I wish I'd read the Earthsea books as a kid because I woulda reaaaally loved them but they're still very cute and enjoyable now too!!
As for Blood Meridian i just dont think that shit is for me at all. I found it viscerally unpleasant but not in the way i enjoy. I'm quite alright with pessimistic or even nihilistic writing but I found it totally intolerable. And I'm sure there's arguments to be made about realism blah blah blah whatever but the use of the n slur felt totally and completely whack. Too much too often. The characters have no interiority anyway so whats the excuse? Not like it was written in the 1800s. I hated it immediately but I was intent on finishing it on the merits of being a classic. I just couldn't do it. Barely made it into chapter 2. What a shitshow. Not a fan of the style either but really the slurs are what made me tap out completely. Not like anyone has to read every piece of "canon" anyways. The preface informed me that all US American literature since has been shaped by that book, well maybe that's true. Maybe that's why I don't read much of it. Anyways I've enjoyed my run of the classics so much so far there had to be a dud eventually, and this was it as far as I'm concerned.

can’t find a post about it so i’m making my own. the spokane 3 trial reached a verdict today and it was Bad. these people (jac archer, justice forral and bajun mavalwalla II) were part of a group of people arrested After the fact for attending a protest last june on charges of “conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers” (none of them injured anyone and a lot of the people there that day were there in response to a facebook post calling for help to prevent ice from kidnapping a community member. not exactly a conspiracy) this is a federal case and they’ve just announced the verdict and all three have been charged with counts of conspiracy. obviously a not great precedent is set by that verdict, though they are hoping to appeal. this is. miserable. posting this so people are aware because there has been speculation that they will use this as a test case to charge other protesters with felony conspiracy charges
The defendants could face up to six years in federal prison and/or $250,000 in fines. They are expected to appeal the verdict.
