Ne vs Ni
Which Intuitive function do I use?
The intuitive functions are both perceiving functions, used to make observations and take in information. They value abstract information - patterns, insights, and quick connections between ideas. They prefer âwhatâs behind the curtainâ and are more comfortable with taking filling in the gaps around information, rather than focusing on what they can concretely verify. Â A starting point for determining which intuitive function you use might be this: Are you more interested in quick connections between new ideas (Ne), or exploring an idea down to its intrinsic meaning (Ni)?
Hereâs a quick run-down on the differences:
Strong, healthy Ne is interested in possibility. This makes it good at brain-storming, and making quick connections between new ideas; one idea triggers another and another and another⌠Ne craves novelty, and often has excited bursts of new interests.  It is good at finding creative patterns in the world, and tends to challenge convention.  It likes to experiment and test limits; it might pose a random idea just to see the reaction.  Ne is most curious about âWhat if?â and seeing new connections in the world.
Strong, healthy Ni is interested in deep symbolic meaning  It takes in the world through a meta-perspective, and understands patterns within itself to then understand them in others. This makes it good at seeing how ideas play out down a longer timeline. It tends to be visionary, and has a clear idea of the future it wants. It likes to understand the core âwhyâ behind an idea, and works well with symbolism.  Ni is most curious about getting âAhaâ moments and deeper insights.

ENFP Stereotypes That Make Me Want to Scream and Steam-Roll Everyone in My Line of Vision
oh boy, this is going to be a long ass post because I have a LOT to say.Â
ENFPs are extremely smart and analytical! We often get misinterpreted as ditzy and naive because of how flighty/easily bored we are (which definitely has something to do with our nonexistent attention span). Also just because we lack organization and dislike routine doesnât mean weâre stupid or incapable of critical thinking.Â
ENFPs are actually very introverted & are essentially the epitome of an ambivert. Often times people will mistake us for being very extroverted to introverts because of how easy it is to socialize, while we get seen as introverted to most extroverts since we often need a lot of alone time to process and re-charge.Â
ENFPs arenât overly flirty nor are they partners who would cheat Iâm assuming that this stereotype comes from the fact that we find it very easy to talk to people and often find the people around us interesting and like to listen to them. We also have a tendency to make 543775 friends in one day and then never talk to any of them again which can be seen as flighty or likely to cheat. While itâs true we often move on quite quickly itâs mainly because anyone can easily click with us whereas we have a hard time finding true meaningful connections. So when we do find that special person we tend to be VERY, VERY loyal. Â
ENFPs are not your dream manic pixie girl (sorry I guess???) We just arenât, shut up. Weâre literally just regular people whose personality often comes across as the epitome of ADHD. THATS IT.Â
ENFPs arenât uwu cutesy babies who donât know anything just because weâre nice to most people and donât start drama on purpose doesnât mean we wonât hesitate to obliterate anyone who goes against our morals or beliefs. I have never hesitated to call someone out for being a bitch, and I will have this attitude with me for the rest of my fucking life. Also! just because we tend to come off as happy-go-lucky doesnât mean that weâre dense or stupid weâre literally just FRIENDLY.Â
ENFPs are competitive and fiercely independent Iâm not sure where the stereotype that ENFPs are complete doormats or are in need of constant attention comes from. I honestly have no idea how this started or became a thing since most of us tend to be the complete opposites.Â
ENFPS are always bubbly and happy-go-lucky ENFPs tend to be creative and look for the best possible outcome in situations along with having this âchaotic goodâ mindset. However ENFPs are often critical and tend to go to any length to protect or stick to what they believe is justifiable.Â
ENFPs arenât just loud and annoying this one is hella annoying mostly because itâs as if people are just dismissing us as these rowdy, Labrador-retriever, bimbos AND dismissing our interests entirely. We actually tend to be much more empathetic and are actually very interesting. While yes, we can be loud and annoying, that isnât our core personality, shut up.
pretty boi akaashi
I already have the answer as soon as I saw that askđ, ENFP is your time to shine.
