NAOMI SCOTT,  DEMIGIRL,  SHE/THEY.  —  looks  like  MELINOE “LINA” CTHONIUS  is  attending  AURORIA UNIVERSITY  in  auradon.  they're  the  TWENTY  year  old  child  of  HADES & PERSEPHONE,  which  means  they're  from  THE ISLE OF THE LOST.  heard  they're  INTUITIVE  &  CHARMING,  but  can  also  be  RESENTFUL  &  JEALOUS  ;  we all have our bad days.  people  normally  associate  them  with  WILTING FLOWERS, INK-STAINED HANDS, & CHIPPED BLACK NAIL POLISH.

he could tell that she was getting d e f e n s i v e and he didn’t mean for her to b o t t l e up once more. shaking his head at what she said, it was typical for them to blame someone like her, he didn’t blame her for being the way she was at the m o m e n t. “they’re j u s t pulling anyone who can possibly do m a g i c?” he asks, leaning against a bookshelf, he shakes his head o n c e again. “surprisingly no… i’m t r y i n g to get to the b o t t o m of this since the police sure ain’t doing a very g o o d job.” devan mutters. “was it as h o r r i b l e as i i m a g i n e?” 

“ makes you want to do something, doesn’t it ? ” he says, practically muttering the question through gritted teeth. tamu takes a breath and exhales slowly, setting down the pen before he threw it across the room. “ i waited for them to ask about the scientific papers i took. but i could see it in their eyes, if i admitted something – anything – they were ready to pounce. ” he wrung his hands together. 

Doing as she was told, Beth let go of the books, letting them lay. She looked up at the girl, sympathetic smile playing across her lips. This was one who had been called out of class, for interrogation. Beth was still new to Auradon, but in London at least, if someone called you out in front of others, they wanted to make a show of it, maybe a warning or a even for the purpose of humiliation. And she knew that, no matter the circumstances, public humiliation was detrimental to both the accused and the accuser. 

❝ Dat’s alright, ❞ she replied softly, choosing not to bring up the interrogations and instead looking down at the books on the floor. She couldn’t read the titles, but some had illustrations of g h o s t s on the covers, ❝ Ooh, why are ya readin’ dose spooky stories? Don’t dey give ya da heebie jeebies? ❞

          melinoe huffs,  turning around to scan the bookshelves again,  fingers gliding over the spines of the books.    she picks up another book,  one entitled   Phantasmic Ghosts and Where To Find Them,   which,  on a normal day,  would elicit a laugh from her,  but she is much too tired and  angry  to even consider laughing at such a ridiculous title.

         she shakes her head, turning back around again to place the book on the table,  opening it up to the table of contents.     “     not really,  i’m the goddess of ghosts,     ”    she mutters,  much too busy scanning the words on the page before her to look up.     “     ‘sides, ghosts are only scary if you  believe  they’re scary.  fear is all in the mind, after all.     ”

          “  it feels long than that, somehow. oh, i think they’re really nice. one of them gave me cake and another one is helping me with my math homework sometimes - and one of them has a pet bunny that they let me hold !! if you can get past all the pink bows, i don’t think they’re that different from us,” he explained, nose scrunching up as he considers the different auradon kids that he’s met. “ i am trying, you know, to behave. and i haven’t gotten detention yet, so maybe it’s working and they’ll leave me alone.”

        melinoe nods in agreement,  having also felt that she’s been in auradon longer than the two weeks  since she’s stepped foot outside the isle.     “    that’s nice, i guess people here are nicer than what they told us back home,  though  trust me,  there are still a ton of those pretentious hero kids you need to look out for.     ”     she shrugs,      “     and that’s good, too, though i  hate  how we have to be all  nice  all the time just so we could get the guards off our backs,  but i guess it’s the price we have to pay for being in auradon.     ”

“ oh, no, it is not a word the auradonians have befriended, ” she hummed, opening a cabinet and poking her head inside. when she resurfaced with a bag of nuts, she continued: “ it is a word from underland !! or wonderland, as dear alice named it. i much prefer wonderland, but i do still sometimes call it underland because – well, a land by any other name is still as warm as the hearth of your home. ”

lillanelle swayed back to the table the student was at. “ i don’t understand why we would not be allowed. what happens when we want to cook ?  cooking and studying in a kitchen is not simply restricted to daylight hours. how silly. i shall write a letter about it, ” she decided. “ what are you studying ? perhaps i can help ! ”

       she nods slowly,  trying to follow along at the blonde’s words,  though melinoe admits that she got lost at around the mention of  underland.     “     so you call it by two names?    ” she asks, her curiousity getting the better of her.     “    and i’ve never heard of underland before,  let alone  see  it on a map  —  is it  foreign?     ”

           WHEN IT GETS AROUND - thanks to gossiping lips and Luke’s way of easily figuring out the latest info by sheer travel - and they hear her name involved in the many that are under suspicion … well , of course do they have to find her. And when they do , they waste no time in inviting themselves over , sitting next to her and taking a breath. What to say … Sometimes , even for Luke , it isn’t easy. ❝ So … I heard they pulled you in for … ❞ They don’t want to say it , so they don’t. Another pause. ❝ … FOR THE RECORD , I really don’t think you did it. ❞

          she drags her hands through her face,  a soft groan escaping her lips.   she looks ten times as tired as she did earlier that morning,  before she was interrogated.   not only was she  interrogated,  but was summoned  publicly,  as if the universe wasn’t quite satisfied with the daily stares melinoe already gets for being a child of the isle.     “     don’t—  can we not talk about that?      ”     she says,  leaning deeper against the back of the couch,  wanting so bad just to be swallowed by its soft, plush cushions.    “    i’ve already had a long day.  can’t we just talk about something else?     ”

