Refreshing to say the least! Perhaps youâll be an inspiration to some of your house mates, you know, standing out from the crowd and what not. Maybe there are others whoâd like to go down the healing road and find confidence that a fellow Slytherin has recently done so too. Daisy looked curiously at Emma, not quite sure what to make of her. House Elves were never usually accustomed to a particularly kind reception, given that they were ultimately servants for Wizarding kind, and to hear that Emma spent some portion of her childhood pretending to heal her House Elves left Daisy with a growing soft spot for the girl.
Daisy leaned back with a delighted, yet surprised, smile on her face. If she had been told a year ago that Emma Vanity would be asking her to meet up together as friends, then Daisy would have surely laughed at the absurdity of it. But at this moment of time, it didnât seem as absurd as she would have thought- Emma did seem like a genuinely nice girl, and Daisy felt near confident to say that the small ugly patch they had together in the past could be safely pushed behind them and forgotten. Food is my weakness- especially if Iâm not the one cooking it. You know, that sounds like a nice idea. Here- Daisy rummaged around in her purse to pull out a quill and scribbled something down on one of the napkins. Hereâs my address. You let me know whenever youâre feeling up for trying some places out. I think maybe a pregnant lady will have a better chance to keep up with the amount of food I eat than most other people.
Emma's eyebrow arches. It's a grand thought but the most I could ever inspire in them was new ways to torture. She doesn't added who it was they favoured torturing but the flinch is enough. Then she shrugs it off and smiles openly.
Emma takes the piece of parchment with a flooding sense of relief and happiness. No one should ever have to eat alone at a restaurant and Emma has been searching for friends and better food than take away. Oh I will make certain to keep up, and I have the galleons to keep up with us too. This baby certainly has an appetite. Just forgive any strange food cravings. I will definitely send you an owl.
Itâs always nice when you come across friendly people like that. I find it happens seldom these days, but it sure does make you appreciate it more when it does happen.
Youâre a Healer? Daisy couldnât help but comment with a tone of surprise. Wow. Thatâs a pretty admirable job. Ah, come on, if you can heal up someone near death then Iâm sure cooking will be easy for you. Itâs far, far less complicated than getting someoneâs innards back inside their body.
Emma laughs at Daisy's obvious surprise. I know, a Slytherin Healer. Most of my house thought it was crazy, even. You'd think cooking would be easier but innards make far more sense since I've studied it longer. I had no interest in cooking growing up but I always pretended to patch up the family House-Elves.
Glancing away in thought for a moment as she takes another sip of her pumpkin juice then turns and looks back at Daisy with bright eyes. This might come as a bigger surprise, all things considered, but if you're ever looking for a way out of cooking another meal, there are a few restaurants I've been curious to try out. Your pick, of course. And only if you want to.
At least you wont have to worry about cooking for the baby for at least another year. They donât start eating solids until theyâre like a good few months, right? And itâs never too late I guess. Iâm sure some wacky wizards round here have their own cooking lessons.Â
I do try. But itâs so much easier, and safer, to buy packet foods or stick to cereal. Or to conveniently show up at friendâs houses around eating times.
I feel like it will take me all of a year to learn well enough to feed a kid. But I did meet a wizard one day when I attempted to shop for proper food who said he would teach  me a thing or two.
I'd stick to take away and cereal myself but the midwife I hired isn't thrilled about my idea of healthy eating. She makes a point to remind me that I'm a Healer myself so I should know better. Emma laughs and shrugs. I told her she might as well move in for all the good telling me will do.
Oh. Iâm sorry about that. Daisy looked down, a little awkwardly. Fair enough, they hadnât really been friends at Hogwarts, so Daisy wasnât likely to know the ins and outs of Emmaâs life, but she still felt a little insensitive for never noticing that Emma wasnât too happy with her house peers back in Hogwarts. Daisy had been naive enough to look at Emma and see a beautiful, self assured girl and assumed someone like her couldnât possibly have problems with things in the social spectrum.
I know how you feel. Friends get busy with their own lives, which is great for them, but it sucks to be alone without them after spending the past 7 years practically living side by side.Â
She tried to laugh as genuinely as she could, in order to keep the conversation from dipping into a pity party, but Daisy was feeling very sorry for the girl in front of her. Hogwarts could have saved a lot of my dinners if they had ever given us cooking lessons.
At one point I probably would have thought the need for cooking lessons to be unnecessary but now that I'm responsible for feeding myself, and a baby too, I could have really done with more training on the whole thing. And I really don't want to resort to taking up one of the family House-Elves. Cooking should be just as easy as Potions so I really don't know why I'm having such trouble with it.
Emma pointedly ignores talk of friends and houses because it really isn't necessary to belabour her own lack of friends. I hope your own cooking attempts have improved, at least. She smiles, genuinely this time.

