𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖'𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤     /     𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙖'𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤

           hearing  him  tease  her  would  always  let  the  warmth  to  rise  to  her  cheeks  and  this  time  wasn’t  any  different .  biting  her  bottom  lip  and  shaking  her  head  a  bit ,  she  moved  her  gaze  back  to  him  and  as  soon  as  she  saw  the  grin  on  her  face ,  one  appeared  on  hers  too .  typical .     “  well ,  guess  that’d  make  you  the  king  of  it  soon .  ”     even  though  they  were  running  away  from  the  wedding  preparations  for  the  day ,  it  was  clear  there  was  no  escaping ,  not  really .  seeing  how  fast  he  began  to  drive ,  she  raised  her  brows  at  him ,  the  grin  still  present .     “  if  i’d  known  you  liked  the  beach  this  much ,  i  would’ve  taken  you  there  more  often .  ”

          she’d  told  charlie  that  she  wouldn’t  be  outside  when  it  was  late  into  the  night ,  yet  she  couldn’t  help  it .  knowing  charlie’s  team  would  be  patrolling  around  she  felt  safer  and  thought  she’d  be  safe  heading  over  to  the  cullens’ .  as  soon  as  she  caught  a  glimpse  of  the  familiar  figure  her  pace  quickened ,  thus  broke  a  branch  under  her  feet  which  caused  her  to  stop  in  her  tracks  upon  seeing  his  reaction .     “  it’s  me ,  ”     she  said  calmly,  stepping  out  from  the  shadow .  with  a  sigh ,  she  added .     “  of  course .  charlie  is  out  working  on  it  still .  it’s ...  terrible .  ”     she  swallowed  the  lump  in  her  throat .     “  do  you  really  think  it  was  a  bear  attack ?  ”

          the  recent  events  was  quite  the  shock  for  everyone  and  as  much  as  lara  was  devastated  like  anoyone  else ,  she  was  also  quite  curious .  perhaps  her  majoring  in  journalism  was  to  blame  but  she  couldn’t  help  herself  going  after  this  case .  something  didn’t  feel  right  and  if  there  really  was  something  else  going  on ,  she  was  determined  to  find  out .     “  that’s  what  i’d  been  saying .  something  just  doesn’t  feel  right .  ”     lara  commented  with  a  sigh ,  trying  to  focus .     “  maybe  we  could  search  around  as  well .  look  for  other  clues  that  were  not  in  the  immediate  scene .  ”

          as  soon  as  charlie  broke  the  silence ,  bella  knew  what  was  coming .  she  could  not  blame  him  for  saying  that ,  though .  she  could  easily  understand  his  concerns  and  with  all  the  things  she  knew  that  he  didn’t ,  bella  should  have  been  even  more  worried  than  him  about  all  this .     “  it’s  okay ,  i  won’t  be  outside  too  late .  i’ll  be  careful ,  don’t  worry .  ”     after  all ,  she  was  aware  of  the  real  danger .  leaning  against  the  counter  with  a  sigh ,  she  looked  back  at  him .     “  any  news ?  ”

          “  it’d  be  too  cheesy  if  i  said  anywhere  would  be  alright  with  you ,  right ?  ”     she  knew  damn  well  that  it  was ,  yet  this  was  just  how  they  were .  with  a  soft  chuckle  she  shook  her  head  and  pursed  her  lips  in  thought .     “  maybe  we  could  head  over  to  the  beach ?  today’s  weather  is  not  quite  ideal  for  many  people  to  be  around .  ”

          as  soon  as  he  gave  in ,  lara  let  out  a  little     ‘  yes  ’     and  threw  an  arm  around  her  friend’s  shoulders .     “  you  want  it ,  you  got  it .  i  could  kill  for  a  cheeseburger  right  now  anyway .  let’s  not  let  it  get  to  that  point  and  just  leave  already ,  alright ?  ”     walking  back  and  getting  into  the  car ,  she  put  her  seatbelt  on  and  waited  for  him  to  start  driving  to  his  choice  of  place .  lara  then  casually  tried  to  pick  a  song  and  decided  on  a  cheesy  90′s  pop  song .     “  what  classes  did  you  have  today ?  ”     a  pause ,  she  then  smirked .     “  not  that  anything  would  beat  hanging  out  with  me ,  though .  ”

          “  really ?  ”     she  mumbled ,  still  looking  over  at  her  reflection .  she  could  really  see  what  esme’s  work  had  done  to  her  face ,  bringing  out  her  features  without  being  too  much .  just  like  how  she  would  have  liked  yet  had  no  idea  to  do  her  make  up  or  hair  like  that .     “  you  did  wonders  here ,  esme .  thank  you .  ”     with  renée  almost  always  being  absent  from  her  life ,  it  was  no  wonder  why  she  had  been  leaning  on  esme  as  a  mother  figure  lately .  when  she  began  to  talk  about  her  experience ,  bella  listened  intently ,  nodding  her  head  a  bit .     “  it  does  feel  weird ,  i  feel  like  i  will  look  out  of  place  at  my  own  wedding .  ”     she  chuckled  nervously ,  fingers  running  over  the  veil .     “  yeah .  a  weird  one  at  that ,  but  yeah .  ”

