The title of this show is ‘the Earth can’t avoid the Sun’ which is held at YeongCheon artist-in-residence. I stayed for 3 months developing ideas about the connection between everyday life and the universe.

There are 2 exhibition spaces and one of them has 2 entrances which let the sunlight in. By using natural sunlight, I made a site-specific animation. The spiral form, I think, can be found in Nature when the earth revolves around the sun and leaves are grown in different directions.

섬을 구름이라고 착각해서 시작하게된 작업이다. 매일 같은 자리에서 섬을 바라보면서 해무가 끼거나 기온의 변화로 형태가 조금씩 달라지는 것은 관찰했다. 어떤 날은 해저탐사물로, 또는 석유시추선이나 비행장 등의 인공시설물로 그리고 살아움직이는 생물체로 상상되었다. 어떤 대상을 볼 때 그 자체로 보기 보다는 주변과의 관계나 개인적인 경험의 범위 안에서 바라본다는 것이 흥미롭다.

비디오<회색구름>의 소품으로 사용할 해안풍경의 축소모형을 제작했다. 그 중에서 <디오라마1: 원형무대>는 해안절벽, 바위, 스크린 스텐드, 원형의 무대, 인형의 모습을 한 극 중 관찰자를 포함한다. 해안절벽 위에서 바다를 바라보는 두 사람을 그린 진재 김윤겸의 그림에서 형태와 채색방식을 빌려왔다. 원형무대는 길이 되었다가 해안가가 되었다가 전망대가 되기도하는 등 모습을 변화하는 극장과 같이 사용된다. 멀리 있는 섬은 날씨의 변화와 시간대에 따라 달라보이는데 이를 바라보며 작가는 허구가 생겨나는 순간에 대해 생각하게된다. 외부적 요인에 의해 생기는 시각적 착각의 범위와 비교하여, 우주, 죽음, 미래와 같은 경험하지 못할 개념은 누군가의 상상에 의해 컴퓨터그래픽 혹은 디오라마로 표현된다. 섬을 바라보면서 떠올린 허구와 실제의 풍경이 뒤섞이는 상상을 재구성하여 디오라마로 표현했다.