Well, thank you. Not as exciting as life has apparently taken you though. She smiled. It took me a while to really accept we were all growing up, and finally got myself a flat a few months ago. Even though I enjoy independent living, I must say I do miss staying in the common rooms and having people with you 24 hours a day. It can get lonely sometimes, but really I shouldnât let that bother me so much.
A small tight smile tugs at Emma's lips.
I can see how you feel, though I was thrilled to have a place to myself when I bought my house. Much smaller than my family home but I'd rather not go back there.
My own common room wasn't as warm and friendly as yours was. Emma glares down at the tabletop for a moment, thinking of Alecto Carrow and Bellatrix Black then she looks up and smiles.
To be honest, it's nice to be away from Slytherin but it does get lonely, which is why I'm here for a bit of noise and presence. I don't get many visitors. She shrugs and grins, trying to lighten her words. They'd probably be alarmed at how often it smells of burnt food, anyway. Cooking is much worse than House-Elves make it seem.

I can imagine, but life tends to take us all by surprise, doesnât it? Part of the fun I guess. Hey let the excitement kick the terror in the ass. Having a baby is amazing- so Iâve heard- not only do you get to eat extra but people offer up their seats for you too. Plus you get a little cutie at the end of it all too.
Emma laughs lightly, pleased to be having a pleasant conversation for once.
I suppose so. I haven't experienced much of the freeing up of seats since it isn't all that obvious yet. She waves at her midsection that looks a little fuller than normally but nothing blatant. Some of my coworkers have fussed over me though, picking up shifts for me and insisting I sit every few hours. Still not certain I like the extra attention or not.
And how have you been since we all graduated?
Amycus shrugged, laughing a bit at her commentary. âYou donât look bad, Vanity. Not too pregnant. I donât think Iâd be propositioning you otherwise.â, he smirked with a tone of humor, still finding the word âpregnantâ to be one that he wasnât entirely fond of saying. It was a thought that he would have rather not ventured further into. âResearch? Anything in particular? Youâre still into the Healer stuff, then?â, he arched a brow upward, genuinely curious for the moment. He was in no rush and conversation had become a rare find in his life. He figured that he may as well enjoy it whilst he could.
His eyes running over her lips as her tongue ran across them, Amycus let out a very quiet, low growl. His eyes moved up to meet Emmaâs, lingering there with a gleam of intrigue, the heat building inside of his torso. With a small smirk tugging at the corners of his lips once more, Amycus nodded. âWhatever the lady wishes.â, he commented in an amused tone, the husky definition of his voice indicating the need that was becoming more and more prevalent. âNo need for that, Vanity. I have a room on hold anyway. Might as well get some use out of it.â, he arched a brow again and nodded. He poured himself another shot and downed it with another growl.
"Shame you canât have one of these, yourself.", he gestured to the shot glass in his hand. "You look tenseâŚâ, his eyes moved from her eyes, down her neck, fixating on the muscle of her shoulder before moving down to her collarbone. He looked back up to her eyes with a small smirk before leaning in to brush a strand of hair from her shoulder. âBut I think I can fix that myself.â, he lustfully added as his breath hit Emmaâs neck, his lips brushing across her skin before he stood, offering out a hand. âShall we?â
Emma hears his question about what sort of research she's been up to but she never gets a chance to answer when his lips touch her skin, hot breath sending a shock of arousal down her spine. The feeling of arousal is soon followed by a deep sense of wrong that is difficult to ignore. She only feels more tension build, the struggle between a base need and the higher morality of what she's gotten herself into.
"Certainly," she answers with as much ease as she can. Emma forces herself to think and act like her young self, hedonistic and unthinking in her actions. All the while she reminds herself silently that this is the safest choice she can possibly make.
Taking his hand, Emma meets his gaze and stifles thoughts of Evan long enough to give Amycus a wicked grin. "I can do with a fix."
She steps in close to him, a breath apart as she adds, "Please, do lead the way."
Daisy withheld a gasp of shock. That was certainly not what she had been expecting.
Wow⌠thatâs⌠congratulations. A baby? Thatâs incredible. Are you excited?Â
Thank you. Not exactly how I expected things to go after graduation, but sure. Excited. Terrified. At this point the two feel synonymous.
Incomprehensible cooking
I donât want your money for teaching you how to cook, thatâs ridiculous. He rolled his eyes subtly. Even if she refused to not pay him, he wouldnât accept the money. He didnât need money. He was doing just fine. Well, considering you nor your boyfriend, husband, fiancĂŠ, whichever one he is, canât cook very well, as youâve just said, that would be uh, a bit of a disaster, if you donât mind me saying. So, I am offering to help you, if youâll take it. I am not taking any money though. Youâre not paying me.
Emma raises an eyebrow at the man's decline of her money offer then shrugs. Fine. If I can save a few galleons and still have your assistance, I'm happy with that. I'll certainly take your help. Just tell me what I should be buying here so I know my way around this place when you've finished educating me. I'm Emma Vanity, by the way. You look familiar from school but I don't know who you are.
