I personally don’t think that Dafran is as toxic as peak xQc, but he is/was very toxic nonetheless and has a very big personality like xQc. He has done a great deal of shitty things like throw games, boost, etc. A lot of people think that he throws away every chance he gets to make it really big (his time with Selfless, when he was brought on as a streamer for NRG, his time in OWL).
Dafran kinda has a cycle for his personality down. He’ll be good for a while, get burned out, go on a “I hate everything and everyone” phase, and then be good again. Because of this, a lot of people have been trying to get Dafran help.
Every time he’s on a pro team, OWL or otherwise, he gets burned out because he can’t mentally take the toll something like that brings mentally. He leaves, and then gets toxic and then gets disciplined for being a shithead, and then works on trying to become a better person which the cycle starts again.
Excuse me if I have my stuff mixed up, but he has depression and/or bipolar? I’m not sure, but apparently he hasn’t been diagnosed. It is rumored that the number of times he’s threatened to quit before he left the team was because of his mental illness. He threatened to quit before the season started back in November. He has noted on stream before that he has threatened to quit fairly early into the season before the team psychologist talked to him and helped him out. He’s even noted himself that he has really large mood swings because of his mental state.
Last year during OWWC time, he was banned from Overwatch because I believe this was when he was softthrowing as Lucio in his matches. Because of this, a virtual unknown was awarded the community lead role that was based on voting. A lot of people knew that Dafran had been in first place and there was a lot of shady business that apparently went down. (Allowing someone on the ballot even though they were banned and you would give it to second place anyway.)
He used to be on Selfless the same time as sinatraa from the SF Shock, and he would get compared to his teammate for how toxic he was in and out of game. He has thrown in tournaments as well. He got in a great deal of trouble back when he was on Selfless as well for it (even though the match was loss anyway.) The infamous Genji on Oasis stuff happened apparently because he was playing an anime dating simulator (and it got X-rated too oof). He threw and started telling people who watched his stream to throw too. The whole thing would eventually be known as OverwatchISIS or alternatively #throwfordafran.
When he was on Selfless, he was banned and eventually suspended from the team for the Genji stuff and the throwing as Lucio. Selfless informed the public they will be “assisting” Dafran with finding the “help, counseling, and guidance that he needs to improve his mental and emotional well-being”. He also took to twitter and wrote a statement that started out with: I honestly do not give a shit what happens to me and my fucking career, you can all go fuck yourselves. He also said that he deserved what not only Selfless did with suspending him, but also what the League passed down as punishment. He eventually went back home to Denmark and took like a 4 month leave from streaming and OW in general. Because of his time with Selfless and the popularity from the banning, he started pulling 5k+ with his streaming when he came back. A lot of people think that was sort of the beginning of a redemption arc because he was super nice to people he was playing with and his chat. He would troll around and shit, but he was super chill to watch.
Fast forward a couple years, and he eventually made OWL (due to a large part of their head coach who used to be the coach of Selfless). He and Brad, who is the coach of Atlanta sort of have a relationship that some people compare to Hastr0′s relationship with xQc last season. He sees the best in him, and wants to help let that shine through. People sort of questioned him being in OWL because for a while, Dafran was talking about how much he hates the game and how much he hates GOATS, and the cycle of self-destruction started again. (In no order) He started flirting with Aspen, who is 16, on stream(??). He said some stuff that could be seen as transphobic. He lashed out at Poko on twitter. He was streaming from a name that a lot of people saw as racist because it had to do with the whole trihard/catchme debacle that started with xQc last season.
Some of his recent streams have been a decent give away that he hasn’t been doing well mentally either.
A lot of people (and more popular people associated with OWL/Contenders like ZP and Monte) think that Dafran is super excellent at the game (which he is), but at the same time they also think that something like OWL/Contenders isn’t something for him because of the mental stress it brings, and because of this stress, it affects his attitude and he becomes a shithead.
