this is one of the most important posts i’m ever going to make so please take the time to read it
i saw idkhow last night, they were amazing BUT i want to talk about a different part of the experience that i think is most important. they were treated quite terribly by the people attending the show. for example, when dallon left the tour bus and came back with who i’m assuming was a manager of some sort, a GROWN MAN ambushed dallon with his phone and was yelling his name and had his phone inches away from his face. the manager had to physically push this man away from dallon. this grown man also was proud afterwards. he was smiling and laughing. it does not stop there though. the manager came out and spoke to a few of us about how the bus driver is trying to sleep and he has to sleep during the day so he wanted the line to try to be quiet because the bus had to be parked right in front of the line (which i’ll show at the end of the post for reference). about ¼ of the line actually took this seriously. another thing was people respecting the barricades in the line. barricades were placed to keep us in a singlefile line, but some people decided it did not apply to them, and they were standing right next to the tour bus, trying to look in, which really was quite gross, because they were told to stay in line for a reason. another thing i really want to bring up is that all these little things add up. these guys are putting on intense shows night after night, only resting in a bus in between these shoes. they are basically performing then traveling on loop. they aren’t always going to be happy. dallon seemed tired and withdrawn whenever he was walking outside or near the tour bus. he genuinely seemed like he wanted to be left alone. i mention this, because people clearly didn’t understand that by the way they treated him. this was all before the show, and i was the first person in line, so i saw everybting everybody did essentially, and a lot of people were polite, but those people who weren’t really ruin it for everybody else.
during the show, many people shouted kind of rude things. when superet was on, some girl yelled ‘how did you get so fucking skinny’ to matt (the singer). this could be interpreted as a nice gesture, but it clearly made him uncomfortable. it was kind of rude, because who knows why his body is how it is, or if he likes his body. we have no idea about his insecurities, and we really shouldn’t possibly shout them like that, especially in front of everybody. when idkhow came out, people honestly had no respect for when dallon asked them to do anything. multiple times throughout the show when dallon indicated he wanted silence, somebody would shout something. they didn’t take him seriously. he even said he didn’t want to go into the crowd because he wasn’t sure he could trust the crowd because they weren’t listening to him.
i also want to bring up the lack of respect for ryan. dallon said during the show probably 5 times different things to attempt to shift the focus to ryan, and nearly nobody would. people would applaud him less, and nearly nobody was recording him. that probably hurts him a lot. the appreciation is completely unbalanced, and he deserves better than that. when you see them, please really show ryan you care about him and that he matters. he isn’t stupid and definitely 100% knows that the attention is solely on dallon. he knows a lot of people just go for dallon. he doesn’t deserve that. he has feelings and he works his ass off for crowds who fail to even appreciate him. make sure he knows he’s vital to the band. he’s half of it after all, it isn’t just dallon. i am honestly quite scared that a paramore situation will happen, where ryan will leave because people don’t see idkhow as a band, they just see it as dallon. ryan is loved and needed, don’t let that slip away from you when you see them.
after the show, people lined up outside the bus. i did as well, hoping people would start to leave after a while so i could actually see them when it wasn’t a big rude mob. security had to put up a barricade because so many people were getting so close to the tour bus door. when they came out, dallon just waved, and didn’t want to talk. ryan smiled, waved, then just went inside because he didn’t seem like he wanted to talk. i found this all beyond understandable, considering they have to drive to another place in the country over night and then perform again, so they probably should get rest, not be confronted by a mob. the mob was not polite either. they were yelling and chanting, and this was after the manager came out and said again, the bus driver is trying to sleep so please be quiet, bc if he doesn’t get sleep, everybody is in danger in the bus. these people were not listening, and they proceeded to be loud. some people in the crowd were muttering quite aggressive things too, about ryan and dallon, like ‘why aren’t they just coming out already’ and 'this is really shitty of them to just stay in there while we are waiting.’ i left the mob, not thinking it’s worth the stress on them. i hope the bus just left, because many of those people did not deserve to meet them after they were being so rude. it was honestly disappointing to see a group of people treat them so poorly. it made me embarrassed to be there. please don’t be like this, just respect them. they are PEOPLE.
i’m showing breezy’s recent tweets as well, because i wouldn’t be surprised if how people were treating them at the rochester show last night provoked this. it was completely dehumanising. be better than this.
