Fearless Leader

I just wanted to say that as a black swiftie who has experienced countless forms of racism from strangers, from friends, and even from family, that I’m not mad at Taylor, nor will I plan on cutting her out of my life. Everyone is arguing that Taylor should do more and that’s fair, she can do more and maybe she should, but do you have any idea how thankful I am for what she has done?

It’s hard to describe how I’ve felt this last week in so many words. I’ve been sobbing on the couch, losing motivation, and continuing to worry for my life while so many people remain silent during this movement. Half of my family is white and they’ve been having the time of their lives while everyone is working from home. They celebrate the weekend, go on trips to the lake, praise trump and leave me out of every family event unless it’s a holiday. All the while they’re remaining completely silent on this issue and that hurts so much. Some of my closest friends are only posting “All Lives/ Police Lives Matter Too” and hey that’s on me for having those friends and that’s changing, but it still kills me inside to see how much they don’t care, and so blatantly at that. But when I see that Taylor Swift makes a post slandering Trump/calling out his racism and makes donations to the black people who need it, then I suddenly feel like a have a white family member who cares. Even if they’re scarce, every single post and statement that Taylor has made to fight racism has helped heal my heart from all the damage that’s been done from racism around me. In a world where I expect to get shot and I expect other black people to die unjustly, seeing someone as large as Taylor Swift talking on our behalf means more than some can understand. She’s a breath of fresh air when I see how many people are actively ignoring the issue.
