Hermione had not expected the words to come out of his
mouth. They were quarreling, the witch having just taken
a rather long break from him, at least, it seemed long to
her. He had been her only, dare she say, friend upon her
arrival here and when she realized her feelings, she
needed to take a step back, reevaluate things. He did not
seem to take too kindly to that.
She knew she had told him she wasn’t one to give up on
people. And that was still true. She hadn’t given up on him.
But she didn’t trust herself around him any longer. She
felt her walls breaking down and that was the one thing
she needed to maintain.
❝Please don’t do this… We’re
friends… Friends don’t kiss.. I..❞
Her separation from him had admittedly caught him by surprise. He'd not expected this of the witch. At first he hadn't believed that she would go back on her word, that she would leave him like so many had before. It made little sense to him, but perhaps he'd been foolish in believing her in the first place.
During her absence, Tom noted, much to his displeasure, that he missed her greatly. He hadn't counted on this, he'd never expected this to happen. Feelings were often...confusing to him. Often times he preferred to ignore them all together, however he could not do so now. Since he'd met her, his emotions had been all over the place.
But enough was enough, and he'd confronted her. Though it had, like most things involving the young witch, gone wrong.
"I - I am aware. But are we really... just friends? Can you call us that?"