Like akaashi would love to listen to your wild stories or your cool ideas whilst giving your head a little ruffle. Also when he is feeling anxious you would just smother him in praise and cuddles.

mbti for tsuki? i feel like he would get along with someone thats really sweet or as snarky as he is-
I been waiting for this one! Turn it up!
In all seriousness I feel genuinely feel at the bottom of my heart that him with an ENFP would be *chef kiss*
I am very picky when it comes to shipping ENFPs because it is my own type but I just think the dynamic is great.
ENFP have that sweet but savage duality which tsukki is like đđ. He loves being your 'Knight in shining armour' when it comes to you needing help (its just makes him feel important ok đĽşđĽşđĽş).

(I always feel really bad shipping an Hq character with my personality type tho)
Extraverted Intuition is a perceiving function that primarily visualizes possibilities and is very keen to seeing the potential in situations/ideas. Because of the functionâs patented versatility, Extraverted Intuition can be misidentified as Introverted Intuition and/or even Extraverted Sensing. As an example, I am an ENTP (this is Libbi, by the way, hi!) and I mistyped as an INFJ for over four years; even further, more recently I thought I could be ESTP because of how much I related to the descriptions. This may sound ridiculous on the surface, but again, the nature of Extraverted Intuition can seem to mimic other functions, partly because of its adaptable and future-oriented nature. A further example of this is Tony Stark, also an ENTP, yet I have seen him typed as both ENTJ and ESxP, high Introverted Intuition/Extraverted Sensing types. So, in what ways are these functions similar, and what does Extraverted Intuition actually look like so that it is not confused with another function? Those are the questions I intend to answer as I write this description.
Firstly, Extraverted Intuition may look most similar to Extraverted Sensing; both functions act quite adaptable to new situations and allow us to relate ourselves to sensory data in our current environment. Both functions are also known for impulsivity; however, the difference in the two is that Extraverted Sensing draws attention to objects and the user immediately adapts to the surface features of these objects, while Extraverted Intuition draws attention to context and then sensory events are adapted in terms of these contexts. Extraverted Intuition carries a very big picture point of view, one that tends to grasp the gist of a situation based on a few pieces, filling in information intuitively. If you are familiar with psychology (or even if youâre not, because Iâm going to explain it), I think of Extraverted Intuition to be similar to The Law of Similarity (the Gestalt Principles, particularly the Law of Closure). The central principle to the Gestalt theory may be put in adequate summation by this quote from psychologist Kurt Koffka: âThe whole is other than the sum of its parts.â In essence, what this means is that the human eye (and brain) perceive a unified, whole shape differently than it does the individualized parts of this shape, and according to the Law of Closure, if there are gaps in the outline of a shape, our brain automatically fills in these gaps to complete the whole shape, even if they are not literally there. A great example of this is IBMâs logo; even just through the use of horizontal lines and spaces, we can look at it and see the letters I, B, and M. To me, this is similar to Extraverted Intuition; it is able to look at pieces of a situation and fill in the gaps, creating a whole picture understanding. This is part of what makes it so adaptable, and why high Extraverted Intuition users can seem to be naturally good at many different hobbies or activities â however, this is also how it can make mistakes. Since it is an Intuitive function, it does not base these assumptions from concrete evidence, as a Sensing function would be more adept to do; it is more conceptual. I also happen to have a great example that illustrates this faulty-gap-filling-in: one time when I was playing Red Dead Redemption II, I needed to mount my horse, so I went to a horse that, at a glance, was the same color as my horse and in the same general location that I left it⌠but it was only when it bucked me off that I realized it wasnât actually my horse at all (sorry, Arthur). Because of those pieces of information that I saw at a glance, I concluded that it was my horse; the color was right, the general location was right, but if I had taken notice of the exact details (saddle type, exact location), I would have seen that it wasnât. We all do this detail-filling-in to an extent, but it is a core element of Extraverted Intuition, and with inferior Introverted Sensing, the âexact detailsâ piece of a puzzle is a particular blindspot to dominant Extraverted Intuition users.