Amycus was well aware that Emma could see through his facade of subtle hints, but he didnât care. She was hiding something, though he wasnât entirely sure exactly what it was. Maybe it was just the fact that she was knocked up, but really, Amycus didnât spend all too much time thinking about it. She wanted to keep things quiet, he was sure, and he had desires of his own. When Amycus Carrow saw a window of opportunity, he did not waste time in petty details.
"Thatâs not exactly what I had in mind, but Iâm not picky.", he smirked knowingly. He could tell that she was hesitant, and maybe for good reason, but a Carrow always got what they wanted, one way or another. "You know what I want, Vanity. Letâs not tip-toe around it, yeah?", Amycus didnât care in the least that Emma was a traitor. Sex was sex, merely means to an end, and it wasnât like Emma wasnât attractive. Amycus had thought about shagging her before, back when they had been schoolmates, but there were factors that had prevented it. Now, however, he wasnât going to pass up the opportunity. "We both know how to handle a tryst, though I do enjoy a game of cat and mouseâŚâ, he nodded and raised a shot to his lips, downing it in a single go. âEither youâre in or youâre out. Itâs not as if I have any potentially incriminating information out of this chance meeting.â, he shrugged, his tone still very subtle.. âStill, thereâs no need to rushâŚâ, he gave her a slight smile, though it was laced with delicately placed venom and the undertones of flirtation.
He took another shot before continuing. âIâve been around, you know? I picked up some family business, nothing much. Biding my time trying to figure out what to do with myself, I suppose.â, he shrugged a bit again. âAnd yourself? Aside from obvious answers, of course. â, he joked.
No more tip-toeing Amycus' true aim here. Emma's heart sinks even as she feels an inexplicable heat rise inside her. Amycus and his taunting lips, sharp gaze, and obvious body build that seems to scream "made for pleasure". Yet, the vision of Evan flashes in her mind's eye, reminding her what she such a precarious hold on and what this might do to jeopardize everything.
And still, Amycus is right. He has news about her that could be used to destroy her regardless of what she decides to do now. Though she'd never concerned herself with the male Carrow's activities enough to know if he's taken the Mark or not, it stands to reason that if his twin sister has already, he has done the same. What's more, threat in Amycus' gaze, the gilded edge to his flirtation warns that he'll take what he wants even if she tries to refuse and make a break for it.
No, if she's going to get out of this safely, even marginally, she's going to have to give into her base desires and participate willingly. It can't hurt, right? Not in the bigger picture at least.
"Other than losing my figure? Well, research mostly. Potion brewing. Training," Emma answers after her moment of thought. "I work long hours and just try not to look too pregnant."
Emma finishes her glass of pumpkin juice and licks her lips as she holds Amycus' gaze and says, "As for where to get away--park isn't as comfortable as a proper bed would be." Jerking her head toward the narrow stairwell in the back of the bar, she adds, "I'll throw down a few galleons for one of the Leaky's finest rooms."
Not that the Leaky Cauldron's lodgings were anywhere near quality arrangements, but in this situation, it was less concerning.

Even when you have given me reason, no, I donât believe that I have. In fact, I think Iâve given you plenty of reasons to be accommodating. Very accommodating.
Clearly, but perhaps I prefer a venue that is much less crowded than this bar. Oh no, Iâm good. Amycus pulled a bottle from the side of the bar and smirked. Thanks.
Emma is under no illusions as to what direction the conversation is leading toward. Trouble is she's well aware that she's put herself in a position where she can't easily refuse.
"Less crowded? There's a park not far from here. Having trouble thinking of anything less than that at the moment." She's playing stupid, trying to convey her hesitance. He's attractive, that she can't deny. She's plenty horny thanks to being pregnant. But she has a devotion that she doesn't want to break again. Except if she tells Carrow that, her tenuous peace will fall apart.
She only hopes he might drink enough to give her a chance to slip away without answering to his suggestion. "Drink up, Amycus. Someone might as well enjoy it for me. And if we're playing catch up, truly, then tell me what you've been up to since graduation. I'm assuming getting a job wasn't high on your list of things to do?"
Now, I wouldnât go as far as saying that my presence is âoffensiveâ. I donât think Iâve truly done anything to offend you here in our time together, Emma. Iâve been much more courteous to you than you to me, mind you. And it would be wise of you to change your tune now that I happen to know a bit of delicate informationâŚ
Am I, now? Apparently youâre not as caught up on my life as I thought you were, though. I think we both know that I am far from a failure when it comes to my sexual conquests, Vanity. Last I checked, you were pretty damn aware of that when we were in school. Regardless of what you prefer, I think I might prefer your own company as well.
Emma sighs and leans back, trying to hide her discomfort and conflicting attraction. Sorry, Amycus. Your twin makes it hard to be kind but I'll agree you have never given me reason to be hostile. And a number of reasons to be--accommodating.
Well, clearly you have my company, willing or not. Right here in this crowded bar. Would you like a drink? I might not be drinking but you're not under such restrictions.