           ❝ TH-THAT’S NOT A GOOD IDEA. MURDER IS NEVER … murder is never a good idea. ❞ Trixie’s quick to reply , shaking her head rapidly and looking from the book to Melinoe. And it’s only after she thinks for a few seconds does she realize it’s more than likely that the goddess is probably joking - but still , sometimes it feels better to state the obvious. Trixie bites her bottom lip. ❝ The only thing I’m fluent in besides English is French … not Greek. ❞ Tongue in cheek , she crosses her arms. ❝ Maybe there’s a book on translating Greek in here somewhere. ❞   

the g l a r i n g was something that he was used to growing up in the i s l e. as he  w a t c h e d her pick up all the books, he knew he probably should help, but he decided against it knowing that it probably would just make her more a n g r y. “well, you s h o u l d know better than to assume that i’d mind my own b u s i n e s s.” he states giving her a look. “i’m c u r i o u s on how it went… you seem to be on the e d g e. did they b l a m e you?”

MELINOE PERSEFONI,  freshman at auroria university, major in ancient studies, minor in philosophy. more information under the cut !

he didn’t m e a n to startle the girl, but found h i m s e l f doing so when he saw that she jumped from his loud c r a s h. “shit, sorry.. didn’t realize you were so j u m p y out of a sudden.” he licked his lips before eyeing her c u r i o u s l y. “why so many books? no offense, but i don’t see you as a book person.” he runs his hand through his hair, charming smile across his lips. “just coming over and a s k i n g how the whole i n t e r r o g a t i o n shit went.”

“ yeah, life’s not fair, is it? ” tamu spun a pen around his finger, lounging about on a chaise in one of auroria’s many sitting rooms. tamu had claimed this room for himself, using it as a sort of waiting room for when lina was going to be done with her interview, ready to accommodate his friend and their similar situations. “ no matter what you do. you’ll still be seen as a certain something. ”

The interrogations had disturbed Beth more than she cared to admit. Auradon was supposed to be a heart-warming, law-abiding, overall good place, and something like the theft of a spell book proved that someone was up to something. Or perhaps not. Maybe, just maybe, it had been an accident, or it had merely been misplaced. After all, these things did happen. 

She wandered into the library, hoping to find someone to discuss this with. Unfortunately, no one was there that she could see  except a pile of books. Noticing that one was slightly crooked, she reached up to try and fix it. Her finger slipped and down came the tower with a startlingly loud crash. 

❝ Oh bloody ‘ell, I am so sorry Miss! ❞ Beth replied quickly, alarmed that there had actually been someone there all along. ❝ ‘ere, lemme just put ‘em back up again… ❞ She fumbled with the books, closing them and shoving them aside to try and find room to build the tower again, ❝ I really ‘ate ta disturb ya, I didn’t know dere was anyone else in ‘ere, truth be told! ❞ 

           melinoe shakes her head,  though her eyes are still narrowed at the girl who had surprised her.  one might say that she was being unreasonably   snippy,  but if they had been through the day  she  had been through,  then they might react the same way as well.  earlier that day,  lina was interrogated by the guards,  called on the speakers in the   middle of class,  then practically   dragged off  to the interrogation area when she refused to go immediately  —  she had  classes,  after all.  so, yeah, it  wasn’t  a good day for her.

           “    just leave it.      ”     she tells the other girl, waving a hand.   she runs her hands through her face,  obviously exhausted.  she had gone to the library  almost immediately  after she had exited the interrogation room,  mortified at having been pulled out in the middle of class,  and offended that she was even  considered  a suspect when there were  (  in her opinion  )  much more suspicious vks.   she had been on her best behavior since she arrived in auroria university,  why was she even  put  on the list of suspects?      “     you don’t have to pile them up,  don’t worry.  and i didn’t mean to snap at you.     ”

Ty didn’t calm down easily; so they let Lina speak while they forced themselves to take a few deep breaths to try and calm down. “Yeah,” Ty begins as they finally speak again. “Plus, we’d have to pretend to be nice to all of them. I don’t know about you but I can’t imagine having to act like Zeus isn’t a loser who cheats on his wife,” at least that was what their father had always told Ty about their uncle, and Ty didn’t bother questioning it. Some would argue that it was a fault how totally Ty believed in their parents and the stories they told, but Ty certainly wasn’t one of them, no matter what remedial goodness attempted to teach them. “Plus like, I don’t need any more family. You know, I’ve got you. I wish mom and dad were here but that’s a little out of our hands for now. So I’m good any way you slice it.”

         a laugh escapes from her lips at ty’s comment at their uncle’s promiscuous ways,  though it falters just the slightest.  her sibling’s remark had reminded her of their father, who used to make offhand comments about his brothers whenever their mother would tell them stories about the gods of the olden days,  of mount olympus,  and of the kingdom they used to rule.    “     yeah, zeus is pretty shitty.    ”    she says, nodding in agreement.     “    you remember mother’s story about the goddesses and the trojan war?  imagine being around messes  like those.    ”     she shrugs, a smile forming on her face as she reaches up to ruffle ty’s hair.    “    i’m good here, too.  wish mom and dad could be here, though.   that’d make this place   so much   better.      ”
