to talk about something more interesting, it seems like a rather giant void of intentionally missing analysis that when white people from USA discuss #diversity in media, they always frame it in a way as if non white people coming to their white majority studios or publishing houses and subserviently begging them for a space is the only way to achieve this. There is never any mention of how it simply isn't a Fact of Nature that their Indigenous reservations or Black and immigrant majority cities don't tend to have have equally strong media economy and it is a result of structural racism. As if it's only natural non white people have to come to their white majority studios to ask for a place. Similar so in imperialized nations, is it simply natural that despite being among the top 10 most populous countries in the world, how often do white usamericans engage with media from Indonesia, Pakistan or Nigeria? They would have you believe these countries didn't have their economies and media sector choked by imperialism, that its only natural that to be able to tell their stories with a fraction of the dignity afforded to white USAmericans, African and Asian people simply have to leave their countries and beg them for a place as immigrants
The natural conclusion here isn't "Therefore they should stop asking for a place and fuck off to their own places" obviously. As long as marginalized people's economies are held back by structural racism and imperialism, those are the only places they can tell their stories with the most structural availability and accommodation must be made. But we must be aware of the fact that the angle which would be the most empowering, marginalized people getting to develop media sectors free from racism and imperialism, not having to beg White imperial corers for a place, is intentionally being obscured and that we must not allow this

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, suck a fellow off to completion, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

We report about something that has happened to us before, and most likely will again: we briefly confused the clouds for the Milky Way. In that very narrow time window, we were amazed at the clarity of its contours, our breath taken away. We then had to come back down to Earth.
