Whipping his head around towards the sound of a familiar voice, he had a momentary bout of dizziness before his eyes focussed on Don and he smiled. āHello!ā
Swaying a little, he drained his glass and skipped over to join Don, setting his empty on the table behind her. āHow are you?ā He blinked slowly, tilting his head and looking at her like an expectant puppy. ā Whatās that youāre drinking?ā
He didnāt really need another drink, but the glass in Donās hand had fruit and was an interesting shape.
She crossed her legs to leave him more room. Then she laughed, albeit quietly, turning her face away to hide it. "Boy, you look pleasantly wasted."
Ah, yes. "Pomegranate margarita. Or something, I'm pretty sure the bartender put a little something of his own on it, some Andorian drink. It tastes really good. I'd give you some, but," Don eyed him. "I don't know if I should give you anything else."
"Alright, I hate the chipmunk ones, too. If you can evenĀ findĀ a station that isnāt playing this stuff, then go ahead.āĀ
"I never got tired of this stuff." She scrolled through her PADD for a moment, leaning back in her chair. "Got even less tired of it when I was away from home, since it meant going back. But it isĀ more exciting around kids.āĀ
An impossible task, perhaps. One she was willing to carry out as long as no more shrill little voices pierced her ears once more.Ā
She smiled. "Because they still have some of that little spark of pure joy around. Although I've seen it around here, with a few people," that little helmsman kid, for example.Ā
Don tapped at the station, brow slightly furrowed in concentration. "If you don't mind me asking, should we still be around here by then, would you home?"
"My station, my rules. Why, you donāt like Christmas?"Ā
God damn it.Ā
"Kinda. Only when I'm with my family," she muttered. "Little kid's Christmas joy is contagious, I guess.
"Come on though. I've heard about two chipmunk covers of the red nosed reindeer."

"Youāve had the Christmas radio on non-stop for five hours."
"I'm begging you. Please. Please, switch it or shut it."
Being grounded on Earth was getting boring, Eiros didnāt do well when he was bored. The current mood of the crew didnāt help matters either, which was why he found himself drinking of an evening more frequently than heād ever done before. It didnāt take much to get him mellow, just a couple of glasses of wine muffled the noise enough for him to relax. Which was exactly what he was doing just then, swaying to the music by himself, much like Groot would.
Why she kept going to the damn bar was beyond Don's understanding. It was loud, and sometimes whoever happened to be absolutely wrecked made it even worse.Ā
But there she was. It was like a magnet, or something, there had to be a logical but awfully silly explanation behind her visits.
It was probably the margaritas.Ā
Like the one she held between her fingers as she sat by her own, her foot tapping at the air to the rhythm of a song. Quite catchy, dare she say-- oh, Jesus. Was that the guitar boy?
"Hey," she called from her spot, raising her glass. "Just don't fall to the floor."
You and I both know what we did that night, in this very office.Ā
Send āslurred wordsā to hear my muse describe yours whilst ridiculously drunk.
Strat didnāt know what it was that brought him into the nice thrum that was crowds. The man enjoyed the pulse that buzzed about the air of a room full of intoxicated people. Nah, this wasnāt as bad as some of his other hide outs, considering he was still on a Starship, and everything here was relatively legal, but even after twenty yearsā nothing had really changed.Ā
It didnāt even matter what he did, he just liked knowing that the little bleep on his screen - the thing that indicated another starship out there in space, was not just an immaterial thing. Their little blip? All the bodies in this room, and on the other decks. It was easy to forget, being a Captain. Now, he didnāt protect these people - nah, he was just another body inside the machine now.
Though on less deep and foreboding thoughts, Strat was actually here because he could get a good signal from Earth. The helmsman was on his PADD, waiting on Jesus to show up, and was watching a football game he could only get within Earthās Orbit. But Zues- wellā Strat had guessed about thirty minutes ago, had blew him off, which was fine with him. They were supposed to play dominoes, and usually when two of them ever did anything, it seemed like half the ship would show up. Right now, however, he was flicking his PADD screen, trying to get the archaic sensor to pick up a better signal, when some stranger with a mop of hair shuffled in next to him. Alfred didnāt even look up, his brow furrowed in concentration as he was trying to decipher who was uniform was on the screen. He really hoped that yellow card wasnāt his team. He frowned deeply.
"In my experience," Alfred said to the new stranger, slowly, and with weight. "People donāt come up here for quiet, but hey - I donāt judge. Promise me whatever youād like to make that seat comfortable," he said, frowning as he flicked the screen with a large thumb and forefinger. Well shit, he was pretty certain another point was scored.
To be talked to, or hold the smallest of conversations, wasn't exactly what she had expected. But there she was. The flask frozen midair, halfway to her lips as her eyes flickered to him again.Ā
She disliked him at first sight. Nothing uncommmon, really, especially because she'd quickly learned that any man who spoke to her like that might as well be a complete and utter bastard. Only that the scotch urged her to maybe just maybe give it a shot. It wouldn't hurt her, would it.
Then again, she was speaking before she could stop herself.Ā
"Well people don't come here to wath football matches either," she said, raising her eyebrows. "Only to get fucked up. In my experience."Ā
She frowned, chastising herself (but only a bit), before she drank some more. "Who's playing?"