Another key part of Extraverted Intuition is its tendency to visualize possibilities, and âpossibilitiesâ here is certainly plural. In fact, those with high Extraverted Intuition (particularly dominant) have trouble ever picking to pursue any of the possibilities they visualize for the future, often getting caught up in potential and the fear of abandoning all of the possibilities in the world to stick with just one. Indeed, commitment can be a scary word for high Extraverted Intuition types, whether it be a subject to major in in college or an outfit to wear to an important event. Personally, I have issues with both of those things; I have changed my major three times and, after the excitement of choosing a new subject wears off, I often enter the questioning period once again. This brings me to another point: High Extraverted Intuition users (once again, particularly those who have it as a dominant function) require novelty in their life. Whereas dominant Extraverted Sensing individuals search for new experiences and tangible things, they seek these only in terms of a familiar framework, so they are much less likely to put themselves in totally unfamiliar situations. Extraverted Intuition users enjoy complete novelty in circumstances and get their rush from new ideas and new projects; we have the tendency to come up with these concepts and become very enthused about them only to abandon the idea after the excitement has worn off. Extraverted Sensors are doers; they often go for these experiences and find value in doing things, while those with Extraverted Intuition will have more trouble making their conceptual big ideas come to life and sticking with them, which brings me to yet another point: As I mentioned before, Extraverted Intuition is a future-oriented, conceptual function; people with high Extraverted Intuition are idea-generators, and these ideas are typically ones that alter a system in a way that would overall improve it, or it is a long-term project/conceptual idea. In this way, it can look like Introverted Intuition, which sees goals and potential for the future and works to achieve this future reality. The difference comes from the fact that Introverted Intuition is able to organize one structural/conceptual goal for the future and work to achieve this over time, not minding the wait that comes before the reward. Extraverted Intuition has trouble narrowing down one goal or idea to stick to in order to act it out, and even further, it does not enjoy doing the grunt work that comes with such projects/structural changes. With maturation of the secondary function, responsibility and dedication become much better in ENP types, and they are able to narrow down and follow through with their ideas.
So, to sum up this ridiculously long post, Extraverted Intuition is a future-oriented function based on piecing together big-picture concepts, generating ideas, and visualizing potential in people (Fi) and situations (Ti). It differs from Extraverted Sensing in the way that it is more conceptual and thrives more on ideas than experience and tangible reward, and it differs from Introverted Intuition in the way that it tends to see all possible variants of a situation, thus having trouble picking a goal to stick with and often juggling many goals or projects at once, whereas Introverted Intuition tends to see the goal they want to achieve as well as how they are actually going to achieve it. For dominant Extraverted Intuitives, responsibility and the ability to commit to an idea or goal come with the development of their secondary function (Fi or Ti), and with that, it can become easier for them to make their dreams happen (although having an ISJ around every once in a while is helpful for remembering reality).
Adapted from Lenore Thomsonâs Personality Type: An Ownerâs Manual, and mostly from opinions based on my personal experiences
âENFPs are arguably the most perceptive and intuitive of all 16 personality types when it comes specifically to human relations. In other words, it is very, very hard to bullxxxx us. We do play along with you when we have to, or when we want to know more about you, what was said in a meeting or what you are really thinking, but the truth is, very, very little gets past us. In fact, if we werenât so doggone set on people liking us and trying not to control others, weâd probably be the best CIA and FBI agents. We see right through people; but lo, we want to be liked and that is a part of the personality type that I wish I could shake. It is a weak spot in my estimation. We can sometimes come across as judgmental. Why? Within a minute or two of sitting with an ENFP, most of the time, they already have you figured out. Since other personality types may not have that level of interpersonal intution, we will occasionally make overt judgements about people that make others wonder âHow could you possibly say that about him/her?ââ

Jumping on the bandwagon, can I request a Te and Ti in every stack please? These are so helpful.
