HEADCANONS
literally has the worst fashion sense known to men. mamoru can often be spotted in blazers, turtlenecks, sometimes both on workdays. on the occasion of a bright summer day or if he's just hanging out with a friend, you'll probably see him in a short - sleeved button up, maybe even jeans! this man may wear a muscle tee every once in a while, but you'll never catch him in shorts. he's always dressed a little 'old' for his age, which has to do with my next headcanon.
because mamoru lost his parents at such a young age, he never really had much of an adult figure that filled in where his family should be. he did rely on the kindness of the adults of evermore, who were always happy to take care of the young boy, but he didn't have a family. this led to him having to grow up way before he should have and he eventually came to the conclusion that if he wanted to be treated as an adult, he'd have to portray himself as one. that included dressing the part, developing a taste for complicated and boring thing, so on.
one thing he always found enjoyment in was learning about people, which is why he chose anthropology as a major and career. his grades were always great, as focusing on his education helped keep his mind away from the strange dreams he had. it was a distraction, but also a purpose. he assumed it was what his parents would've wanted for him. i believe that there's also a part of him that hopes to find the answers he's looking for through research and everything's he's learned so far.
mamoru is absurdly connected to nature, it greatly affects his mood. he enjoys being in the outdoors, especially surrounded by trees, plants, etc. while he doesn't talk about it much, he's a bit of a flower enthusiast; red roses are his favorites. he finds that his mood usually stagnates during the winter, and he always feels a boost of energy and confidence in spring and summer.
mamo has been around the block, if you know what i mean. while he doesn't date indiscriminately and is definitely not a fuckboy, he has been in a few relationships, forever trying to find the girl (princess? he's not sure) plaguing his dreams. it's incredibly frustrating, as he feels he can never completely fall in love with someone until he finds her, despite genuinely caring about his exes.
he can be so snarky, genuinely has a good time making fun of the people he cares about and teasing them. it's part of his love language. he's also a very reliable friend despite what one might think. if mamoru believes in you, then he *really* believes in you and will fight by your side until the end of time.
people closer to him will know that he really likes video games, but he can be very picky about those. big fan of stuff like dark souls, likes to brag about beating it. honestly he has such a huge inner child that comes out from time to time when he's around the people he cares about and i just think that's so. special.
has a very complex love-hate relationship with the moon. he always sleeps facing his window, facing *her*, but its something he does without even thinking. sometimes he finds himself just gazing at the moon while deep in thought about something that's been bothering his mind or even if he's at peace, relaxing after a long day, his eyes will drift to the moon. sometimes he feels as though she's watching him, which can get a little frustrating but all in all, he has a relationship of sorts with the moon.
has a star-shaped pocket watch that he's carried in his pocket ever since he was a kid. sometimes he thinks the mysterious lady from his dreams is the one who gave it to him, but that's just not possible.
about tuxedo mask ! i'm not gonna write any major headcanons about him just yet bc i'd rather discuss stuff with our sailor senshi first because tuxedo mask is v connected to them, especially usagi / sailor moon. but he's here and he's alive and he's definitely a thing. you might spot him standing atop a building at night. mamo's vigilante arc !
