All things ENTJ

I have definitely noticed this. As an ENTJ myself, I feel basically the same way. When I see people getting drunk and acting like idiots, or doing something incredibly stupid for no good reason, I really don’t understand.  I don’t mind taking calculated risks if I have a good reason for doing so but pointlessly doing something like that is not my idea of fun.

Despite this, I would also mention that, being an ENTJ doesn’t mean that you can’t do those kind of things and enjoy them. I  have no problem with going out for the occasional drink or doing some sort of adrenaline-filled activity. Generally, I think we get much more enjoyment out of intellectual and conversational stimulation though, so most of us won’t do these things often.

Sometimes I think ENTJs can get caught up in their intuitive and extroverted traits and this can make them a little silly at times too. I think we are just much less likely to do things that we really know can harm us, like smoking cigarettes, doing drugs, or something similar. In fact, if an ENTJ is doing things like those on a regular basis it’s probably a sign something might be wrong. We are just too logical and care too much about self-preservation to engage in really harmful, pointless, and frankly, stupid pastimes.

What, almost two years later to say this is bullshit. I smoke weed weekly and my Ni/Se fucking loves it.

ENTJs have Se in their function stack so they will often (especially young ones) very much enjoying letting go and having a little fun. It very much depends on the person, but for many ENTJs it allows them to loosen up in a way they normally can’t.

As a young ENTJ, I often get caught in Te - Se loops - going from a workaholic to a reckless partier in seconds. I’d like to think I’m smart about it but just because you’re an ENTJ does not mean you can’t have fun, or make stupid decisions. Weed helps me unwind from my Te, and remember to be a person and connect with my Ni/Se, and even Fi.

Enneatype 1

Children with the One pattern try hard to be good. They have an unconscious feeling of needing to justify their existence. They became their own disciplinarians and often the discipliner of other siblings.

One or all authority figures are either inadequate, not present, or too demanding and punitive. When the parent is not present, they decide to make their own rules and moral code. When the parent is too punitive, they internalize these rules.

They feel deep guilt, intrinsic inner flaw, and try to cover it up with an identity of being good and responsible. They can perceive others as having less integrity, being lazy and messy.

Enneatype 2

Children with the Two pattern learn to put other’s needs first - to give in order to receive - and that love must be earned. They try to read the needs in the family and see how they could fulfill them.

They often learn to please the opposite sex parent and this becomes a special relationship, which causes a difficult relationship with the same sex parent. It also leads to a triangulation, which is often carried out in adulthood.

Enneatype 3

Children with the Three pattern do not feel valued for themselves. They get praise for what they do and become productive to get this praise.

They often unconsciously adapt themselves to become what the nurturer wants them to be. They often pursue a career that may make their nurturer proud of them.

They have a deep feeling of shallowness and deceit, their insides do not match the image they have created.

Enneatype 4

Children with the Four pattern feel different than their parents. They believe they are not seen by their parents.

There is the feeling that they were kicked out of the nest because there is something tragically wrong with them. Often there is some event that changes the family structure and stands out as the event that changed everything.

Some remember a time when everything was wonderful and a moment when they were rejected for no apparent reason. They spend their childhood trying to regain love by being special.

Enneatype 5

Children with the Five pattern feel unsafe in their families. They experience their families as intrusive and overwhelming. There is no privacy, no where to hide except in their minds.

They experience the emotional needs and expression of their parents as invasive. Some create an inner fantasy world.

Enneatype 6

Children with the Six pattern experience their parents as inadequate and unable to protect or care for them well. Early in childhood they feel safe, as they get older something happens that makes them perceive their parents as inadequate.

Usually this occurs during the phase of separating when they need a strong parental figure to show them what is and isn’t safe about the world. At this time they experience parent(s) as inadequate - absent, unavailable, weak, etc.

Enneatype 7

Children with the Seven pattern feel cut off from the nurturer, causing frustration and anxiety. They feel there was not enough love for them in the family.

Sometimes there is someone needier who requires more attention. Sometimes the nurturer is distracted by emotional pain to give to all the children.

Their role is to be positive, not need much, and help everyone be happier, particularly the nurturer. As adults they often have a close bond with their mothers.

Enneatype 8

Children with the Eight pattern grow up quickly for a variety of reasons. There is violence in the family or around the family. The protector is missing and they must protect and provide for the family at a young age.