Ti-dom: strong ability to work according to experimental logic, a drive toward pure logic, change logical variables mid-project (if Ti senses their approach is not working) and understand complex internal systems (scientific, computer, etc) from the inside out, making decisions based on probability, focusing on the dialogue between a situationâs structural potential and its material realization, focusing on and sticking to what they are good at.
Ti-aux: strong ability to work according to experimental logic, change logical variables mid-project, and understand complex internal systems from the inside out, making decisions based on probability, focusing on a situationâs structural potential and its material realization, but preferring to leap into new projects and exploration, and often turning Ti to exploit a situationâs potential and compete against others for rewards or attention (assuming they can âhackâ people and situations).
Ti-tert: a desire to form an internal system of understanding for things, people, and situations of personal interest to them, often in service of their dominant function. May carefully reason through situations and attempt for logical consistency, wanting to make decisions based on potential outcomes.
Ti-inferior: feeling a strong need to understand things and be understood by others, but often failing to strip down their reasoning into pure logic and consider it in a vacuum for consistency, seeing impersonal systems and judgments without emotional context as âcoldâ and âunfeelingâ or even âbarbaric.â Can use experimental logic (testing logic) to adapt as they go.
---------------------------------------------
Te-dom: demands hard evidence before dealing with a situation, believing something is not real if it cannot be measured. Focused on determining the sequence of events, direct, linear thinking, ease of recognizing stable, recurring impressions. Notices what qualities objects have in common and establishes them as a standard of sequential order. A belief that certain principles of order are âalways trueâ even when applied to a new situation. Emphasis on planning, organization, precise and effective management, and completion of projects.
Te-aux: demands hard evidence before dealing with a situation, focused on determining the logical sequence of events (cause and effect), linear thinking, focuses on what qualities objects have in common and a tendency to apply them to each new situation, emphasis on their desire to complete whatever project their dominant function has taken a personal interest in, effective management, but less concerned with âall or noneâ workaholic behaviors. Prefers to focus on their own projects.
Te-tert: presents factual logic and measures things according to what facts presents themselves, can have cause and effect thinking, operates off logical assumptions, a tendency to hop between projects but a desire to finish one (at the whims of their changeable dominant function), can sometimes back up ethical judgments with logical âproofâ by supplementing their opinion with facts.
Te-inferior: finds impersonal reasoning and rigid logic to be cold, heartless, and distasteful. A constant sense that they should be more organized, finish one thing before they start another, and see projects through rather than letting them fall by the wayside. Can point out otherâs contradictions or logical fallacies while being unaware of their own. Under pressure, becomes blunt and âstates the factsâ of the situation.
Whatâs your opinion about Van Der Hoopâs descriptions of the functions? Especially when he calls Ni1s stubborn and opinionated with its truths and perceptions? Which May mean you donât need to be J in order to be defensive and principled.
1. Most Descriptions of âNiâ Are Not Ni
J. H. van der Hoop's descriptions seem to re-describe Chapter X and add things that he observed then tried to categorize. The IFJ/Fi1 and ISP/Si1 descriptions donât look too wrong (excluding, say, the over-emphasis of âemotionâ for ISP). The perspective of disposition unfolding over time is also interesting. This may be the only one, but the INP/Ni1 description looks misled, sadly.
The Ni1 description doesnât get the real difference between the implied dichotomies (like J/P), or what Ni is. Like C. A. Meierâs interpretation of INPs/Ni1, it mistakes what Jung called INPâs âvisionâ for some kind of definite purpose or determination that, at best, designates some {E}NJs.
