talk. It was good, as these things go.