          “  thanks ,  jasper ...  i  really  appreciate  that .  ”     bella  said  with  a  small  smile ,  tipping  her  head  a  little .  in  all  honesty ,  despite  not  being  the  most  talkative  person  usually ,  it  felt  nice  to  ramble  to  someone  who  she  knew  wouldn’t  judge .  at  his  question  she  raised  her  eyebrows ,  waving  a  hand  quickly .     “  oh  it’s  fine ,  we  got  it  all  handled .  ”     with  the  reassurence  she  smiled ,  walking  up  to  the  coffee  shop  ahead .     “  so ...  did  alice  make  you  pick  a  suit  already ?  ”

          “  you  know  what  comes  after  this  face .  ”     lara  said  to  eric ,  a  grin  present  on  her  face .  the  two  had  been  friends  since  they  were  little  and  she  knew  that  they  were  close  enough  that  she  didn’t  have  to  explicitly  state  what  she  wanted ,  yet  in  order  to  get  out  of  here  already  she  would  nudge  him  in  the  right  direction .     “  we  should  skip  the  courses  today  and  go  to  the  beach .  the  weather  is  actually  good ,  that’s  a  once  in  a  lifetime  happening .  ”

          “  god  --  fuck  -  shit !  ”     exclaimed  lara  as  soon  as  she  turned  around  and  saw  the  unexpected  person ,  which  clearly  scared  the  hell  out  of  the  human .  she  was  not  always  an  easily - startled  person  yet  lately  it  seemed  that  people  had  been  getting  more  sneaky  on  their  feet .  or  at  least ,  that  was  how  she  felt .  looking  at  the  woman  for  another  moment ,  lara  let  out  a  soft  sigh .     “  scared  the  little  soul  out  of  me .  ”     she  commented  lightly ,  a  breathy  chuckle  leaving  her  lips .

          “  so ,  let’s  get  this  straight .  ”     lara  began ,  arms  crossing  against  her  chest  as  she  looked  over  at  the  big  old  tree  that  she  used  to  play  around  when  she  was  a  kid .  then ,  her  gaze  fell  back  on  the  other ,  lips  forming  into  a  smirk .     “  you’re  saying  you  could  climb  that  tree  with  one  hand  and  i  can’t ?  ”     maybe  that  wasn’t  what  exactly  he  said  but  anyone  who  knew  lara  would  also  be  aware  of  how  competetive  she  could  easily  get .     “  well ,  i’d  love  to  see  you  go  first .  ”

          in  an  instant  lara  was  on  her  ass ,  having  slipped  and  fell  hard  without  being  able  to  use  her  hands  to  ease  her  fall  as  they  were  full  of  books  on  various  supernatural  lore .  her  items  scattered  and  and  back  hurting ,  the  human  snickered  at  herself  for  a  moment .     “  well  that  was  graceful .  ”     as  she  was  ready  to  stand  back  up  she  saw  the  extended  hand  and  took  it  gratefully ,  though  let  go  as  a  reflex  soon  after  because  of  two  things .  one ,  a  few  flashes  of  ‘ images ’  ran  through  her  head  -  which  she  wasn’t  sure  if  the  other  experienced  as  well -  and  two ,  the  woman’s  skin  was  steel  cold .  just  like  someone  particular  that  had  been  in  her  orbit  lately .     “  oh  --  thank  you ...  ”     she  mumbled ,  standing  up  with  way  too  many  questions  in  her  head .

          looking  at  her  reflection  in  the  mirror ,  bella  studied  the  image  for  a  moment ,  not  really  used  to  seeing  herself  like  this .  her  soon -  to  - be  mother  in  law  was  being  really  helpful  like  alice ,  which  she  was  very  grateful  for ,  but  it  didn’t  mean  that  her  anxiousness  about  herself  would  be  erased  quite  easily .     “  do  you  really  think  that  this  works  on  me ?  ”     fingers  running  over  the  updo ,  she  tilted  her  head  to  the  side ,  observing  the  make  up  on  her  face .  despite  this  just  being  a  demo ,  she  could  see  how  well  esme  had  done  on  the  job .     “  i’m  just  --  not  used  to  all  this ,  you  know.  ”

          at  this  point  bella  should  have  known  that  it  wasn’t  the  brightest  idea  to  roam  less -  crowded  places  of  the  town  late  into  the  day ,  yet  there  was  no  denying  that  the  presence  of  cullens  made  her  feel  more  at  ease .  still ,  as  soon  as  she  saw  the  familiar  figure ,  that  sense  of  ease  was  gone .  trying  not  to  let  her  expression  shift  too  much ,  the  human  fixed  the  bag  on  her  shoulder  and  shifted  her  weight  between  her  feet ,  it  was  clear  that  she  was  trying  to  make  a  decision .  finally ,  she  opted  to  just  try  and  walk  past  as  if  he  was  invisible ,  though  the  fleeting  eye  contact  would  prove  otherwise .
