I’m watching this show on netflix called brain games. The episode I’m on is about how our brains deal with the concept of time, and towards the end here the host said, and I quote, “your brain works to fast for you to notice [a time lag in input and action].” I just want to take a moment to break down what this dude just said.
He said that our brain, which contains all our thoughts, emotions, personality, and which without you would not be you or even be able to function. Your brain, essentially yourself, works so fast that you, aka your brain, aka yourself, don’t notice the time your brain takes to make a decision.
Is that not the freaking weirdest most awesomest thingy-majaber in the world. Your brain works so fast that it can’t even comprehend how fast it works (at least according to this show).
Let me see if I can give an example. So, the one they use on the show are these two sentences, and they ask you picture the scenario:
“The mouse on the desk is broken” and
“The mouse on the desk is eating cheese”
Now you should have pictured a computer mouse for the first sentence and gus-gus takin a munch on some good ol’ americano cheese. However, you didn’t get those pictures till you read the end of those sentences, but you probably didn’t even notice it. Why? Because our brains work to fast for us to notice. OUR BRAINS CAN’T NOTICE HOW FAST THEY WORK. So let me break it down for ya, and I know I’m getting wordy here so just hang with meh. It works like this:
When you read the sentence you read “The mouse on the desk,” and your brain went, “Ok, a mouse on a desk” and had two different kinds of mice on a desk picture ready to go. Then you finished the sentence, “is broken,” or, “is eating cheese.” At that point it was just a simple process for your brain to pop lock and drop that picture in your head, (WHICH IS YOUR BRAIN. YOU BRAIN POPPED LOCKED AND DROPPED THAT PICTURE INTO ITSELF MIND YOU), of gus-gus or your browserin mouserin. ALL WITHIN LIKE .1239872 SECONDS. BUT DOES YOUR BRAIN KNOW THAT IT DID ALL THIS WITHIN -.32987234 SECONDS, NOOOOO. THAT’S HOW FAST IT WORKS. IT CAN’T COMPREHEND IT’S OWN SPEED. THE BRAIN IS TO MUCH SPEED. TO MUCH I CAN’T AAAAAAAHHHHHH THAT IS SO FREAKIN COOL AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHHHHAHHAHAHAHHHH. I’m such a nerd send help.
