So over the past 10-15 years, as I’ve been trying to branch out, grow a following and sell commissions, there’s one phrase I’ve heard more than any other.

“I’d love to support you, but I have no money.”

And you know, I get that. I understand. I don’t have any either. But here’s the secret. The most powerful and useful thing you can do to support an artist? It doesn’t cost a penny. Reblog their posts, signal boost their commissions, advertise their patreon./ If you have commissioned them, or do support their patreon? Write a review, tell your friends, share their links. Keep circulating the tapes.

Every post is an artist laying themselves bare before you. You have the power to make them into somebody. You can make them into a big name, you can help bring them an income. All you have to do is share.

If artists get only likes, they never get any exposure. They find no followers, they make no money, and feel worthless.

But with reblogs, who knows how far they could reach? New people could see their work and follow them, and maybe one person will spot that commissions post or patreon promo, and maybe offer to help support them. And it didn’t even cost those followers a penny to reblog the post.

This doesn’t work if you repost art.

I was rather surprised I got drowned in compliments and that multiple people were surprised it was hidden by the readmore cut, so ah...here?

I’ve explained to them that my photos have been used many times to mock me on social media (hell, it’s the fucking reason I was left my fucking school), but not only that, I’m EXTREMELY dysphoric. Pictures make me look very feminine, and family doesn’t care if I try to hide my chest or chub, they take pictures even if I’m layer back and not feeling bad about myself because ‘my cat is cuddling me’ (this happens everyday, btw, my cat cuddles me like a kid with her dad- but when it happens everyday, we don’t need fucking photos everyday). It makes me SO uncomfortable. Like I was laying in an unflattering position, my cat is laying on me in a way that makes me chest look bigger, my shirt is stretched in a way that makes me look feminine, my double chin is clearly in view, and my hair is a mess. Yes it’s vain of me, but it’s also selfish of them to want to take photos when I finally get the courage to go into the living room because I was feeling good, a rare occurrence, and now I feel extremely self conscious, thanks.

I tell them ‘no photos, please’ and they say ‘Oh I won’t post it :3’ I don’t CARE. How about you take photos when I’m, oh idk, actually okay with it? How about not when I’m just relaxing in the house in a ‘cute way’ or whatever. How about when I’m out happily in public and leaning INTO the photos instead of hiding and looking sad?

genuinely how is that so hard? I get scrapbooking, but this is a whole other fucking level. They don’t fucking LISTEN when I tell them to STOP. “Please don’t” MEANS DON’T FUCKING TAKE A PHOTO OF ME. I don’t understand why that’s SO FUCKING HARD?