They survive in bad neighborhoods - survival issues are important. It is not safe to be gentle or giving, that seems weak and soft. They feel rejected/betrayed and learn to be tough.

Enneatype 9

Children with the Nine pattern feel overwhelmed by their families. They try to disappear and/or make peace. They dissociate from drama by becoming invisible or mediating.

What I noticed and observed about them: (FOUR FEMALES & 1 MALE)

They can talk to adults so flawlessly despite how young they are. Their maturity level is definitely high up there. If you’re friends with them, you’ll be able to get away with anything (they’ll back you up with their conversation skills).

All the ENTJs I know have loud, clear, and deep voices (even the females). When they’re talking about something, almost everyone in the room knows about it. 

You’ll be able to see their noisy and crazy side when they’re with their friends. They may even end up looking childish, which may seem pretty rare. 

They are/were probably known for several leadership awards or student council stuff in school. They like to get all sorts of things written in their resume. The more, the merrier. 

They may have this mature and independent vibe– because as children, they were most likely put on some kind of pressure to grow up quick. Most of the ones I know grew up with parents with high expectations. Another one I know didn’t even grow up with parents… Tough childhoods definitely make tough people.

They get super insecure when they can’t do something. It hurts watching them look so helpless because they’re usually so well-poised. But they really take it to heart when they take awhile to learn something–or are unable to fix a problem. 

They are private about their love life but keep mentioning little bits and pieces of it for the world to wonder. If you ask about personal things, they’ll tell you about it but leave out a lot of details and just give you a big and blurry picture. You have to be considered a close friend to know the juicy parts. 

The ones I know are quite materialistic when it comes to clothes and looks. They have an eye for fashion and manage to look classy even in plain clothes. Quality matters, the brand matters, but the price doesn’t matter. (Unless it’s a totally unreasonable price)

I noticed how they enjoy inviting and gathering people together–even those they aren’t close with. This is how they express their warm and friendly side. They make great hosts and love making sure that everyone is feeling comfortable and at home. 

The ENTJ females I know are advice-givers. They really know how to take in the problems of people and are willing to figure out ways to solve them–using order and practicality. They are considered the mother-figures. 

They are trustworthy and reliable people. They will always find a way. If they can’t take action–they will easily talk their way through it. 

If there’s ever an awkward silence, they like to fill it in with stories. Embarrassing stories about their close friends, especially. That’s another childish thing about them that is rare to catch–they love poking fun at their friends. 

When ENTJs stare at you, it feels like they’re inspecting you. Yes, they’re staring into your eyes–but they’re not exactly staring deep into your eyes. I’m not sure how to explain, but their stares may seem intimidating… and well, they’re probably just not aware of it. (And that’s okay, it’s totally understandable) 

When they compliment you, they really make you feel special. ENTJs are sincere folk–so feel glad when they say something positive about you! Next thing you know, you’re feeling all “high and mighty.” Their approval is just the best thing ever. It’s like their way of expressing that they’re “cool with you.”

They love posting on social media. Posting pictures of their achievements and trophies and certificates. Memories of getting together with their family or large group of friends. Or posting a picture from a time when they were coincidentally walking on the same grounds as some celebrity while they were strolling around some expensive mall.

They are excellent multitaskers when it comes to both thinking and talking. They can do both at the same time– like, it doesn’t take them awhile to think things through before saying the right things aloud. They are quick thinkers in that way and if ever they do say something wrong, they can correct themselves in an elegant manner. Such skill. 

When they talk to people, they perform a quick analysis in their heads about the person they are currently talking to–making sure they know their background so that they can find a perfect topic to talk about. Again, such skill.

Every action they do has some sort of motive and has to bring them somewhere “farther in life.” Whether it’s adding more meat to the knowledge they have, or about planning a next get-together with a group of friends, or about a plan that will lead them closer to where they want to be. They live with purpose and efficiency. 

When an ENTJ is alone, they look like a totally different person. You may catch them looking “not present in the world” since they are most likely thinking about something way too hard–and have no one to share their thoughts to at the moment. (This is due to their second function, Ni–them internalizing their ideas and thinking about the future).

 They usually end up as the leaders of the group and may seem bossy– but they really just want to make things easier for everyone. They have good intentions for the group. (Similar to ESFJs) But if they aren’t the leaders, they’re usually the ones helping the leaders. After all, they have the potential. They just have to use their powers (functions) right.
