with a sigh ( and a fond smile ), jean closes the gap between them. a quick kiss is pressed against his lips in greeting and then, like a queen atop her throne, she takes a seat on scott's lap. with her arm now draped around his shoulders, her fingers gently dance along the back of his neck.

“ you want to tell me what's going on in that pretty head of yours, or do i have to find out for myself? ”

( she's joking, of course. )

If anything, Scott almost prefers it. Hank claims it's an issue that'd lead to some eventual codependency, but how could Scott not want it? He's never felt safer than when Jean was part of him, living in him; for all that he's fucked in the head, she's never thought him ugly, and there's a security in that. Something empowering.

"I'm just tired," Scott says, "I think." He leans forward, resting his temple on Jean's shoulder, and sighs.

"I hate talking to the press. All the things they might take out of context... we have to make this place look good, Jean. A place parents would trust their kids in."

Scott's arms tighten around Jean's waist.

Jean understands where he's coming from. Reporters and viewers alike are always looking over everything that they say with a fine-toothed comb, all trying to find something to hold against them. Some excuse to turn against them. It's happened before and it will happen again. But the thing is, when it comes to talking about the school, there's no one better than Scott, regardless of what he may think.

Charles chose him as the leader for a reason, after all.

Jean leans down, kissing the top of his head.