Not even the cool metal of the flask in her hand seems to soothe her. There was only so much shooting she could do with Aria, the sweet lovely girl (who was definitely hiding somethingĀ but she didn't know what). There was only so much drinks she could handle too, but did that matter?
Certainly not, Don decided as the burning scotch went down her throat.Ā
The two men behind her laughed at something. Loud, cheerful laughter. She rolled her eyes, standing up to sit in a more quiet corner of the room. Not that she objected to their happiness. Those kids could do whatever they wanted for all she cared. It just wasn't exactly the ruckus she wanted to be around at the moment.
With a tired little sigh, she slumped in her spot and crossed her arms. The look she got from the person by her side didn't go unnoticed. "I'll be quiet, I promise. Keep on doing whatever it is you're doing."
"No, no, of course notā" she gestures downwards, but decides not to try to show her the unfortunate sight. "Just a mouse. IĀ reallyĀ hope it wasnāt anyoneās.āĀ
"Well, heĀ isĀ trained to hunt. But heās also myā¦friend, companion, I donāt know.ā She scratches the birdās neck to calm him, and as a bit of praise. Even though sheĀ reallyĀ had to keep him from going off like that, lest something else got killed. āSee, I donāt have his hood on him. I didnāt really expect him to find anything.āĀ
"Anyway. Sorry, Ms. Porter. This is Nico."Ā
Oh. Well, Don certainly relaxes once she learns the true nature of... the thing, now, or half of it anyway. It's certainly heartbreaking to think of Titus dying, at the hands of a big bastard such as that bird, but she refuses to keep thinking of that and instead crosses her arm to examine them both.
It's pretty, she'll give it that. Nice feathers and even nicer beak, definitely powerful.Ā
"It's okay. As long as he doesn't mess up my workplace, or gets anywhere near my fish," and here she points menacingly at the bird, a warning, "then he should be fine. Alright?"
"Nicoā"
Before she can do much else, she watches as the bird leaves her arm. He never leaves unless thereās something ahead, and part of her fears itās someoneās cat or tribble orĀ something, until she hears an unmistakeable sound, talons scuffling against smooth tile.
"Nico." She drops to a squat, holding out her arm, and the hawk jumps obediently. She catches a glimpse of his prey; a white mouse, not any bigger than her finger. Maybe someoneās lab experiment. Nico rouses towards her, brown and white feathers on display, and then goes to work on the mouse. "Come on. Thatās gross."Ā
Gretchen hears someone behind her, and she gets up carefully and turnsāhe doesnāt like it when people stand from behind in the field, and she canāt imagine what itās like in the hallways of a starship. āSorry. Didnāt know he was going to run off like that.āĀ
She's startled. OfĀ courseĀ she is, it's not every day she sees a goddamn bird around flying like it's no one's business, dropping feathers all over the place (granted, she doesn't see any feathers around, but still). A falcon, or whatever it is. That's why she sticks to fish, instead of any tiresome-ish pets. They're soothing and won't go around-- what's that on its beak?
Don looks around, and frowns as she catches sight of the responsible for her minor moment of troubling thoughts. These kids in this ship, they're gonna be the death of her.Ā
"Isn't it too crowded for it here?" She finds herself asking instead of why the hell do you carry around one of those things. To each their own, maybe? Jesus.Ā
"I sure as hell hope that isn't a fish in it's mouth."
TR-116 Projectile Rifle
Ariaās impressed with the shot. It was hard to tell where exactly it hit with the target already shot to pieces, but if she had to guess it was pretty close to the center bullseye.Ā
Aria thinks back trying to remember the first time she ever held a gun. It had been a long time ago, but the memory was as clear as day. It was right after she turned sixteen. Mark, her stepfather who was the captain of the U.S.S. Strident, allowed her to hold his phaser and take a few practice shots in their backyard. It was how she fell in love with weapons in the first place.Ā
The memory reminds her also that four months later that terrible night happened, but she pushes those back, swallowing hard. āI was sixteen years old. I got to shoot a few cans off a fence with a phaser.āĀ
"How about yourself?"Ā
"About the same age, if not younger, but only because my mom didn't know I was doing it," otherwise she would have not survived the woman's anger. The mere thought was amusing enough for her to laugh softly, as she kept inspecting the gun.Ā
"I wanted to shoot a boy who kept teasing me and pulling on my hair. Unfortunately I never had a chance to do it."
She shrugs, turning in order to shoot again. "Where are you from, child?"

TR-116 Projectile Rifle
"I agree to that," Aria states wholeheartedly. "Itās the trouble that you get into after that isnāt." Aria rarely lost in the fights she managed to get into. That rage that she so carefully watched had gotten her into serious trouble once or twice with the police.Ā
An amused smile spreads over her lips as she watches Don run a finger over the rifle. āI hope so. Guess thatās my next agenda.āĀ
Aria steps aside, leaving the range open to her, āGo for it.āĀ
"Oh, you're a sweetheart," she says, throwing her an even bigger smile, before she turns and places the headset on. It gets a little hot, she supposes it's because of the abuse it went through before she got there, but it's bearable.Ā
A moment of silence fills the air between them as she holds up the weapon, carefully aims, and fires.Ā
"When was the first time you held a baby like this, Aria?" She grins-- the target is gone, but she saw it hit pretty well. So it counts. "And I mean a gun."
You tell me that you didnāt lie because we never directly asked you the question, and I will knock your head off.