Jung used âvisionâ to refer to perception that can be explored or expected. Thatâs what it seems to be in context with its use elsewhere:
â[ENP/Ne1] actually has sensations, but he is not guided by them per se, merely using them as directing-points for his distant visionâ
"[Introverted Feeling is] as it were, continually seeking an image which has no existence in reality, but of which it has had a sort of previous visionâ,
â[Describing Si1] When... several painters undertake to paint one and the same landscape, with a sincere attempt to reproduce it faithfully, each painting will none the less differ from the rest... chiefly because of a different visionâ
This false premise affects the rest of the details. As examples, INPs arenât the type to be famous âgreat spiritual leadersâ or âfounders of religionsâ as in publicly establishing things, and neither Rembrandt nor Beethoven were INPs. (A person of any type can produce amazing work, but the mind/nature behind that work will be whatâs different.)
Most descriptions about Ni rely too much on re-characterizing it through the other traits. The implications of what Ni is (and what it isnât) is too heavy for most interpreters, or they just donât see what is meant by Jung. The perspective is clearly not the âstandardâ one, or one that was concerned with the external presentation as much as strictness of the material, in the unspoken intent and approach, given the difficulty of the subject, etc.
2. Different Types Can Be âStubbornâ With Different Things
Reread the last post about this and think about it. Again, it depends on what is being defended and the why.
- Ps can be "stubborn" when it comes to things that directly follow experience, exposure, or finding. For INP/Ni1, that includes truth, as different from just facts (Te) and more about meaning, reason, a metaphysical/transcendental âabsenceâ, etc.
- Js can be "stubborn" when it comes to matters of principles, decisions, and intent. In any case, "stubbornness" is referring to conscious confidence. For IFJ/Fi1, that includes responsibility, desire, the intended wanting {to do} something, a sort of internal concordance, and probably ideas of the empath (because the âheartâ is universal>localized).
I know, it can all seem like just "finding", but when itâs decided, it's a judgment. The word âstubbornâ better applies to some Js: they decide something and want things to be a definite way, thinking thatâs how those should be. They don't like to compromise values/limits and are more attached to the way/method of doing things.
For Ps, principles have to follow autonomous perception, and they wonât âcompromiseâ forms/relations in a conceptually similar but effectively different way. For IPs, this is internal (known/unknown), but for EPs, this includes the external world (objects/possibilities).
3. More Examples of Dominant/Auxiliary (X1-X2)
For example, some ENPs/Ne1s are âdefensiveâ over âprinciplesâ of change, progress, and advancement, as ends in themselves not filtered by any other kind of principles. (This why some are often arguing over seemingly disparate methods to that.)
That could be a good description of X1: it is the end to itself and builds on itself. What it does in essence, it already does skillfully and canât be not-done. It doesnât take away from without giving something further to itself.
Ne2 for ENJs is not like that: Ne2 is always subject to some direction or principles, so they can actually be more forceful, but that change is limited by goal/purpose or standard/expectation. (For ENFJs, that includes commonality, agreement, etc. before that.) They donât match the ârandom/dispersedâ descriptions as ENPs, and itâs unlikely to see them liking âchange for changeâs sakeâ in the same way unless it doesnât contradict or somehow helps their Te1/Fe1.
So, a âstubbornâ ENP looks like someone that wants to do/motivate/allow, in every way, possibilities and change as its own discovery, promoting those as a sort of ânecessary advanceâ, and not changing this. (Itâs the psychological equal to âthe only absolute is changeâ idea.). A âstubbornâ E{N}FJ (in comparison) could look like someone that refuses to compromise on certain social expectations, ideas, or loyalties that most influence them, and a comparative E{N}TJ is unyielding in putting definite purposes or concepts into action/application.
X4 has an equal âweightâ or importance, which is something that types wonât compromise and, if they donât neglect it, want to go all right. Those ENPs, for example, wonât compromise what they find as utility (including âenergiesâ and experience), even if the changes they bring produce things removed from that (not useful or not considering long-term care). Then those E{N}FJs do something similar with identified concepts (including identity), those E{N}TJs with intangible desire/guilt (including self-judgment). This is excluding the projection of these.
That happens with the INFs and Te4 vs. Se4, the ISTs with Fe4 vs. Ne4, and every other example.
